Orbit is a bit of an idiot. Re-phrase that, a MASSIVE idiot. He's tweeted rubbish about Blur and more specifically Damon ever since they stopped working with him, and the new single (if you've heard it of course, I'm a bit of a Blur fan as well as Pulp) I believe sounds much better than this below, which is the William Orbit version.



To me it sounds like they just wanted a new sound, and Graham has come out since and reiterated that. I don't blame them really, the WO version is auto-tuned to buggery.

I think the band comments were taken out of proportion too, I think he was trying to say that while him and Graham still do music regularly, Alex and Dave don't at all really - which is true. While it appears I am trying to protect him somewhat, I do think that Damon is probably a bit of an idiot to work with. I don't think it's a case of 'Damon hates the whole band' though.

My dad has a very elaborate idea that it will be British music through the ages; Starting with Cliff Richards then Paul McCartney with Pipes of Peace (possibly with Ringo on drums), Rolling Stones, Bowie and they will end with a child/ new band

Not that I think anyone's really surprised what a twat he still is, but can you imagine Jarvis saying something like that about the rest of Pulp? These are the people that made him famous. Does he think anyone cares about Rocket Juice and the Cow That Jumped Over the Moon or whatever half-assed ephemera he's releasing this week? But I digress.

Fred, the Manics' last album was "their last attempt at mass communication". Hence communicating through that I suppose. I don't have a problem with them appearing on it, but I do have a problem with them appearing on it and then slagging off the 'rubbish' around the Olympigs. Just seems a bit contrary.

Well, if PulpBristol is a Blur apologist, I guess I'm a manics apologist. And yeah, I'm an american mildly obsessed with british culture, but there's a lot that falls outside my periphery. I think even they would admit its a shit show, but I guess the idea was to push Postcards through the most mainstream channels as possible, for better or for worse. Don't get me wrong, they've put out a lot of shit, but they've made (IMO) some of the greatest albums that are still really dear to me. And even if the new material doesnt always stand up (although Journal for Plague Lovers was great!) I still admire them for being the one "brit-pop"-esque band that kept going. They didnt just fade into obscurity or do the whole break-up/slag-each-other-off-then-happily-reunite-when-the-offers-became-lucrative-enough thing. Its kind why I would love to see another Pulp album, because even if it doesnt live up to the impossible standards we've probably set in our minds, it would be such a creatively daring risk and I would have so much respect for them taking it to that next level, and not just breaking up after the obligatory reunion tour was over. But we'll have to wait and see.

i've also been thinking that if pulp played the olympic opening ceremony i'd die a bit inside (yes i know/hope they are not doing it) but i'd LOVE to see him hump the monitors with billions of people watching the opening ceremony. do billions watch on tv?

what was wrong with Hey Jude - for me, that was a highlight. Beatles are by far the most iconic thing Britain has produced and the entire stadium (and beyond) singing along really showed the unity that the olympics are meant to represent. No other song could have done that and personally I thought it was heartwarming.

Did anyone else think it was ironic when the people who were carrying the olympic flag because of their attempts at keeping peace handed it over to the army? and I swear I saw a bloke in the crowd doing a Nazi salute when the German team came on.

Generally I prefer blackadder to bean but in this instance I think bean was the right call. It had to be funny in any language and it had to be quite simple. I thought it was funny. Maybe because it was unexpected but still funny. Rowan Atkinson can make a pretty basic idea really funny with the perfect expression. I was actually quite annoyed when Jarvis revealed in Mother Brother Lover that the 'bad comedian' was Rowan Atkinson.

...and that Back and Forth thing they did for the Millennium Dome was fucking embarrassing.

Also I could have sworn blur were meant to be playing in the opening ceremony - did I just imagine that?

They're playing a closing ceremony concert @ Hyde Park.

I've seen him do stuff more recently than that. Both him on stage alone, I think he was a French waiter in one and a teacher taking registration in another. Neither were hilarious.
