Well he is there isn't he? As the background of the picture on the screen is that of the same stadium. I wonder if there will be a Pulpy suprise? It'd certainly fit into the general theme of musical acts they've had so far.
If he was there tonight he must have felt some civic pride.
Move over Cocker, Senior, Hawley etc. We have a new hero(ine) of Sheffield. Jess Ennis...what an athlete. And such a sweetheart too going from her interviews and what others say about her.
Ha ha! I was there on Saturday and thought I heard them say "Jarvis Cocker and Liz McColgan coming up" - but I thought I'd misheard. I actually logged on here to make sure. Unfortunately, I'd left before this came on.
Her experience seems to confirm something of the fears I read about before the games - see ranty link below. They only let you buy McDonald's, but security forbid you taking in a significant amount of your own food, whatever that constitutes. I have seen a few annecdotal tales of people celebrating their minor triumphs of getting a few sarnies and a banana in successfully, but if you're going to be there for a significant part of the day, that won't see you too far. I don't know what the general experience has been in practice, may it's all negative scare-mongering. But I do feel a bit torn between really getting into the sporting side of things, which has been great and looks to have been an amazing experience for everyone watching, but not having the stomach for the airport-style security procedures and corporate control of the environs you appear to have to endure to get there. I suppose that's the price these days of anything being so truly global, that's a great and inspiring thing on the one hand, on the opening ceremony they said there were more nations participating in the Olympics than the UN. But the other side is that means it is such big business, it's the same with FIFA, Formula 1. Same with music ultimately, on the one hand you crave the recognition and love for your favourite band that you know they deserve, but on the other, that means stadiums and big business and everything that goes with that.
Aw! I missed DYRTFT too. I arrived at my seat around 9.45 so maybe they played it earlier. Thanks for the link Fran, I was struggling to find a write up myself. Wish they put it online.
