And yes, I'm aware that I have been a bit completist here :)

Hmmm, I don't think that Pulp have been particularly well served by any or their producers in the long run. I look at that list and I think none of them. Some of them haven't done enough to warrant a positive view. I really love the work on My Body May Die. Chris Thomas was probably the most consistant producer but wouldn't want to hear him working with them again. Ed Buller all but ruined HnH (the remaster sounds better though, don't know why bit it does to me). So in answer to your question..I don't know. Is none of them a vald answer?

I actually concur with you on most of that, Saw. I think Scott Walker did wonderful work with WLL though, and likewise Ed Buller's remix of Simon Hinkler's O.U. is magical in comparison. When stripped away from his production it really doesn't sound like that great a tune at all.

I think Alan Smyth brought them an amazing sound that they wouldn't have been capable of producing themselves in a studio with most other producers. But I can't imagine he'd be the one to do wonders for their sound right now.

If Russell is still involved, however, I'd like Scott Walker to be involved. Two of the world's most awkward men. In a recording booth. For months on end. It'd make the stories of Phil Spector shooting a cigarette out of Dee Dee Ramone's mouth pale in comparison.

Jarvis & Steve should produce it really, although they seem reticent to produce their own stuff it seems.

I've said it before & I'll say it again, I'd live to hear Brian Eno work with them.

It'd be interesting to hear a good current pop producer like Mark Ronson or someone work with them too, I think.

But this thread is about other Britpop bands heading to the past for their new material. It would be nice to think Pulp would take a more exciting route, though.

Eno, but if there is a new album, they might get Leo to do it.

Leo's approach, from my experience of his production on Brett Andersons solo albums, seems to be a kind of hands off approach. Let the music be played and speak for itself. I think Pulp need a little bit more than that. I don't think the match between Leo & Pulp would be a good one.

I'll go with Steven Street because I think 'Le Roi de Fourmis' and 'You're not Blind' are both fantastic, although there's a guy named Pete Stewart who has a producer credit on "Street Lites", which is what I really wish more Pulp songs would sound like.

I like what Ed Buller did on His n' Hers, but the guy hasn't produced a decent record in 16 years.

I'd like to throw a curveball and get Russell to produce the new record for Pulp without Russell in it. Possibly interesting results...

Depends on what sound they are going for. Raw? Rob Ellis! Experimental? Blixa Bargeld!

Saw our choices are surprisingly similar:

But of course hip hop/dance producers are quite a different entity to more traditional producers - usually creating the actual music themselves.
