That's a good point. Publishing is where allot of the money to be made is now from what i've read. When Glenn Danzig settled the Misfits lawsuit w/ Jerry-Only .. he gave Jerry allot in terms of use of the name and royalties (which are split exactly how they are in blur w/ glenn getting 50% jerry 25% and the guitarist on it 15% and drummer 10%), but was sure to keep all and soley own the publishing...

via Russell;

"We had become his backing band. Previously, the music always came collectively, from creative clashes, but I think Jarvis believed his own press and suddenly he was coming in with his own tunes. I didn't think Help the Aged was worthy of following Common People, so I sabotaged it by playing blues guitar in the studio."

Also, considering the bulk of Different Class was written prior to Mark officially joing the band, I think its safe to say Russell did a lot more than simply putting 'the same guitar riff into every song,' Mr. Songwriting-Aficionado.

@beetlebum - That always drove me crazy, because its well documented Danzig pretty much wrote everything in the Misfits. He's actually touring with Doyle now (who apparently would sooner play beside Glenn than his own brother, to tell you something about Jerry Only...)

I've uploaded to the Baritalia2007 account a radio interview from 1998 when Jarvis and Mark were in Toronto. In part 3, Jarvis talks about how the band 'JAM' and then they take the best bits and work from those bits.

On this theme, I can understand why three of the songs on this page are on this page. But 'Someone Like the Moon'? Very odd...!

Had those songs been released officially, I suspect the credits would have been reconfigured to the full band + Hawley. Similarly, I seem to remember once reading about Northern Souls (ie Cocaine Socialism / Glory Days) on either the Ascap or BMI database as a Cocker/Mackey/Genn composition.

Re Nick's contribution to Babies, on the SkyArts songwriting programme Jarvis said Nick came up with the opening Dmaj7 chord which caught the ear of the band and they all went at it from there. Having said that, the initial inspiration for a song is arguably the most important part.

 I'm sure they said that Nick just picked up the guitar for a laugh and tried to play a song with the help of Jarvis. He attempted a chord but got it wrong and actually played Dmaj7 which they all thought sounded pretty good :).
