This is turning into a much more active 2012 for Pulp than I thought would happen. And I was worried earlier this year that Coachella would be their only U.S. shows!
if anyone has an extra ticket or comes into one that they'd be willing to sell at face value, please let me know. my friend didn't manage to get one and scalper tickets are, as always, absurd.

Yes, I got an Email saying they were about to be printed and mailed. I received them on Mon. 9th or Tue. the 10th as I recall... since I was out of town... I live in Portland, OR.
hey, thank you! i was nervous because all the sites i've looked at with second-hand tickets say the latest the tickets will arrive will be tuesday the 17th. i'm going to be flying from georgia on the 18th so that's cutting it all a bit close. at least now i know they are probably in the hand of the owner and will actually get overnighted on monday.

Could people who were there comment on whether it seems correct? And give corrections if neccessary. I'll then add it to the wiki.
'Space' - is that a mistake?
Back in L.A. - 'kinell!
EDIT: Whoops, Stephen's beaten me to it again.

that's okay ;) i'm sure the fan who said it knew that the "wasp" answer has been given before. earlier in the day we had discussed what our dream song to be played was and "death II" was his pick so he was definitely not a casual fan. back in l.a. sounded loud and punk-ish? jarvis said they hadn't played it since about 1984 and that they'd written it about 10 years before any of them had ever been to l.a.

one hand on the barrier thing, with just one person in front of me, yes :) and, well, "wasp boy" (as i've forgotten his name), was in the very front. just an amazing night that i didn't want to end. also got to meet and talk to everyone except mark (guess that is my bad karma for being too shy to go up to him when i spotted him near the lounges at radio city). they are lovely and sweet people, every one. *sigh*

Space?! No one's mentioned this yet! Is this one for real too...?
Likewise Will, I'm not 100% convinced of all of this yet. Seems odd 'setlist' mentions Space, but those in attendance mention His 'n' Hers. Seems an odd mistake to have made on Setlist's behalf if so.
it was his n' hers & not space. jarvis went out off the stage and asked a few people what they were frightened of ("the dark" and classically, "wasps", were the answers.)
Ah, said 'wasp' fan was next to you then? Presumably you were on the barrier if he came at you with the mic...?
And yeah, I think about 1984 is right for Back in LA. March '85 appears to be the final known of date for it being performed. I wonder how it is that Candida came to remember that one? Been downloading Pulp Portfolios have you, Ms. Doyle? :)
Ahh...and it's only just clicked that 'Pomona' is in fact in Los Angeles. Right. Now it makes sense!
Wonder when they got it together to learn Back In LA, which version they listened to and I wonder if Jarvis got the words off Pulpwiki?
I think that's a given - regarding getting the lyrics from the wiki. He seems to be increasingly reliant on it. He is probably equally parts fascinated, bemused and embarassed at how detailed an archive it is of his professional career.
Edit: Just seen the set-list on pulpwiki. Honest to God, over the last couple of weeks and the Brixton shows they've put on the most interesting concerts, in terms of songs, of their careers. Quite remarkable to be honest!

Back In LA actually sounded pretty good. Jarvis sang it through his megaphone and really put his shoulder into the screams at the end. He seemed pretty into it, really.
He said something like, "This was written ten years before I was anywhere near LA. It's just a series of cliches really. I apologize." Then he said something about how this was from when it was, "Only me and Candida in the band." And "Please bear with us", "It's only 2 minutes long."
When His N Hers got to the "what are you frightened of" bit, and the "wasp guy" did his response, Jarvis said something like, "Ah, you've heard this one then." It kind of spoiled it actually, because he had to go into his wasp speech instead of doing something new. I would say we shouldn't shout "wasps" and "self portraits" or any of that if they do it again, UK.
OU had a very extended intro with a lot of gonging.
Dishes sounded pitch-perfect to me. And he was doing his initials in the air and washing dishes with the mic, which was not something you see in your rock stars that much nowadays.
I really hope a bootleg turns up because he did a bit where he shouted at Mark for daring to walk towards him and then started poking his piano saying, "Now I've touched your piano, now I've done that, now I've touched your piano." I could have watched that interaction all night.

One of the encores. Might've been between OU and Bad Cover Version. He sort of chased him back into his corner. Reminded me of the outtakes from the Like A Friend video where Jarvis is running around while everyone else watches.
Forgot about this show and no one has posted a set-list ...Back In LA wasn't really played, was it?! Christ on a bike... Jarvis is some man for the word association isn't he? It seems like he'll make the band dust off any old song if there's a tenuous link to it - which is a pity Coy Mistress wasn't played when he made notes on his set-list to mention Andrew Marvell's birthday at RAH.
Seriously though, if they're open to suggestions, I'd kill to hear It's A Dirty World live - it was written and recorded by the currently active line-up and it's the best thing they wrote (except for This Is Hardcore) post-Russell. Please!

If you haven't watched the vid of My Lighthouse from Pomona re.Pulpwiki then you should and somebody said that Jarvis said it was Candida's idea to do Back In LA.
twiggy, what did you think of the show? how did it compare to s.f.?
i met someone who'd been to the warfield show and she said that the s.f. show had a much more mellow and sexual atmosphere while the pomona show was more energetic.
i am sad, though, about jarvis' comments toward the end which seemed to be saying "goodbye" to us all, and not in a "goodbye until next time" kind of way...:(
Thanks for the descriptions! I love the Mark/Jarvis stuff. A highlight of Brixton was when Mark played a chord whilst Jarvis was talking and Jarvis berated him, "You'd go fucking mental if I did that when you were speaking!"
Saw, could have done Back in LA in soundcheck, frankly. Two/three chords? Easy peasy!
My friend who went to the SF show said someone asked her what "O.U." and "My Lighthouse" were when they played them and I was like noooo you don't deserve to see those songs live! Anyway the point is people might just have dull tastes/the people who don't didn't bother filming it. Fingers crossed for more.

Oof, sadly that video is unlistenable! I saw several people near the front recording video during this song (and for most of the show actually, the person with the Flip camera was near me, damn distracting little screen), so hopefully more decent videos will turn up soon. I'm going to be the first to admit that I've never liked "Back in L.A." (I know I can't be the only one--always found it confusing), but it was a huge and wonderful surprise, sounded great and I couldn't stop giggling through the whole thing. I'm kind of a wreck today after very little sleep, many hours wasted in traffic, and all of this travel--I'm used to the travel, not much used to the screaming and dancing, so this will probably be quite ramble-y.
Frisko2000 gave a perfect description of the highlights, that exchange between Jarvis and Mark was charming. I've been impressed with Mark at these shows, by the way. Maybe since he has the whole side to himself it seemed to me that he's been stepping up his performance--at one point at this show he was doing the rock-leg-extend thing while playing guitar. Um, other random bits I can remember...Jarvis read a couple of passages from Lord Byron, who died on April 19. Jarvis briefly snapped at Nick at one point when he started a song too early, but no other outbursts (Stephen, I would hardly call the Mark-berating in London a highlight! It kind of scares me, but not in a bad way, ha). Oh, at one point someone gave Jarvis a rose and he adjusted the mic stand to hold the flower, then draped a bra (must have been a 34DD, it was huge) over it, added some greenery to make a lovely sculpture. I thought they were going to play "Underwear" (he flourished a similar bra before they played that at the SF show), but it was something else. God, that extended version of O.U. was pure bliss for me, I love hearing that song live. "His 'n Hers" was also amazing, I couldn't believe it when they started playing it (the Pulp moles heard me!! ). There was no laser intro at this show, but they still used the "We just want the right to be different" audio. I'll be curious to see if they use that at Coachella tonight, since it ate up so much of their set time last week...also, they didn't have the full stage set at either of these CA shows. They had the full set in New York, but the screens were absent from SF and Pomona, which made for an extremely dark stage. Very frustrating for taking photos.
rubyverbena, I thought it was an incredible show. I went with almost all of the friends with whom I attended the shows back in 1994/96, which was nice, and saw some old friends (but not too many; I was a little afraid of that). I do agree with your friend, though, I think the San Francisco show was better, but only if forced to choose. They were both amazing shows. The crowd seemed a bit young in L.A., which might have accounted for the difference in vibe. One of my friends felt the same way that you did about Jarvis' comments before "Something Changed"; he said something like, this day will never happen again, but it was in relation to the song. I took it as meaning the night was unique, not that they would never come back again. I can't remember what he said, but there was a comment at the San Francisco show that made it seem like they might come back someday.
I need to get some rest, sorry this post is such a mess.
Or he could have just forgot a couple of words that he learned off from the wiki or wherever else he found the lyrics. The change in Like A Friend to ''I've been here before and I will come here again'' from ''I've done this before and I will do it again'' seems to be more conscious, maybe he prefers the new line.
No, of course not! I would have been loving it as you know. But much as it's just brilliant that they played it, surely you would have to admit that in the cold light of day it's still one of the crappest songs ever written by anyone anywhere ever.

I do actually have a soft-spot for Back in LA. I enjoy its franticness and shouted vocals. It's better than some other stuff of the era - Srpski Jeb, Cousins, Silence for example.
Obviously this is all very subjective, but I do actually think it's quite a fun song.

Back In LA for me is better than the likes of Silence, Mark of the Devil and 97 Lovers. How can anyone not like Srpski Jeb !!! Its quite often on my pie pod !

I'm not sure it's better than Srpski or Cousins, but I'll grant you it does have a sort of endearing crapness to it!

Haha, I can't believe the His'n'Hers clip - updating the line to ''I'm afraid of 46 inch Plasma screens'' and then Jarvis, virtually repeating what he ad-libbed on the tv performance of the song in 1994 to the audience member saying he was afraid of wasps. Incredible!
Those His 'n' Hers live transcriptions in Jarvis' book are all taken from PulpWiki, so I actually wrote down his words for him! I'm flattered he wanted to use my version of what he said. I imagine Jarvis is familiar with the Butt Naked TV footage that the 'wasps' ad-libbing came from. But it's quite likely he's never heard the Keele University or Nantes L'Escall recordings.

He also claims he's not on Twitter but I still think that @notjarviscocker might be him
I'm amazed so many people think that account is really Jarvis'! Full credit to the person behind it, they've done an excellent job of imitating him.
There's another account @reallyjcocker which is officially marked by Twitter as being 'verified'. It's good fun, but it's obviously not really him either.
