Thanks to Mark Sturdy for circulating the picture I've used for the sleeve (the gig illustrated is, I think, three gigs prior to the gig featured on the portfolio). Thanks also to Nick Canute for taking it.
So yeah, three (four if you count this version of the 'build up') rarities here. The first of a few versions of "Didn't Feel A Thing", an unknown song, and the only 80s live recording of "I Want You" that I've come across.
This recording ain't good. Be warned. Clyde was evidently standing next to the till at the bar. Unfortunately.
The editing job seems to have been quite sloppy, too. Applause cuts off in places and you're never quite sure where you are. Sometimes songs (like 'I Want You') drop out. I'd like to have a go at fixing this problem for that song in particular, but maybe someone will beat me to it?
All that aside, I think this is one of the finest recorded 80s Pulp gigs. Full of fire and energy. They sound absolutely unstoppable on stuff like 'Nights of Suburbia' and 'Didn't Feel a Thing'.
Comments and analysis more than welcome. Actively encouraged!

Temporary sendspace only link. If someone wants to copy this to mediafire, then please do feel free!
PS Enjoy :)
PPS the original back cover art uploaded here is not correct. This gig was not recorded by Clyde, but by the very nice chap who can be heard talking at the start and has given me permission to circulate this.
As stated before...I think this is one of the finest recorded 80s Pulp gigs. Full of fire and energy. They sound absolutely unstoppable on stuff like 'Nights of Suburbia' and 'Didn't Feel a Thing'.
This is brilliant, thanks! You can tell that they really improved live by this performance. Master Of The Universe must have been awesome to see. Those new songs are interesting, just a shame you can't really make out the vocals. I think the unknown one must be "Tomorrow", which someone mentioned on another topic. Its the only word I could make out that Jarvis sings. Good to hear Nights of Surburbia again too, its absolute madness that they didn't record this
I need to bump this I feel! Maybe no-one realises it's actually here now after all the waffling!
TWO UNHEARD PULP SONGS! Come on!
Btw Ian, where did you hear "Didn't Feel a Thing"? Did they play it at the Truth & Beauty book launch?
Stephen, I am lost for words as to how much stuff you have been sharing, hence the lack of response to the new songs. It's as though its a lot to take in.
It is appreciated though! And hoping for more.
I hope we're able to figure out the 'unknown' song. There are few words that can be heard.
Shotoki - see a previous thread for a discussion about why I don't think 'Tomorrow' is that song. 'Tomorrow' used kettle drums (even live apparently!) Where do you hear the word 'Tomorrow' btw...? I've yet to hear any audible words in it, but Mark Sturdy had a few. Stuff about hair and eye colours. Blue? Green?
Dixie - indeed it was. Please see future Portfolios :) Or do you have this yourself already?
Voxpop - Feel free to let us know what you can work out. Don't bust your arse on "Didn't feel a thing" though. Another version is yet to come.
So yeah, more is coming.
Even more is potentially out there, though. Check the comments here, for example - http://www.pulpwiki.net/Pulp/Live13April1982TheLimitSheffield - and try and contact those involved if you want to help get more stuff out there!
It's surprisingly listenable considering the sound quality isn't particularly good.
I've just had a quick go at making out some words in the unknown song, but with little success. I can just about hear the hair/eyes bit, something like: And your hair's ... / And your eyes are blue(?)
hello Stephen, i haven't heard this recording as yet but it looks magic. I'm still loving the recordings of 'silence & tunnel. So for now its a massive thanks for taking the time to share all this. maybe a few other tapes will surface. thanks again, regards. Jason A.
What's struck me the most on this recording is just how heavy and aggressive the band seem. That untitled/Tomorrow track is seriously hard and Nights of Suburbia is throat shreddingly intense. A brilliant show and really, really heavy, much heavier than I've heard them before.
Jason - not a problem. This project is designed to try and make other tapes surface...
Saw - absolutely. This is why it's such a favourite of mine. As you say, so very intense. Love the mental segue from 'Build up' to 'Little Girl' too.
And still no one's commented on I Want You live. Finally!
I had a go at patching the gap in I Want You (partially from the 2nd run of chorus and partially from the 'bad Maureen' demo), but it was horrible.
Someone with the right skills should seriously consider doing a 'live Freaks' bootleg. I know which versions I'd put on it, but I'd have a great deal of difficulty in making them sound right.
It's all a little bit overwhelming to be honest Stephen. Who'd have thought that so many new tapes of 80's peformances would surface? I'm still trying to absorb and adjust and there's more to come!
