Pulp to be honoured with NME gong

Pulp are to be rewarded for their outstanding contribution to music at the NME Awards.

The band, who reunited last year for a series of shows including a performance at Glastonbury, will play live at the show, to be staged at London's O2 Academy Brixton on February 29.

Pulp, fronted by Jarvis Cocker, racked up hits with tracks such as Disco 2000 and Common People.

They will be presented with the Teenage Cancer Trust outstanding contribution to music award at the event. Noel Gallagher is to collect the other honorary title, the godlike genius award.

NME editor Krissi Murison said: "Pulp are one of the wittiest, cleverest and most brilliant bands the UK has ever produce

Great stuff. Every Tom, Dick and Harry that reunites seems to get one of them these days and I was surprised Q, Mojo et al. didn't honour them last year. I assumed Pulp's ''no PR'' modus operandi in 2011 curtailed any of that but in fairness if anyone was going to celebrate them properly it was (for all their faults) the NME.

I wonder will they all go onstage to accept the award.

Why can't I vote for Silence? confuse Maybe we should try and get an '80's song in the Top 20.

Will there be a ''This Is Your Life'' montage on a big screen for all the scroats in attendance that don't know much about them I wonder.
Jarvis speech should be good too. And if they play three songs I reckon they will be Sorted, Babbies and Common People. If Russell isn't there they should throw-in Party Hard to mix it up a bit more.

Sorry, I meant the younger award nominees and punters largely ignorant of Pulp's story and output.

Some of them are no doubt lovely.

I'm sure they will as they will be playing.  Suspect it will be no more than three songs.

Of course, already sold out, and only circle tickets were available...

Ah well

Surprised that A Little Soul is at number 6 right now..I mean it's a great song but I wouldn't place it anywhere near the top 20 from the ones listed

I didn't realise the NME tickets were actually going on sale to the public. Bah! I might have considered it. But then again...

I enjoyed voting for the track "Joyrides".

10/10 for everything pre-Separations and 1/10 for everything afterwards is probably the best way of mucking up the results :)

Eamonn, "scroats" is a bit harsh! You don't really know who's in attendance and, after all, a few people on here might well be going for all we know.

How many songs do acts tend to play at the NME awards if they're getting this 'gong'...?

Maybe they'll play something new to symbolise that they're still relevant and not a 'heritage' act.

Birds in Your Garden is flying high at the moment. These NME online polls usually seem to show really random results, I can only assume that only about 5 people ever vote in them. The ones that get into print usually seem to have a bit more sanity about them.

I've given Countdown, Dogs and Little Girl 10/10. They deserve to move up into the top 20, I reckon. It didn't feel right to give Fairground more than 7/10 though.

It's funny cause that's my technique in every poll I vote for,but when it comes to Pulp songs I just can't bring myself to rate any of them under 7.It just doesn't feel right!

O.U. is my number one Pulp song, it'll always be my favourite.
