So it seems Jarvis has ruled out the possibility of the band breaking up again, but refuses to say whether new material is actually in the pipeline instead saying about how they haven't been in the studio

Good find!

"Speaking in an interview which you can read in the new issue of NME, the singer...ruled out the band breaking up once again."

I'd like to see the actual quote that references this, because that's pretty amazing news!

Yes.

Don't you remember?

"Let's all meet up in the year 3000
Won't it be strange when we're all decomposed?
Be there two o'clock
At the crem just down the road
I never knew that you'd get carried.
in/ I would be living down here in my urn,
on that damp and lonely funeral years ago.
Oh what are you doing Sunday baby.
Would you like to come and meet me maybe?
You can even bring some flowers..
And a windchime. Ooh ooh ooh ooh.
What are you doing Sunday baby?
Would you like to come and meet me maybe?
You can even bring your great great grandbaby.
Ooh ooh oh. Ooh ooh ooh ooh. Ooh ooh ooh ooh. Oh."

Great news! There's still so much they could do before releasing new material anyway. Hopefully they will keep things fresh by playing more early songs and rarities. Some live DVDs would be good too.

I take full credit/responsibility.

Anyway that article said the paper was out today (Tuesday) - doesn't it come out on Thursdays?

With regards to the whole "we're not recording yet", remember in 2010 (wasn't it?) when Jarvis was saying they wouldn't get back together?

The man lies!

We do have pictures of Jarvis in a studio with some of Candida's equipment in the background, don't we?

I don't remember seeing the amp. I had decided in my mind that it wasn't Candida's equipment but was there a Warhol amp?

Well he is working on a solo album apparently, not sure how that would interfere with Pulp. Hopefully there'll be a bit more light shed in the full interview but Jarvis is notoriously cagey about this stuff. Surely the last gig in Mexico was enough even for Candida to change her mind on not doing new stuff. Enough of the world still wants it so..y'know...think on.

The story mentions him producing someone's record too, maybe that's why he was with The Boxettes in that pic.

Something told me ever since it was on this site that this poll would lead to something... http://baritalia.activeboard.com/t48315387/which-of-these-would-you-rather-hear/

So is Jarvis producing a concept album?

I was tempted to get it today, I really was. But I didn't. So I'm relying on someone here to let us know the gist. Any takers? :)

Pulp album: "I don't know about that." solo stuff: "I'm always thinking about songs." Serafina Steer: she's a harp player and he's producing her album which is nearly finished. Is that an exclusive?

Funniest venn diagram ever. And there's some stiff competition out there. Did anyone get the feeling it was made up of different snippets of conversation from different times?

I really didn't understand it either. He definitely says 'no more shows in uk (could be lying?) cos they did it last year and there is that cryptic comment about stopping at the end of the year but he also mentions how they won't take a 10 year sabbatical like they did in 2002 again but that it 'can't go on forever'. In the actual interview he never says that the band 'will never split up' like in the online piece. Also, no indication of any solo material on the horizon just a vague statement about how he sometimes thinks about writing songs!

Either it's, as you say, cobbled from loads of quotes, or the secrecy of Pulp's reunion has overwhelmed Jarvis, turning him into an infuriating old man incapable of coming to a decision, wandering round and spouting the vaguest of possibilities he can think of

Now you mention it... I reckon it would drive me to the edge as well, keeping all these secrets! I looks like Blur are in the same mood of either not knowing or not letting on to their future plans. It kinda gets on my nerves but sure, one day it'll all make sense.

So is this the famous article someone has scanned here:

http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m6a05jkxaf1r2maf1o1_1280.jpg

Venn diagrams as well as graphs, whatever next? I shall be expecting a 3D response surface of Pulp popularity correlated against level of sexual inuendo on one axis and % content of Eastern European folk melodies on the other.

I was half tempted to buy NME this week for this but it's precisely this kind of shoddy work which is why I never ever buy it. I'm glad I stuck to my principles. Now Jarvis, go and do a proper interview we can make some fucking sense of.

He was in the week before talking about Common People in their Top 100 songs feature, do you think they maybe just tried to pin him down about Pulp's plans at the same time and this is the result?

Why on earth is the title of the article 'a new Pulp album?' when the most definitive thing he said is probably not (still don't know whether to believe it). That's as if a newspaper headline was 'England Beat Italy?' and then proceeding to say no, they lost. Stupid NME

Because they're twats and did it to sucker people into buying the rag. From that I'm assuming there is no album on the cards yet, probably never will be, but still holding out for a Sheffield gig at the end of the year, simply because I'll never forgive them otherwise. I think they're torn between continuing to play the old stuff because they've really enjoyed it and stopping because they know the critics are already slating them for doing so.

I agree that the interview is probably a conglemoration of things Jarvis said when being interviewed about Common People.

I suppose it'd be like if I had tried to turn my interview with RUssell into an article solely about Pulp. It would seem very meagre pickings and you'd be thinking "what is the purpose of this interview?"

In truth I think Jarvis should feel quite embarassed that they have published this interview. The band's media profile has been very carefully maintained since the comeback and this is a bad piece of work.

Stephen, I didn't mean to mislead you (or anyone) with the quote I lifted about Pulp. I thought it sounded pretty negative - "I don't know about that" - that's a more polite way of saying "no" isn't it?

So what the interview really says is; no plans for a new solo album and probably no more Pulp shows or album but maybe a few books commisioned by him for Faber & Faber. Not exactly anything to look forward to is there?

There's a harp album. Is it Jarvis' first production job? I suppose there was the country sounds. Maybe he's working his way up to being a proper producer.

I wouldn't be overly harsh on the NME. It's Jarvis usual evasiveness on future music plans/Pulp that's a little tiresome. I suppose if he really doesn't have a clue himself whether they'll carry on that's fine, there's little point in even making an article about it. But the NME love Jarvis and generally tend to have regular interviews with him when they get a chance.

The one good thing from that piece is that is he's still writing stuff and songs still come to him. Maybe convincing the rest of the band to do new stuff, (Mark and Candida in particular I'm guessing), is something he can't be mithered with and he'll just put out another solo album/with another band when he feels like it.

Wise words Eamon. I'll be as happy with a third solo album as a new Pulp one. Although I know not everyone feels that way. It's not so long ago he said he was too happy to write music.

I think Jarvis likes to be deliberately ambiguous and misleading to tease us lot.

The amount of media interest suggests that they are far from gone, I think they are trying to stir up some publicity, but we'll have to wait to see what, and when.

My gut instinct... they are currently on break and will return with a surprise album in 2013, and have already agreed to headline Glastonbury.

Sadly, I think it's clear from what Russell said to Stephen that his involvement has ended. Maybe if they take another 10 year hiatus.

Also since when was Glastonbury 2013 confirmed?
