hey people, just back from the nme award thing, went to see Pulp only, was hanging around outside for a ticket and got chatting to someone who took me in, some exec in a tie hahahahah... anyway it was great to see them all so happy, I posted a pic I took on the pulp official facebook https://www.facebook.com/pulppeople they went straight onto stage to do the two songs, oh well, at least they played two, some of the bands played just the one. The were amazing, the sound was great, of course there were hardly any fans going mental, the kids from Skins and fresh meat who were next to where I was talked amongst themselves the whole performance. ANYWAY! glad I went and cannot wait 30 more days for RAH.
Jaysus, who gaves a shag about Noel and his birds?
The acceptance speech is on nme.com Paola (fair play for blagging your way in!), or anyone else who was there, what did the bloke say when introducing the award (according to the live blog it wasn't very audible)? And nice to see a bit of variation in the choice of songs. Can't believe Misshapes has gone from being the group's least favourite song to one they enjoy playing a lot.
A pisser about Russell's non-attendance, he deserved to soak in the applause. Has that fanzine interview come to light yet? Meant to be Feb I thought. Beware the ides of march.
They only performed 2 songs Babies and the huge surprise.......Mis Shapes???......and then Noel Gallagher gets to top the show. WHAT THE FUCK
Are you really surprised? Noel Gallager is both more famous and more popular than Pulp.
But him and his Angry Birds aren't. Maybe if he had his little bruvver along who can sing.
Yes they are, they completed a UK arena tour! I mean, they're shite, but at this moment in time, they're much more popular than Pulp are.
That is arguable. Angry Birds tickets were freely available at the O2 on Sunday.
As sole defender of Noel Gallagher on this board, it's his second tour and in huge arenas in less than 5 months.
Even though all the dates aren't sold out... The O2 is a 20.000 people venue after all, what indie/rock act can sell out that kinda venue nowadays, besides Arctic Monkeys or Adele and crap like that.
and he's touring sold out shows throughout all the country + europe + the US and south america. whatever people think of his solo adventure, it IS a success. Going to see him next week in a sold out show in Paris, it's gonna be huge. You hate me now, but i like it.
Why do you all hate the Gallaghers, they're genuinely nice and real people, ive met them a couple of times, and believe me, they were nicer and more accessible than a certain Pulp member...

good one, although they all look old as fuck. Weirdly, Jarvis, not so much.
I agree, although I wonder if it's because Jarvis has never really been out of the spotlight, so you don't notice the ageing as much. When you haven't seen someone's face in many years, the ageing's the first thing that hits you when you see them again.
That, or Jarvis is working out to stay in shape, the others dont. I mean he's the one who has to jump up and down on stage... the beard is also is good way to hide ageing faces.
I like Noel! Never met him, and I'm not a huge Oasis fan or anything, but I can see that Noel is v talented and comes across as a nice guy. That Liam's a bit of a strange one though.
i met noel once, in 92 (i am old) when i was following another band around. he was still working as a roadie i think. the band and noel all thought i was younger than i am and we were all going to his house for a cup of tea. i felt like a bit of a dick so i just went back to my hotel. then a couple of years later i was THERE'S THAT BLOKE when reading the NME. oh well. i was unlikely to be meg matthews anyway! nice bloke, well 20 years ago he was. fuck. i feel old.
I thought there might be at least one good group shot of the band from last night. Maybe they wanted to continue their low profile... not even a quick interview for nme.com?
Speaking of group pics from awards nights, does anyone know when and where this was taken (previous NME awards which Jarvis mentioned in his speech?):

Shh! Don't tell. I like Noel's album and some Oasis stuff but it's fashionable nowadays to hate them. Listen to this and this.
Calling Noel crap is a bit of a stretch but so does calling him Godlike Genius. I'm sure NME wanted to give it to Jarvis but they don't want to be obvious in their Jarvis worship like the Guardian so they gave it to Noel. As a consolation to Jarvis, they gave him 2nd place coolest man (I'm pretty sure he was their top choice too). But if not Jarvis, why not Damon Albarn? or Ian Brown *runs*. Oasis made two or three terrific albums and his Flying Birds work is good. He had a good year. Those are not enough to earn him the title Godlike Genius.
I understand the hate. They built a career out of being petty and arrogant, insulting everyone who's been popular. Not everyone is lucky to meet them and discover they are actually nice chaps.

I don't hate them. I like the first couple of Oasis LPs and have seen them a couple of times live where they were very impressive. Since Be Here Now, there is a sense of diminishing returns, and aside from What a Life, I don't think Noel's new album is that interesting. But then again, I wasn't overly impressed with Jarvis' solo efforts. All I was questioning was the true popularity of his new solo act/band.
I've never met the Gallaghers nor any members of Pulp, so can't really say what they are like in the flesh, but from their press, the musings of Jarvis Cocker and Nick Banks are far more interesting than the continual I am so wonderful proclamations from both of the Gallaghers. Q has a couple of pages on This Is Hardcore this month which is more insightful than anything I have read about the Gallaghers and all their work.

Would you scan those Q pages for us ? That'd be so kind .
Anyway, those interviews with the Gallaghers, well, they give what the press wants, ie scandals... Ive read probably all there is to read about them, on them, by them, and believe me, when the interviewers actually ask interesting questions, they have interesting answers to give. Stuff about recording process, their childhood, politics, influences... Noel is a real story teller, and it's always a fun read.
They may not be the educated kind, but they have a brain, really, and they use it sometimes. But i totally understand that their behaviour can put people off...
