Maybe we should all be non-nostalgic and positive and name one band we love whose peak was between 2001 and 2011 in order to get rid of this whole 'last ten years of music have been awful' schtick that's so popular these days!
Spinto band Dr Dog the Libertines BRMC Lucky Soul The Pipettes The Black Keys The White Stripes The Strokes Ed Harcourt and many more... But clearly none had the cultural impact, hence the "90s were better". They're good, some even great, but none are life changing, like Pulp or two other bands from that time. Maybe the Libertines...
Grinderman have made two remarkable albums in the last decade but could you really class them as new? I quite liked S.C.U.M. for a while. I would probably have to say The White Stripes. To be honest I find it hard to connect with new bands who are, sometimes, nearly 20 years younger than me!
MGMT's second album (I still only know the singles from the first one. Kids annoyed me so much that I wrote them off for a fair while) was the most interesting experimental-pop by a major band I've heard in years. Really hope they keep it going.

I'm selecting Art Brut.
Franz Ferdinand
and honourable mentions to
Arctic Monkeys Arcade Fire The XX The Libertines The White Stripes The Strokes The Killers
I don't think there was too much wrong with music in the early/middle of the decade. Only in the last four years or so has it gone down the dumper
Or maybe you're just getting older ArrGee! Though good choice with The XX who are mere whippersnappers.
I'm definitely getting older, my son teases me whenever anyone comes on TV these days that they are my favourite band. Currently it's JLS.
You know you're getting old when you listen to Radio 5 ahead of a music station. Only time I listen to Jarvis (or XFM) is when I'm trying to avoid football results on a Sunday afternoon.

Totally agree, I Found A Whistle is an amazing moment on a brilliant album.

Yep, I love that song so much. Those keyboards....
