Part 1:

REMOVED (better copy in later post)

The sound quality is certainly listenable, but could be better.

Big thanks to Will for putting up the info on the 25-27/11/1997 Pulp hosting Peel programme. I used to have edited versions of this on tape and pretty much listened to them 'til they wore out. They always really tickled me. I also have to really thank this for playing the following songs...

Baby Birkin - Melo Melo
Velocette - Get Yourself Together
Cabaret Voltaire - Nag Nag Nag
ESG - The Beat
Smog - To Be Of Use
Bikini Beach - A Design For Life
Tiger - Friends
Spizz Energy - Virginia Plain (chosen by Will Walker)

All of which got me into these bands to a greater (Tiger! Baby Birkin! Velocette! Smog! Spizz Energi!) or lesser extent.

Tiger had passed me by 'til this point, and I suppose I also have Pulp to thank for allowing me to see them play live, although it would be a couple of months later before I really became a fan.

Now, the burning question...does anyone have copies of this Pulpy Peelness in any form, no matter how edited? I'd absolutely love to hear these again...

It's really strange that you should mention this, because I've been digitising my copy of Pulp hosting the John Peel show over the last couple of days. Hence the edit on the wiki.

Anyway, I'm happy to share it. The copy I have is almost complete, but the audio quality is variable. It was spread across five cassettes of different makes and types, so some parts are better than others.

I'll upload part one later.

Wow. Really looking forward to this. I'd offer to dig out my old cassettes from god knows where, but the speed on them was sometimes variable, and it was at least a third gen copy, anyway...

Part 2:

REMOVED (better copy in later post)

I hadn't listened to these recordings for years until this week. I don't know why, because they're very good indeed.

I also have edited copies of these, just the talky bits basically, but might be better sound quality. And the music can be edited in (sounds like quite a project!) Will have a listen and see.

Just downloaded these, looking forwarded to listening asap.

Feeling in a slightly surreal mood on a Friday evening, so I have adorned my collection with this rather nice painting:

http://amandaspaintblog.blogspot.com/2012/01/orange-painting.html

I hope the artist doesn't mind, I should leave her a comment later, she seems pretty keen on oranges, lives in Orange County, California.

Once again Will - your collection astounds me! I guess this show was kind of like a pre-cursor to Jarvis' own Sunday Service shows. Impecable taste then, ditto now! Cant wait to finish downloading and have a listen to these gems!

You're in for a treat, Cut Copy!

I really did used to listen to these regularly. Amazing stuff. Thanks so much Will!

Anyone on here remember 'Acrylica' who had kidnapped Candida? That's a blast from the past!

Heres one for Will, back around 1999 I think Jarvis once again took over the radio maybe around the time of the All Seeing I albums release - I remember taping them onto cassette by placing my dictorphone close to my computer speakers - In 1999 streaming radio all the way to Australia was pretty hardcore. Just wondering if any one has these? I cant really remember much more apart from thinking Jarvis had really weird music taste....

I see Eamonn did point out that Gary Crowley interview on here at the time (http://baritalia.activeboard.com/t9532374/jarvis-interview-on-bbc-london/) so I don't know why I've got no recollection of it.

I don't remember this, but looking at the old official website, this was reported at the time:

As if making records and being on stage with them at Reading and Leeds wasn't enough, Jarvis is also working on a web radio station type thing with them, which will run from the (rather fantastic) ASI site at www.theallseeingi.com. Will keep you posted on that.

So I guess you could have been streaming it directly from the All Seeing I's website?

Jarvis did guest present radio shows a few times before his own show began.  The first time I know about is the Gary Crowley Show on BBC GLR in 1995. Does anybody have a recording?

More recently, he guest presented on 6 Music on at least three occassions.  Also, in 2000, he did a two hour show with Steve Mackey on XFM, which I think is rather good.

He can always be relied upon for interesting, if sometimes usual, musical selections.

Do many of these exist still in any form? I must confess that I've never yet listened to a Sunday Session...or any of these things you've mentioned...!

Speaking of Gary Crowley, one thing I'd love to hear again, was an interview between Jarvis and Gary on his show when Jarvis' first solo album came out about five years ago (think it was Jan 2007). Mainly for the fact that they touched on the release of the then recent reissues, and they played ''The Boss'' with Jarvis providing some insight into the recording of it. Just the novelty of hearing The Boss being played on the radio was quite amusing!

Eamonn, I've never heard that interview. I didn't note any details on the wiki at the time, so I probably didn't know about it. If anyone recorded it, please share it!

Stephen, I have some recordings: the XFM one I mentioned and two 6 Music shows presented by Jarvis and Jason Buckle in 2005. If there's interest, they can be shared, but I'll wait a while, because there's already plenty to listen to.

I do keep copies of all Jarvis' Sunday Services. I generally download them from thebox.bz torrent site because it's less hassle than recording them myself. If anybody is looking to get hold of the 100+ shows he's already done, I recommend trying to sign up there.
