I'm looking for a Jarvis cardboard cut out (pref life size), for my wedding. Does anyone know where I purchase one? I've been scouring the web to no avail :( I'm based in London, UK.
You'd be luck to find one & if you do very lucky if the owner wants to part with it. I made a small one once but I'd be pretty easy & cheap to get one made. Download the image, edit & convert in photoshop attach it to an email to your local print shop, stick it to a big bit of cardboard and cut it out nicely!
hahah they once had a massive one at the O2 advertising the British Music Experience, I took a pic of myself with it, not there anymore though, good luck!
Me too Paola! That wasn't that long ago. Might be worth asking them. Or ask Channel 4 what happened to the one Jarvis threw out of the TFI Friday studio window almost killing the drummer from Metallica(?).
please tell me there is a video recording of the lars guy/cardboard jarvis incident!
and somethingchangedin2011, i am going to pass along this really good info from a fellow devoted pulp fan to you about making your own cutout:
Here is what is required:
1. High resolution photo 200 dpi at full scale or 50% of the final size. Anything less than this will be a poor quality image, fuzzy or pixelated.
2. Then take the file to a digital printing company. They can do a "direct print" on cardboard or any other substrate. Direct print is ink on substrate not a photo process. This can be light weight plastic or foamboard. (I would suggest foamboard, but more money than cardboard.) Here we have "flatbed printers" which can print up to 80 inches thus achieving Jarvis' 6'4" height, Most printers do not have that equipment.
3. The print can then be digitally cut on a Zund cutter, this will follow the desired outline of the figure.
Price about $100-150 US if they use inexpensive materials (foam or cardboard). Cardboard can be purchased at 8 feet, but it will take a little research to find a distributor.
Think this will take less time than finding an existing and they can choose the photo. The biggest problem is the high res image.
It was cutcopy (http://baritalia.activeboard.com/t47557361/pulp-collections/)
This is the highest resolution picture I have found with the cutouts, if you can make use of it. - http://www.pulppeople.com/newsletter/images/PIERlarge.jpg
I used to work in packaging and had access to lots of cardboard and wide format printers. Created one for a friend for her Pulp DJ set (Jarvis was touring Australia at the time - Dec 2009) and made another one for another friend in exchange for some Jarvis vinyl, so there are 2 floating around Sydney....lol.
The file I used was taken from the 1995 or 1996 UK Tourbooks that I scanned in at around 1600 dpi - whatever the highest setting on my scanner was at the time. I'd be happy to find the file and email or upload somewhere if anyone is interested...
I also had alot of interest in making more.....maybe one day.
