He said it had been a bit of a nightmare to organise because they wanted Sheffield to be, and this is the annoying bit, he rushes through saying either "one of the last things" or "the last thing" they do, and they'd had to keep delaying it due to adding more gigs. He was pretty adamant there wouldn't be an album due to group laziness
I couldn't get the link to play the clip at first on that Boo thing it went to, but clicked the iTunes button and it was fine, I sent the resulting mp3 to the 2005 account if anyone wants to listen there.

I think announcing the presale on twitter first, and for it to be totally unannounced was a 'present' of sort to the fans. They want the people who check the Pulp feeds every day to have the first chance of getting tickets, and I think that's quite a Pulp thing to do.
If they had announced the presale a few weeks in advance, you can bet your standing tickets vivagogo price that a lot more touts would have been able to put a lot of tickets onto, erm, vivagogo by now...
I thought the same thing Stephen, it was a little kiss to the fans to make sure that people who deserved them had a chance to get them first. (Though that sounds like a really wankery thing to say, 'Oh, I'm more deserving than you 'cos I'm a real fan')
thank you! i see it now. now i have to figure out what time that is over here...hmm.
and can i go ahead and say how much i hope they do "pink glove" or "she's a lady"?...or is it too early for that? ;)
The pedant in me has spotted that it says 9am GMT on the Pulp website, that's 10am BST which is what we are on currently (daylight saving, British Summer Time for those not familiar with UK tiimekeeping). So this is either i) the automated website thingy releasing general sale tickets works only in GMT or ii) they don't have my nerdy, pedantic tendencies and it just means 9am in the UK.

Well referencing a concert that happened back in '88 is a marvellous thing in my opinion. Bring it on I say and I think I can safely say that tissues 'won't' be optional!
how many people do they expect will get that reference I wonder. Still, that supports the idea that this really is a concert for the hardcore fans... I suspect we will get a very good setlist (and some tin foil clothing if we are lucky)
Looks like this is the end... @BBC6MusicNews: Pulp's Nick Banks talks to BBC Radio Sheffield about the band's hometown Christmas show http://t.co/BYti6srM Can anyone get hold of the full interview? If there is an album then Nick's a good liar
I was able to grab the 4.30 or so of everything (as opposed to the 3 mins on audioboo) if you would like me to upload it.

It's clear they were hinting to headling Tramlines next week, which would have been EPIC, but security/council drama prevented it.
Outdoor venue and 5,000 people was the most the council would accomidate for and Dev Green is probably the biggest open air in the city (if you dont count Don Valley). Since Tramlines started, people have always thrown about Pulp or the Arctic Monkeys headlining to give it some massive exposure.. Jarvis was part of their publicity photos for 2011, showing his support for the festival.
Don Valley Bowl would deffo be the best outdoor venue/site in my humble. There were a couple of free music things there in the very early '90's which were super and the Arctic Monkeys had a big marquee show there recently. That ain't gonna happen in early December though!
i'm able to pull up seated tickets again for purchase but now the part about standing tickets with the price is not there anymore :(
does this mean they're all gone?

No worries, this just means the pre-sale standing tickets are gone, which are just a small percentage of the total available tickets. It's a big venue anyhow and considering how long it took to sell out these tickets in the pre-sale, I'm convinced that if you just get up on time on Friday, you'll have tickets. I can't imagine any problems.
ahh, thank you :)
also, i will be quiet soon, i promise, but did anyone else notice that russell isn't cut out of the promo picture of the band for this show on the gigsandtours site? could that maybe mean something?

I think Nick was alluding that a summer gig was the idea, but things just got in the way (other festivals or the size of the crowds/council) and this was the best possible way to do it.
My friend was at the Magna gig and if she had been sober, probably would have froze to death, she said it was so cold in there. Ive been to a show in January at the Arena and its not terrible. Definately dress warm.
He wasn't cut out of the Royal Albert Hall's picture either, that didn't mean anything. But it would be nice if they could drag him out at least for a couple of songs, it's not like he needs to conquer his fear of flying for this one. Maybe he is phobic about trams too?

Trying to look on the bright side, maybe he meant 'in 2012'?
As I've said previously, I'd be very surprised if Russell didn't play on at least one song, even more so if it really is their last gig. Perhaps just the songs that require his violin? Or even just Common People and possibly O.U.

I had really bad sickness and flu the day of Auto, but nothing would cause me to miss it. I was sick twice on the way there. Bizarrely, being forced to bounce about with the crowd and drinking loads of water cured me and I was fine on the way home!
It just wouldn't be a sequel to The day that never happened without Russell. Surely it's just down the road for him. Anyway if Nick's interview is anything to go by it might be one of the last he'll get to play at
I missed out on the pre-sale for standing tickets. Fingers crossed for Friday. My huband has decided he's had enough Pulp live so my 15 yr old son is going to come with me as he was very miffed we didn't take him to Wireless or Brixton. He really likes Pulp unlike my 11 yer old daughter who hates them and groans every time I play them in the car. Usually it would be impossible for me to get away at this time of the academic year (especially to travel all the way from Cornwall) but I will be on sabbatical and will have more flexibility. Hope there's a meet up. It would be good to catch up with some of you again.

i bought my tickets in the presale - but I only bought 2 tickets as it was all I could afford. All of my friends want to buy tickets tomorrow as they are "not so clever Pulp fans" & I wondered if any of them are unlucky, can anyone with spares help us out? - Thanks!
After some thought I decided I'm gonna make the trip from Greece as I wouldn't wanna miss this. So I 'll try my luck for standing tomorrow, too. I was just wondering if everything goes according to plan how do I collect them? Does anyone know if they post tickets outside the UK? Cheers

The Sheffield Arena doesn't post tickets outside of the UK, so that means you'll have to collect them at the box office. Which is right at the arena itself, so no worries. The only issue that could happen is that the box office opens at a late hour, but that's only a problem if you say want to be at the front. And even then, it's not impossible.
Great! Only saw this late as im on holidays. Muchas gracias to Paola for sorting out a ticket for me. Havent heard Nicks interview yet but this does seem to have a note of finality to it all. New material was, despite the rumours and hopeful chatter, a long-shot at best.
I liked the nod to the Day that Never Happened - only beaten by the "Serbski Yes!" tweet last year for obscure references about themselves. I reckon Jarvis will either show pics from that gig, (the fascinating ones uploaded on acrylicafternoons the other month) and talk about it a la his lecture/power-point schtick or he will dig-out the old footage of the gig from his loft and we will finally get to see it.
Also, its about 10 years, to the month I think, since they issued that press release stating their intentions not to re-sign with Universal, effectively announcing the split/hiatus. This gig, and the last 15 months have in a way been the lap-of-honour that they missed out on in 2002, I guess due to public apathy and maybe a bit of indifference within the band themselves. Auto was a nice idea, and their show was meant to have been great but they deserve their own headline big night in their own town (ideally they would play a Leadmill that holds five times more people) so Im chuffed that they will finally get it and that with all the goodwill and excellent reviews garnered over the last year, it should hopefully be a sell-out too.
I'm depressed now.. I almost got them. by the time I finished filling my information and refreshed the page they were gonne.. I have to ask, if anyone has any spare I 'd be more than grateful to buy them from them even at a higher price!! (of course Disco Bible and pulpqueenie have a priority, and lalahobbit too.

I just bought two tickets for block 208 row H for £66. Anyone who wants to buy them (for face value obviously) let me know. I'd prefer someone who could pay within the next month but if you can't we'll work something out.
(I should add on if there's tickets on the official website still available check there first - it'd be great if I could sell these to someone who didn't have the chance cause they were working or something)
-- Edited by Lauren on Friday 13th of July 2012 09:38:23 AM
dammit! i transferred the money in the end from my rent account (which i'll regret, don't judge me haha) and come home to find its sold out??
It was bound to happen obviously with it being the first hometown show...finally :)
but yeah, like I said if anyone has a spare pair of standing I'm still very interested obviously and am at work later so am really worried they'll suddenly announce a second show. how likely's that do you reckon? a second show in general i mean not an announcement right away
-- Edited by Disco Bible on Friday 13th of July 2012 09:50:33 AM
yeah the way this one sold out so fast I really wouldn't be surprised...usually the way sadly just to hype it up a bit. "Sold Out. Extra due to popular demand etc etc"
i'd be pissed off simply because I've not got much money right now but I know I'd HAVE to try and go to both nights, after going to Brixton night 1 then hearing night 2 got Sheffield Sex City :P and The Trees!
i'd hate to go to one then find out the second night got My Lighthouse or something ;)
-- Edited by Disco Bible on Friday 13th of July 2012 10:52:42 AM
Disco Bible, while it is great and exciting to hear something like 'My Lighthouse' live, or - presumably - Back in LA or Dogs Are Everywhere, it really is more a case of "Wow, I can't believe they're playing this" rather than "Wow, this is an amazing of an amazing song".
Even as a Pulp obscuro-fan, I'd much rather have a Sheffield: Sex City again or a Wickerman a la Brixton again than the, admittedly pleasant enough My Lighthouse at RAH.
haha fair enough personally My Lighthouse is one of my favourite songs so was really glad to hear they'd dug it up again :) but Back In LA is definitely more 'impressive' because of the obscurity rather than the song itself I have to agree.....!
-- Edited by Disco Bible on Friday 13th of July 2012 11:33:50 AM
Well, having just returned from my holiday I've been excited since my friend sent me word of this this week, however it's looking like it's all sold out, so I'm kinda upset about it today, was really hoping I wouldn't miss what could be the final Pulp gig .
-- Edited by legohairjordan on Friday 13th of July 2012 01:21:21 PM
If that is the case there's gonna be an awful lot of people who will be getting a shock that night (I'd say about 13,500 of 'em). Remember that The Day That Never Happened was kinda considered to be the last Pulp concert wasn't it? A fond farewell and something special before Jarvis left for London. Maybe it will the finale.
-- Edited by saw119 on Friday 13th of July 2012 02:17:58 PM
I'm out while they're onsale sadly, and pretty skint!! so this is very embarassing to ask (not to mention fucking risky if my girlfriend ever sees this SOMEHOW :P haha)
BUT if anyone has a spare pair of standing tickets later this morning that they don't mind being paid back for in 2 weeks (paypal?) then let me know I'd be very grateful. money's a little tight right now but this gig is a huge deal obviously!!
I know it's a big ask, especially considering how short a time I've been here, but still worth asking i guess? and worst case scenario, if I don't manage to make the money by then I'm sure there's someone else on here who'd snap them straight up?
Phew, I got standing from the arena website! I kind of don't trust it, as it seems like the sort of site that will come back to me in a couple of days and say they were "unable to process my payment" or something daft, but fingers crossed! Standing tickets are all gone now, they went quicker than I thought they would!!
I woke up early to see if they'd be any lower balcony tickets on sale and there's only three section of the upper balcony and standing left. They must have sold an awful lot in the presale.
Yeah, they must have sold LOADS in the presale. I just wish they'd thought to actually notify the Pulp mailing list instead of just facebook and twitter!
v.annoyed - I almost got standing, it did a verification thing and refreshed to seating, by the time I got it back they had gone! Maybe the standing had already gone - AT ONE MINUTE PAST!!!!
Oh well, fate and all that eh? Everything crossed for another date
Desperately looking for one or two spares (prefer standing but whatever is available) - message me if you can. My dear friend and massive Pulp fan was unable to grab a ticket..
The presale did seem to be going on all day. I got tickets at about ten to five and I know people who got them around eight. Usually they take a set amount of tickets and offer them for presale but for this one all of them except a few standing must have been on offer.
Unfortunately I was doing a very long day at work and missed pre-sale (really can't access anything at work on the internet) - I would have got spares for people on here had I got any this morning - if anyone has 1 or 2 spare, greatly appreciated but understand that peeps are lucky to have got their own!
Bad luck for those that have missed out, no doubt some greedy frigging touts snatched a load up. Thank God Pulp tried to give their fans a good chance earlier in the week,
What a farce that was. I had standing tickets in mt basket and they disappeared. Logged back in just now onto Motorpoint and managed to get 2 tickets in block 111. Would love to swap them for standing...

Phew, I thought I had missed out. When the presale went on sale I was in sensible mode in that I really can't afford this right now, but this morning it was more of a... ah come on it's Pulp, fuck sensible.
Sadly they all seemed to sell out so quick I thought I had missed out, but I kept trying that Sheffield box office site and a pair of standing came available, grabbed them as quick as possible. My guess is someone timed out on their order as the site was very slow, so someone missed out at my expense, really sorry if it was one of you guys.
someone help! I just added two much better tickets to my basket but it also added four worse tickets - i don't know how to remove the worse ones without removing the good ones too! This is the sheffield box office website.
i tried to go back and add on extras after putting one in my basket and it said there were no more standing :( i tried.
i do know that they seem to release more tickets for things closer to the event dates, though. that happened for radiohead back in march here and also for pulp at radio city. i was only able to get one ticket during the presale for the second radio city show but was able to get two that were way better seats a week before the show.
Very disappointed. Tickets for block 103 were added to my basket which are way better than what I have but it also added four other tickets. Since it won't let you remove individual tickets just whole performances I didn't get them. *sigh*
If they announced a second show, I'd be well pissed off now... But I think that's what is going to happen innit?! I hope anyone who works for or is associated with viagogo or the like, dies a horrible, slow & painful death.
The news about the show was all over the local media in Sheffield this morning. It was on Look North and Radio Sheffield and they were pumping it big, even news articles in the local papers. If they add another date after 8th Dec I will be pretty pissed off. I'm keeping my on any presale announcements.
sorry to all who didn't get a ticket - I should have bought a few but didn't think. what I will say is that quite a few people were selling tickets at face value for RAH closer to the night (that's how I got mine the night before) so don't give up hope. December is ages away and Im sure lots of people will discover they can't come

Just realised I have no idea how much postage would be... but if someone bought them before i sent them out I could possibly change the shipping address to their address and have the box office post the tickets directly to them.

It seems odd that the media was, erm, 'pumping this' gig when it had effectively already sold out. Queer stuff!
Well, they don't really know do they. They were already several days behind by the time they announced it, heck even 6music were more than a day late when they announced presale tickets were available!
On the subject of an extra show, there is a concert on at the Arena the day after the Pulp concert so if they do announce another date I'm hoping it'll be for the day before, if at all.
I got 2 standing tickets anyway - my 6 mates are in the shittest seats you could possibly imagine! At least I'll be able to hear the band rather than listen to them talking! Every cloud has a silver lining.
Same here. A small gig at the Leadmill under an assumed name? It's a nice thought but I doubt it will happen. The Arena Holds about 14,000 so they're trying to get as many people in as possible but a show at the 700 capacity Leadmill would be brilliant.
It would be impossible but it's a nice thought. It's probably the only '80's venue/nightclub left that they've previously played (if you don't count Octagon and Library Theatre etc and I don't).
I'm just astounded that this show sold out so fast. It's an arena gig- hardly Brixton! Nice to know that the people of Sheffield still hold Pulp so dearly. Another date would be nice, as long as I managed to get a ticket...
There were still a small number of standing and seated tickets left at around 10am at Record Collector in Broomhill in Sheffield today. Was on my way to try the arena having given up on the internet and phone when this was mentioned in passing on Radio Sheffield so I headed there instead and got 4 standing tickets!
There was no queue as they said nobody really knew they had any there.
Maybe try them if you are local or call them if you are not in Sheffield? Not sure if they sell over the phone but worth a try? Seats still available now (1.40pm) as I just called them! Hope this helps someone?

I remember an interview once with Sharleen from Texas from the day when, I think, they were supporting Madonna. She said her mobile was going mental with people she'd not heard from in years all trying to blag tickets. I'm sure a homecoming Pulp gig is much the same for Pulp...

(I was kidding of course) I think this will be the finale to be honest

Never got a ticket. Guess its touts in december for me.
Same for me. Well the coming months (not the first few weeks) I'll check online and I'm pretty sure I'll find a good deal for perhaps a few quid above face value. And if somehow in 5 months I don't find it, there will be loads of touts at the venue trying to get rid of their ticket.
the worst part is just seeing a page full of overpriced tickets on eBay straight away this morning. it's just a fact of life nowadays obviously, but when the official sites are sold out nothing rubs it in more than a bunch of people selling stacks of tickets they bought simply to make money off desperate fans like 2 minutes later?!
I laughed when I saw one auction that had the option to make an offer instead of the buy it now price...with a list of rejected offers. some people had clearly tried to tug at their heartstrings and offer face value or something hoping they'd suddenly have a change of heart :P
I'm wondering whether there will be any warm up gigs. I mean, it'll be months since they last played a venue gig and inbetween only a handful of festival sets. And considering this is a big gig, I have a hunch there will be one. But the question is when, and how. (as in, with a sale for the fans or who shows up first gets in, etc.). It'd be nice to know before I book my flights, but yeah.
