Jack White's new single kind of left me cold - it's full of the bluster he's good at but nothing new or as exciting as The White Stripes were til the last couple of albums. Alabama Shakes have been over-hyped as well, I reckon. Great voice, interesting look but the songs I don't find all that inspiring.
Haven't heard that many new albums of 2012 yet, just getting into Bloom by Beach House. Really great melodies and soundscapes.
Half of Lana Del Rey's debut was really good, the other half kind of cringeworthy. Her track Off To The Races and The Shins' comeback single Simple Song are my two favourite songs of the year so far. I quite like Marina and the Diamonds, must give her new one a listen too.
Oh and apparently Hawley is set for number 2 in the album charts on Sunday?!
Dexys will blow everything else out of the water with their comeback next month though. Can't wait.

I'd have bought blunderbuss on release but there were so many albums out at the same time (graham coxon, Damon Albarn, magnetic fields and more) that I ended up buying none of them.

It is in fact the only new album I've bought this year (not counting ones that have been out for years), so not sure if my opinion carries much weight, but it is a cracker.
The only other the album I've bought is a Jeff Buckley one (So Real). A spur of the ,moment act when I'd had a drink and decided to walk to my 24hr Tescos at 2am and buy some random stuff. The result was a Jeff Buckley cd for 3 quid, some fudge flavoured oastso and a half price lady razor. As you do. Was pretty impressed with the cd, but not so much the other two items.
Mines a band called Deep Sea Arcades - Outlands, A Sydney band who kind of have this 60's Soundtrack sound but in a 90s British guitar kind of way. A pretty album.
It's not an album but since we're sharing non-Pulp music I think it's worth a mention. The other day I stumbled across this - they're a little known band from Luxembourg and I think they are very good
Two albums spring to mind; Tales From The Barrel House by Seth Lakeman (I'm a closet folkie) and the ever remarkable Julian Cope's new album Psychedelic Revolution (which you can't buy in the shops, only from his website).
Poliça- Give You The Ghost. R&B inspired synth pop with two drummers! Much, much better than it sounds:
Also I've been enjoying the new Actress album, and the Sun Araw/Congos collaboration, but other than that, there isn't all that much I've enjoyed this year. Can't wait for the new Beach House album to come out though!
The best recent pop album/band I've heard in the past 12 months is probably "Help Stamp out Loneliness". Those of you who prefer HnH era Pulp might enjoy them:
Like Ian, the only albums I've bought this year are the Pulp reissues. So sad. You guys have reminded me of some albums I need to check out though. If only there were any record shops left in my neighborhood...
Gotta go with Guided By Voices, and maybe Leonard Cohen.... not listened to Air or Sigur Ros yet.... Heard a sneaky bit of some up-and-coming Low stuff and that is killer as always. Not sure whether it will be out before the years end though.
I'm enjoying Django Django's eponymous album, The Belbury Tales by Belbury Poly, Sweet Heart Sweet Light by Spiritualized (I think, weird production on that one) and the new tracks on King Creosote and Jon Hopkins' Diamond Mine Jubilee Edition
i love the new spiritualized album too ("sweet heart, sweet light")... glad someone else mentioned it here. just saw them on sunday in atlanta and they sounded amazing.
They're one of my favourite bands of all time and one of the few I've seen more than Pulp, but do you find the production a bit muddy on the new album? Not sure it works
I think it's a very strange sounding album altogether. I know people criticised Songs in A & E but (I liked it) but I think this one was a little disappointing. It seems to me that the general media reaction has been positive but methinks there's a whiff of Emperors New Clothes about it sadly.
