Andy and other Frenchies ready for this?

Wonder if they'll pull any surprises out of the bag like at the comeback at their last French club show in May last year.
Maybe Jarvis will check the setlists on Pulpwiki for previous Les Inrocks festival performances by Pulp.
According to the wiki they played Live On, Death II and She's A Lady at the 1991 festival. And Your Sister's Clothes in '93. Any one of those in Sheff next month will have us all squealing like piglets.

About time they've played Help The Aged...wouldn't be surprised if Jarvis gave a"On this day in 1997" when introducing it.

Or  "on this day in 1942" - he said on Sunday his mum is 70 today. My mum was 70 a couple of weeks ago, hard to think of her as old though.

Jarvis's mom got her public "Happy birthday " song, as she was in the audience . And yes. "Helped the aged" has been performed :0)

well i was gonna give the setlist but there you go... the internet 4.0 has ruined the fun of the internet.

Anyway, random thoughts :

- Pulp is much better indoor than on festival
- that was a magical gig
- Jarvis is getting old, he now has to breath inbetween songs
- he simulates coitus in front of his mother AND son
- Steve has funny hair, but he should not, that was a bit ridiculous, like Bowie in 99
- Countdown live !!!!!
- Razmatazz live !!!!!
- Little Girl live !!!!
- Candida has trouble walking :(
- There's still 18 years old listening to good music
- 2 hours gig !!! 2 encores !!!!
- Live bed show (extended, really extended)
- People chose Have you seen her lately, like a friend wasn't played
- Jarvis still cant speak too much french, but god knows he tried today, so hats off
- that was a surreal experience when you never had the occasion to see them "in their day". i almost had to slap myself to realize i wasn't dreaming.

Any questions i'll answer tomorrow.

If I dare adding anything to Andy's awesome quick report, they really seemed to enjoy playing in Paris, for le Festival des Inrockuptibles, that really "launched" them (Jarvis "We were more famous here than in the UK then"). This gave a special emotion to the show ( jig that brought me back in the days, as I attended the Olympia show in 1996)...and,such energy !!!!!

Practically a perfect set-list in terms of being realistic. A bit surprised not more We Love Life was featured considering it has consistently got more presence than Hardcore up to now in the reunion.

Candida having trouble walking, Russell using a cane (not tonight obviously)...it is sad. I mean they're 50, not 70.
Hopefully a recording surfaces.

Wow, they played Little Girl (With Blue Eyes) again! And Countdown, too! They're two songs I've always wanted to hear live. I really hope someone made a recording of this, sounds like it was an awesome gig.

Nah, none, the gig was like The Story of Pulp in Paris: from 1991 to now. Loads of storytelling inbetween songs, anecdotes, jokes and stuff. But it wasn't a farewell gig to me. More like, we're starting over and we'll see you again soon if we managed to get things right.

Hints for a future : loads of light effects, gear, instruments, an extra violinist for a couple of songs, rarities played at main gigs... Hardly a band only doing a farewell tour. In 3 words : a big show. To me the message is: hey fans, we're definitely back. Hopes : Blur, Stone Roses, Suede are all reuniting with new projects ahead. Some faster than others though. I would imagine this tour with some shamefull stops could also be to raise money to record something on their own, free of all record label ?

I would guess it's all down to health now: If Candida can handle a real tour, if Jarvis is able to jump like a monkey every night. Candida's parts were a bit reduced i thought. So even if she's not on board, there's a chance they'll carry on. Steve is probably into it, Nick has never been happier behind his kit and Mark, well, he was all Mark. Shy but on top form. Jarvis is still a kid on a christmas morning when he's on stage...

So... New Pulp material in 2013 or 2014 ? Why not...

PS: the gig was filmed and could be broadcasted

So brilliant and brings back so many happy memories of hearing that song live (requisite moan: just needs Russell's violin).

Andy, how many people were in attendance?

2000. But i think they could have filled a bigger venue

I suppose the "new" record would be on rough trade, but maybe the band would pay for the recording sessions. That's how i see it anyway. Just a publishing deal

I forgot : Party hard wasnt played, coz of the 11pm curfew.

I think Countdown should be played earlier in the set. It's an energic song and by that time, Jarvis was too tired to really show people who dont know the song (there were a lot yesterday), what it really is. I thought the guitars were also too loud and the keyboards too low compared to the recorded version. But maybe that was because of where i was in the venue.

Jarvis was really really excited yesterday, one of the best performance i've seen from him. They all seemed like they were having a good time more than doing a gig for money (we talked about that in other threads, the cruise thing). The audience was also really into it, although i suspect most were here for the hits, because Sunrise or Have you seen her lately got polite applause only and smartphones were quickly out of the pocket, if that makes sense (people get bored fast nowadays, dont they ? :D)

NOW, what i really want, what they have to do, is a new album. They have it in them. They're not getting any younger, it's now or never. Yesterday i didnt see a band that was doing a farewell tour, more like a band that's happy to be back together. And it would be interesting too, if they did sets with more obscure songs. Coz anything they play works live, i've rarely seen that in a band.

Now, Sheffield should be really special as well, so if you're going, you're in for a magical night.

Really quite impressed with the setlist for Paris. Now, if Russell does join the band in Sheffield it should really be something (need O.U. in the setlist).
