It's in Catalan. In most countries, they don't say "Common", they say Ordinary or Normal. Some English idioms have no foreign counterparts and vice-versa.

And speaking of Spain and Common People, one of the guys who made a press write-up for the book's Spanish ed. read a recent Guardian article where it claimed Pulp's Common People got it's "inspiration" from Mecano's song "The Lovers" or Los Amantes. I've heard of that before but I wasn't aware of the striking similarities. I told him to clarify that with Jarvis if ever he promotes that book in Madrid.
