he could be wearing a Gorilla suit and still be totally f**kable. Yep I just wrote that.
I listened to the Coachella set, is it just me, or did his voice sound....not as booming....does Jarvis have a cold? Someone give him some Butter Menthols!
Old bassists could only be him, our very own Steven Havenhand, Pete Mansell or the really early lineups. I'd imagine it was Antony. He never really tends to go that far away. Played with Elastica for a time too, y'know!
it was antony genn. i have to admit i'm not at all an expert on ex-pulp members, and i didn't know him when he was introduced by jarvis. i've had to look it up now that i'm back home. apparently, he was in the band when he was just 16 years old as the bassist. anyway, i felt really out of place at coachella but i thought pulp were excellent. i loved jarvis asking: "do you accept sweeties from strangers?" and the crowd's "yes!" to which he replied, "well, you're all very foolish." i was really happy to see all the very young people who were so excited to see pulp. met some really sweet girls who (like me) were not impressed with all the roughness during the arctic monkeys set and asked: "do people mosh for pulp?" :)
it's been a weird and amazing two weeks...new york for two nights (these were planned for some time) then a last minute trip to pomona and indio (the two nights in ny were just not enough pulp). i wish so badly that i could have gone to the s.f. show but i chose to not call in to work and i regret it now.
thank you, thank you, thank you pulp for coming here. i never thought i'd ever get to see you.
