I'd say that, for now, they're simply taking last year's tour to the States. However, doing so reveals an appetite for more, and that being the case you can only play the same material for so long. Perhaps that'll be new songs, or perhaps they'll tour individual albums, who knows. But it will be fun finding out!
I guess that when they re-book a venue that they've already played, or appear again at a festival from last year - that's when we'll find out what's going to happen.
I think it's entirely down to the "Can we beat our phobias" line?
Other than that, I wouldn't even begin to believe it!
I do hope those who will only be seeing Pulp at Coachella do get to see Pulp though, rather than the 80% of the band who played most of the European festivals.
Andy, I wouldn't bet on that too heavily. I get the impression that, if the gig is 'right' - i.e. UK festivals, gigs etc., then Russell will be onboard. Remember that all of Pulp bar Nick and Russell live in London and Nick, being still a performing musician with several other bands, is more likely to drop his Sheffield-based plans and turn up to a private party to play.
I think private parties by YBAs and the like contributed to Russell leaving in the first place. I can see why he wouldn't be bothered to do them again.
If a private gig's for your friends, then fair enough. I wouldn't doubt that someone in Pulp knows Damien Hirst quite well and, let's be fair, there are a lot worse celebs to be playing for.
It's hardly the Heineken thing again (Russell's last gig) or the Action Man Launch Party (Russell's 'tipping point' if I remember correctly)
Just because he isn't there for shows in the U.S doesn't mean he won't be there at all! I was so sure he would be there - apparently the answer to 'can we conquer our phobias?' is no.
Again, i hope he's part of it, but isnt too complicated to have him for some of the tour and not the rest ? As a musician, it would be a pain in the arse for me to have a half member in the band.
I think he will. There's no tight schedule to keep to before hand so he can take the boat if he wants to.
True, but that would only apply to the NYC date. There's no way he could make it to Indio, California in time without flying.
That being said, neither the Mexico City nor San Fransisco websites have a advert with Russel in it. Radio City does. Not sure if that means anything or if Radio City are just using old pictures.
So he's not flying at all ? Looking at the tour dates, seems highly unlikely that he's gonna do it without taking a plane. Unless they invented time travel or holograms.
