I just looked at the RAH website in search of details of timings, i.e. can I catch the last train at 11:30 home from Paddington or do I need to stay overnight?
has Russell in the picture. Is that significant? The text doesn't agree with the picture though, so maybe just an oversight on someone's part. I think we can deduce fairly reasonably from last year that Russell is getting on pretty happily with the rest of the band now. But the 4 that were on Steve Lamacq's interview before last summer all said they had had to put whatever they were doing on hold, we know Russell has delayed his new play for example, presumably there is only so long he wants/is able to do that for. But that needn't preclude either future involvement or one-off jaunts down to London for the evening.
2. My original problem, timings. It was said here that there is often no support, but a long set by the principal band. But here in the NME it says "support acts for the gigs will be announced soon". It says the same thing on the Teenage Cancer Trust site.
Oh come on, it's quite clear that Russell isn't in the band full time anymore!! The photo means literally nothing- it's been established that he's back working on his play, playing with the band would mean much more than turning up on the night, he'd have to be part of rehersals and his presence would greatly effect the logistics of the shows.
I don't doubt that he'll turn up as a guest at some point, but all the evidence points towards him not playing the gigs this year. I'd believe what you read in the press releases over the accompanying photo.
Also, it's pretty much 100% certain that there will be support acts- the person at the RAH doesn't know what they're talking about. EVERY other Teenage Cancer Trust gig has has one or more support.
Yes, Beady Eye played a long set, but they still had a support act (Miles Kane).
Sorry, I didn't really mean to engage in groundless speculation, I was just rambling. My main interest was the far more prosaic part of what I said, trying to organise my evening and I just came across the picture in that quest. As I lot of people have pointed out Russell being photoshoppped out of many of press releases (though I think I could manage that crop in Paint!), it cought my attention and the rambling set in. Didn't mean to wind anyone up into a frenzy of excitement/anxiety, sorry if I did.

No, I'm the one who should be sorry- I shouldn't have gone off on one like that. It wasn't you, it was just the many, many threads we've had where people just guess about stuff have started winding me up. But I should just not look at them if they annoy me so much!
Also I really hope to hear some rarer songs, something from Freaks & Separations would be amazing.
I seriously doubt anything pre-Separations. Only Candida & Jarvis (if we accept Russell is not fully involved anymore) were part of that band. Personally, the Pulp I know and love started with Separations. Anything prior to that was rehearsing. If they start playing Fairground, the bar will be very busy

No worries.
I think on reflection, what really exercises me is not whether or not Russell is likely to be playing, as I agree that is pretty unlikely, but I do have a need to persuade myself they all get along happily and the only reason he's not there is because he has other things to do and/or is not inspired by repeating last summer's performance all over again. Shame he wasn't there to bask in the glory of the NME award at least, but I suppose if he's not playing, then turning up just to get the award might feel a bit weird. I know Russell came out with some fairly harsh-sounding things in an interview a few years back, but I suspect if you asked Jarvis now, he would probably agree.

A friend told me that in last week's NME, Jarvis talked about the show and said it was going to be "special". I'd love for them to play with an orchestra to be honest.

Didn't you say things go better with a little bit of razzmatazz?
And I still want to defend Freaks, my third favourite behind TIH & H'N'H ;)
ArrGee, I don't think you have to worry about Fairground without Russell to sing it! Tho' I'd go wild for it... But seriously, I'd love to hear something like Being Followed Home, Anorexic Beauty or They Suffocate At Night. (Tho' obviously unlikely without Russell again!) MOTU would be cool, I Want You sounded great at the Eden Project...etc...
Of course anything from Separations would be great, but what about Little Girl, Dogs Are Everywhere...hah. I don't mind what they play to be honest.
The choir seats are now available from http://www.royalalberthall.com/tickets/teenage-cancer-trust/pulp/default.aspx I guess it's better that nothing...
I'm really quite happy about my seat, just above stage right. Looking forward to relaxing and taking in the whole show from my comfy seat with it unobstructed view of the whole hall. And it was cheap!
Just going to convince myself that I'm hanging out 'backstage'.
I do expect this show will be a standard greatest hits set. It's a charity event, and sure to bring out some of London's chattering classes. Wouldn't be surprised if David Cameron himself makes an appearance: it's the day his NHS cuts take effect, and he'll want to be seen doing something 'for the kids'. (Not to mention he's a fan).

Has he had to transfer his allegiance since Morrissey officially forbade him to like The Smiths?

A few years ago, before he became PM, Cameron liked to say that 'Common People' his favourite song. It caused a minor kerfuffle on this board at the time. Probably contrived by his PR team, but who knows. Maybe it is his favourite song, I can't fault him for liking it.

Ah! He might have gone off it since those election time spoofs then.
