That would be great. I was hoping someone might suggest this as I am too pathetically shy to do it myself, so thanks.

Hi Mia,

I'm not really familiar with London that much, I will be travelling up from Bristol in the morning. So I could guess like a tourist, but that is likely to lead me to more pricey options. The RAH itself has various bars, and there are a couple of cafes by the Serpentine and a very nice looking cafe in the Victoria and Albert Museum, but that looks like it closes just after 5. As it will be the first weekend of the school holidays here, anywhere family oriented is likely to be heaving.

How about this? Google maps shows a pub round the corner in Queen's Gate that sounds OK, so long as you allow time for busy-ness, but I find the whole of London is heaving with people, so you can't expect to find anywhere that isn't massively busy. What time do you want to be in the Albert Hall, do you have a seat or standing ticket?

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/place?cid=3694008860182970199&hl=en&t=m&dtab=2&ie=UTF8&ll=51.504829,-.188999&spn=0.000013,0.000021&z=16&vpsrc=6

If anyone else on here actually knows anything about the area, maybe they can do better?

Quick heads up - the touts bought too many tickets. If you need a reasonably priced ticket still, check Ebay / Viagogo.

My seat ticket will be available after 6:45 as well.
I suppose there's no way to sneak into the standing area, is it?

Doubtful, Mia. Sturdy is well versed in how to do it if there is a way, though. He leaps from seated into standing, y'see.

Although I can't imagine that's too doable at RAH.

Didn't it say doors open at 6:45, so that would tally with tickets being available then, but I suppose there will be a queue to collect them?? Do some of you with standing tickets already have them? Yes you do, I remember the courier tales of woe now. So some people will potentially be getting straight in at 6.45.

I have a seated ticket, so am happy to go with whatever timescale people want for meeting.

That is my plan! Count me in for the meet up.  I went to another concert at the RAH last year, and there is a bar in some student building (I think) right next to the venue.  The problem is I can't remember the name of the place now.

Won't be able to make a meet up as I've no spare time from getting off the train, checking in the hotel and getting to the gig. Hopefully I'll see some familiar faces inside though.

I'd definately recommend a meet up though, everyone I met off here last year was lovely.

I've looked up the pubs nearest RAH on google.

http://www.allinlondon.co.uk/locator/locate.php?locate=330-3

The nearest one is this one:

http://www.allinlondon.co.uk/clubs_bars/venue-1642.php

I'd say meet here about 5-ish?

That's the same one I found below, the Queen's Arms, had some reasonable sounding reviews, a proper pub rather than some ultra touristy rip off establishment. I looked on street view and it seemed to be in quite a small back street, but still reckoned it got very busy with Albert Hall punters.

For anyone I haven't met before I'm of small build, short blonde hair, and will probably be wearing black DM boots with red roses and green leaves embroided on.

He was with an older chap, a minder I think. I ran outside, shouted "Excuse me, are you Steve?" Steve smiled and said yes! He said something I didn't quite catch (it might have been "I was ordering drinks for the band" - I definately heard the word "band"). I said that I was here with the Bar Italia forum off the internet and he said, "Oh right" and laughed. Then he said that he had to get back to the venue. I waved and said goodbye and he said goodbye and walked off. I ran back into the pub and told the others that it was really was Steve and they just stood gobsmacked.

Sorry Tricia, I would have taken a picture for you, but I couldn't grab my phone out my pocket in time. Maybe you'll have better luck in NYC.

it was great to see some old faces again, and meet some new ones too. What nice people Pulp fans are!

I managed to get into the standing area! I took my £82.50 seat, sat there for about 2 mins feeling massively disgruntled at the being so high up and cut off from the stage (at that price, whoopeedo it's a box - it's still a rip off!), and decided nothing was going to stop me from getting into the standing area. Mananged to work my my into the stalls unchallenged, but got hauled out by about 5 security when I hopped over the barrier into standing, so I went straight round to the arena doors and slipped past while wristbands were being checked in front of me. So no abseiling from balconies involved but still a result!

See you all next time! Please Pulp......

I saw you walk briefly into the standing area up a tunnel thing, trying to blag your way past the stewards, someat about bad eyesight!, about 3 feet in front of me and the woman with the bob wouldn't let you stay, went straight out again and my heart sank, I didn't see you reappear. Been worrying about that ever since. Really nice to meet everyone in the pub.

The eyesight thing was true! I am shortsighted and have no glasses. That was the first time when I got caught, cos they saw me jump over the stalls, but the second time I just entered into the arena directly unchallenged.

Nice to meet you Fran, sorry I didn't get to say goodbye - I remember you saying you were going to the toilet, and you didn't reappear!

I wasn't suggesting it wasn't true. Really glad you made it in the end.

I had a panic attack and  thought I'd lost my ticket. I had it in my hand as I came in  past the external door ticket checker, then I put it on the security man's table while he made me go through my bag and couldn't find it as I was going to my seat, so I went back to the security desk to see if I'd left it there. Security man was convinced I had put it in a side pocket, which I hadn't, I eventually found it in the heap of TCT material they had been giving out next to the security desk.

Thank you all for the meetup!

According to Murphy laws Pulp shall announce another UK concert after the end of September, when my visa expires.

Sorry I didn't make it to this. Being early in the queue seemed more important. And it was made all worthwhile by Jarvis popping by us four queueing people to have a bit of a chat.

Wasn't too impressed with Feeling Gloomy. Mis-Shapes, Disco 2000, Shatner's Common People, Razzmatazz etc. etc. You can hear these things anywhere. I see that 'Scared to Dance' played stuff from Separations etc...

Haha well done, glad to hear you made it! I was so disappointed with my seat at first, couldnt see anything! But then everyone stood up and the sound was still really good so it was ok :)

Yeah Like A Friend was good to hear but I think Bar Italia is overplayed now though. Am I the only one who thinks its one of Pulp's weakest songs? I would have been happy if they only played My Lighthouse to be honest, nothing came close!

It was one of the first songs I ever learned for guitar, so I think that also helps me to venerate it. That and a cracking '95 Bootleg of it being performed (slowed down) in Germany that I listened to incessantly as a teenager.

Ah ok that makes sense, I used to play Dogs Are Everywhere and Death Goes To The Disco on my bass when I was a teenager, it was good fun :). Don't think I've heard the slowed down version.

There's one at Dijon 28/11/95 that's not amazing quality but is the slow version and is in circulation. Another at Stockholm 6/2/96, Toronto 30/5/96 etc. Seemingly at any 95/96 gig it's the sexy, slow, creeping one. I'll upload one if you're unable to find one yourself.

Hmm, strange. I had thought that it was rarely played even in DC times, and that the performance at Blackpool Empress Ballroom was one of the few existing live recordings of it. Then they played it at the Mercurys, won and said it would never be played live on tv again or something? (until Reading '11)

wow, 123 times performing Common People is a lot (not taking rehearsals into account). The band must be so sick of it by now.

Their numbers don't quite match yours (http://www.setlist.fm/setlists/pulp-bd6bdda.html), but given that Babies is seldom not played, you can understand why certain band members began to express revulsion at this too...

That said, I think D2000 attracted more derision than Common People.

Not much dissent voiced since the reunion though. And glorious titbits like Birds, My Lighthouse, OU, SSC and Countdown will hopefully keep things fresh for a long time to come.

Ah but correct if I'm wrong but setlist fm does not have every Pulp setlist since 1994-ish whereas Pulp Wiki more or less does.

...Quite right. Now that I look, they are only surveying 135 gigs. These are drawn from throughout their career though, so I suppose its a little like chucking a quadrangle over some daisies.

Ok, I was going to ask "why don't they play Monday Morning anymore?" Clearly just not at the 3 I went to last year! I like Monday Morning and it seemed to be the ONLY song off diff class they hadn't played!

Did anyone else notice Jarvis laugh when singing Bar Italia and getting to the 'If they knock down this place....' bit?

Shotoki I'll try and upload some versions at the weekend.
Superchob my stats are taken from both Pulpwiki and the Sturdy Truth & Beauty site. Any mistakes are my own, but I believe my little spreadsheet is far more accurate than Setlist.fm!
LalaHobbit I thought the same with Pencil Skirt. It's the one song (other than His 'n' Hers obviously!) which I didn't get to see last year despite going to four gigs. Boo...
