Just got my ticket. Standing one and all! First time I've stood at a Pulp gig (indoors)! First time in Sheffield! Now have to find a way to get up there, where to stay, book time off work etc.

about to go to bed at 2:30a (L.A. time), somehow missed the tweet at 1a, but I've bought tickets even though I have no idea if I will be able to go... For some reason I feel really sad, like this might be the end (again)...
How come that was so easy? What happened to the ticket mad scrabble that often ends in disaster?
Well done Anet. That's what I thought, when the day finally comes it will sell out faster than you can say "Stone Roses" at some pre-announced, totally inconvenient time of day when you're meant to be at work or whatever.

Starts at 6.30 so there's either extra support or hopefully a really log set! The tissue comment could just be referring to the long-awaited homecoming, but it is also a little ominous when you consider the last time they bowed out was Auto in December...
Exactly Fran. I think I must be dreaming this one. On the bus, get an email from gigs and tours, start panicking cos I'm not home at 9am weds (usual presale day), or Friday (proper sale day), and even if I am, and all ready to buy at 9am on the dot, it says sold out by the time I've clicked 'buy' after 2 mins. I'm going to wake up soon and be bitterly disappointed that in my dream I just walked in through my door, and bought a Pulp ticket before the kettle boiled.
How did everyone find out btw? I found out through here, but other than Twitter, was it announced elsewhere?
I found out from Twitter first, I have a feed from there in my Google account. Then I came on here to see if the news had got onto here, which it had by then.

Oh wow! that is so cool, we are all going to have a blast, has anyone got a spare ticket for Eamonn? I can't find him (hehehe he must be at work) but I sorted out transport and hotel already. YES YES YES and plenty of time to save money etc.
The news doesn't seem to be generally "out there" yet, this is the only article I've seen come up, don't actually know anything about this site. NME haven't caught on yet.
Hmm, my confirmation says 7.30 but I could have sworn the order page said 6.30. Reckon Hawley and Senior will be there? So chuffed about this, my wife is finally going to get to see them after missing Glasto due to being pregnant'
Ive got tickets :) cant beleive i actually got them!! i only just saw it annouced, and i actually had enough in the bank to get them! really cheered me up after the worst few weeks.
That's what I was wondering. Hawley will almost definitely be there but Russell? Presumably he will make the effort to come at watch it even if he is not playing
i know what I will be doing at work tomorrow - looking at Qantas flights + how cold is it in England in December? Is it too cold for me? Where is Sheffield Arena? Its not that O2 Arena on that main drag in Sheffield is it? Sort of over the road from the Novatel or down from it.....oh my.....and I was just going to go to New Zealand this year....lol.
I found out on Facebook this evening....is it up on Acrylic Afternoons? Is this the big send off - it will be almost 2 years to the day since they announced they were coming back? I dont want them to turn out like The Pixies, wandering around the world playing Doolittle for 8 years.
I would genuinely be forever grateful if someone bought me a standing ticket, I wouldn't be able to give you the money back until September but I would be eternally grateful, and would pay a little extra if you wished.

We took some Australian relatives around Bristol in December and their eyes were popping out at all the girlies in short skirts and t-shirts wandering around in the frost while they were huddled in their winter coats shivering. And that's the mild and pleasant south-west of England.
The arena is up in the Don Valley towards Meadowhall direction.

Hi raw, I can have a go if no-one else has already, I've only had 2 so far, it says you can have 6.

All done, I've messaged you the details.

Im going to buy a ticket on Thursday - if I can get there I get there - I am so bad when it comes to the cold - its winter where I am at the moment and the days are around 18 degrees which is nothing but its sooooo cold!
One last huraahh from me for the greatest band that stalked the earth - in my eyes and ears anyway, all this talk about the stone roses you'd think they were the best...pfft.
I wonder what we can expect set list surprise wise, I'm assuming they may want to play something from each album era. So presumably, My Lighthouse, Little Girl or Dogs & Countdown (or if they want to be kind Don't You Want Me Anymore?) from the Fire era. I imagine perhaps Acrylic Afternoons or His N Hers from His N Hers as a "surprise", Live Bed Show from Different Class, The Fear or Help The Aged or even Glory Days from TIH, and maybe The Birds In Your Garden from WLL.

What a nightmare the one time I do not have money damn! If someone can't go somewhere down the line (that does sound horrible actually I do want people that have tickets to go!) to give me a pM would be appreciated thanks. Gonna be mega that is for sure

Its damp, almost like how it it currently is in 'summertime' at the moment. If youre coming from a milder climit, Id recommend a water resistant jacket with a fleece lining. Gloves, hat more than likely wont be needed.
Its at the big arena, which has crap sound, but its better than the last time they played at Magna (which isnt even in Sheffield, its technically Rotherham). There are premier inns and the like around the arena or you can stay in town at any of the hotels.... The SuperTram will stop right outside the venue and will probably have extra services running after the gig lets out to get people back into central Sheffield within 10 minutes or so.
A good place to spot the band would maybe be Fagans in the West Bar area of the town as Hawley is known to drink there. Its central, about a 5 minute walk from the main strip. Theres also the Greystones in Netheredge, which is a bit further out.
Yeah CutCopy! Get your arse back to The UK - It'll be cool to have another meet up & since we're in the North this time there will be no shortage of proper pubs to do that in! Sheffield on a cold winter's night is frankly THE quintessential Pulpy place to be.
Would have nice to have been notified on the Pulp mailing list, rather than just whoever happened to be online on the morning of the announcement getting the presale link. Not great for those of us who work nights! Never mind. It's a big venue, so doubt I'll have too much problem getting hold of standing tickets on friday.
So lucky I checked facebook at work today, managed to get a standing ticket
I don't think this is the end for Pulp, just the last gig of the year. Pulp seem to like surprising everyone so anything could happen. I don't believe anything Jarvis said in that NME interview now.
I'm due to give birth end of Oct (not a problem, as long as all goes well, I have no worries I can get away for a day and an evening and a day to trek up to Sheffield and back to London)
The presale tickets for standing have gone (I still might get a ticket on Friday)
I have a few issues/dilemmas. Mainly that I do not like giant arena venues, in fact the last time I saw Pulp at one was Wembly years ago and the atmosphere was shite where I was having to sit many miles away from the stage. In fact I was kind of upset that my fave band had "made it" and that meant no more nice intimate gigs at normal venues that you could get tickets for.
BUT - A Sheffield gig does worry me as it could actually be the last gig and added bonus of Pulp at Christmas which I have been waiting for, for years again *sniff*
So, what do we think, really the last ever gig, really? I've never got over the fact I missed the last one due to funds and would hate to miss if the last.... If it is the last.....
Shouldn't really complain - have been selfishly worried they would announce an October gig and I would have to deploy sneaky tactics to be get out of the house at all that month! Now I have the chance at a time that should suit and I'm still moaning.
Well I have to say I'm not too overjoyed at the venue but I'm not gonna worry too much. Where else could they play in December, Magna was so cold it was unbelievable and I wouldn't want to experience that again especially now my joints are starting to creak.
Agreed on Magna, and I was much younger then! Arena can get chilly too though!
In regards to speculation of it being the last one... I dunno. It's a fitting way to end what they are doing now and I think it might be if they aren't going to do any new material...
Did the title 'Sheffield Arena' not give that away? ;) - I'm not too keen on arena concerts but Pulp are quite good at them. I think after all the nice venues and big outdoor shows this may actually be a change of scenery. Unless its somebody really great I'd prefer no support & a longer Pulp show, perhaps with a slightly earlier finish so I can go concentrate on getting merrily bladdered! (not until I've heard at least 2 1/2 hours of Pulp, I insist)
Wow, knew nothing of this before I checked this board earlier this evening. A few hours later I have tickets and a hotel sorted either side of a game of badminton. Thanks for this thread and posting the ticket presale link, I would not have wanted to miss this!
This is probably a stupid question, but is it easy to find one's way from Manchester airport to Sheffield by train? Thankfully flights are much cheaper for this show than they were for the Brixton dates. Not sure if I can convince anyone to make the trip out there with me though...
Wish there was a way of finding out if Mr. Senior will be joining them for this show
Very easy, one direct train! The Manchester Airport to Cleethorpes service stops at Meadowhall (close to the Arena) and Sheffield Station.

I'm not sure weed, there was a large gap in 2002 before they called it a day at Magna. Just consider, they are playing a single show in the largest venue in their hometown in the middle of winter, it has the feeling of providing a full stop of sorts.

Some standing tickets are already on ebay for £80. As to how it was announced, I found it very interesting that the announcement was made at the very moment the presale started and wasn't picked up by any of the music news/blogs. I think that interview makes it sound very much like it's the last thing they have PLANNED for the forseeable future but, as always, with Pulp that could change.

I tell you what... The massive gap in shows before this date stinks of a uk tour to me. Which wouldn't upset me if they ended up playing my home town as I'd go to both.
Looks like this is the end...
@BBC6MusicNews: Pulp's Nick Banks talks to BBC Radio Sheffield about the band's hometown Christmas show http://t.co/BYti6srM
Can anyone get hold of the full interview? If there is an album then Nick's a good liar
He said it had been a bit of a nightmare to organise because they wanted Sheffield to be, and this is the annoying bit, he rushes through saying either "one of the last things" or "the last thing" they do, and they'd had to keep delaying it due to adding more gigs. He was pretty adamant there wouldn't be an album due to group laziness
I am absolutely gutted that I can't afford this. I really prefer more notice for things, I don't care if it means more people try to buy at the same time. I need some time to get the money together. I guess I will have to pay tout prices after payday. If they announce this is the last show or something, I guess that will be even more.
