Jason - sounds bizarre. But great! Am I presuming you recorded this yourself? And yeah, love the photo on the wiki!

You could do the same trick that Paul Mills, for example, uses - he sends me the tapes (recorded delivery) and I send them back when I've recorded them, along with any expense he's incurred. And then, of course, make them available digitally.

But it's up to you - I can quite understand if you don't want your tapes travelling in the postal system!

1. Jass Theme (W.R.) (single) /     Released: 1988 /     Label: Wax Trax! Records /     Format: Vinyl (12", 45rpm) /     Catalogue number: WAX 043 / Russell is credited with violin (processed).

2. A recording exists of Russell playing guest violin with The Bergmans on a song called 'Carriers' (The Limit, Sheffield, 87 or 88).

Does anyone actually have these recordings? They'd be useful for Portfolio purposes...

Stephen, i have the recording of 'Carriers' by the bergmans but none of  the 'Jass' stuff you mention. Although i do have a demo tape by 'Jass' it does'nt include any contribution from Russell but does include a bit of percussion by Nick.

It's only a couple of quid on Discogs, may buy it.

Jason, is that track/gig available at all? It would be pretty unique to hear Russell playing with a different band (back then anyway!)

The Jass thing might be interesting, too.

And Violinthing, I thought this might be some daft obscurity - not still available! Let me know if you're getting it and if not, I'll pick it up...

I only have the one song from that show, Russell plays violin  on the opening few bars and joins in on some shouty 'ha' bits in another part of the song. There is a picture on pulpwiki, its magic. I dont think the rest of the show was recorded. You are welcome to copies of this and the 'Jass' demo. Not sure how i would get them to you, i really do not have the machines to achieve this 21st century magic trick???

I have already made copies of the Bergmans recording and Jass demo from Jason's tapes. I'm obviously most grateful to Jason for sharing them.

I'm happy to upload copies. The only reason I haven't offered previously is because I didn't think there would be much interest. It is after all obscure stuff (but interesting nevertheless).

I'm not sure anything is too obscure for this forum!

If Russell's on it, I'm interested!

I concur, there is no corner of the Pulp world too dark that we should fail to shine the torch of obsession upon it.

Not to mention the early Midnight Choir singles with Simon Hinkler and Magnus Doyle...
