I travelled part of the journey by Eurostar earlier this year to see Pulp at Toulouse and Barcelona. I can't see anything wrong here, if Jarvis gains free travel, a bit of money and a glass of champagne for this then well done Jarvis. Also great to to see him on TV again, even if it is in an advert.
I do believe we are all missing the big discussion point from this though. Would the Olympic stadium benefit from a giant talking Jarvis head?
I don't get it? Is this on TV in the UK? If so, what's the point!?! Unless you're travelling from Ashford or Ebbsfleet to London for the Olympics! I think because it's a 2012 endorsed sponsor, it can jump on the bandwagon and use the logo to flog train seats to Europe. Not being synical or anything!

Alphi, who in Pulp twisted your balls? Man, your seem to be the first one who so negative about the Pulp reunion tour.
Just for the record - I agree with Alphi :(
I think if Pulp re-unite for a tour, it will have to be with new material (plus the back catalouge too!) If not, it'll be like a Status Quo type of scenario. With more returns than Intercity!!

I can quite see why Jarvis would want to get involved in the cultural thing, which was the original reason for his connection with Eurostar, as he explains here.
We took our kids to the Musée d'Orsay a couple of years ago and they really loved it, especially when they saw the Van Gogh room they had been to in an episode of Dr Who a few months later. So OK, Eurostar mght just see it as a way to sell more tickets, but that's what they're there for, they're a train company.
Now the current as for the Olympics is somewhat more surreal, but it's hardly pushing heroin on 11 year olds. Maybe it's a case of mission creep beyond the original art and culture angle. So the PR people want to have some poncey launch do for their campaign. That falls into the category of "nice work if you can get it" for me. Why not? Or are we saying that everyone who earns above the minimum wage has sold out to the corporate dollar/pound/euro? And if you want to invoke Common People, surely the point there is precisely that it's not glamorous or desirable to be poor and miserable. So Jarv gets to amuse himself doing some little musical number for a posh party. He mentioned some beat-boxing female singers that had been with Pulp somewhere in the summer on the radio a couple of weeks ago, here we go ...
That's them from the party. So they get a nice bit of exposure too.
As to what Eurostar are on about, for those that are puzzled by the whole ad, it seems they want to expand the perception of their brand beyond their immediate termini of London, Brussels and Paris and engage with a wider European market (I think reading this marketing magazine article is making me go a bit funny now, using words like brand, oh dear, I'd better stop now).
Oh, I don't know.. on one hand: he's a grown up. let him do whatever he wants to. But on the other side.. people should take this as a bad example of what might happen when you don't pay for music.
Well I bought his last album twice so my conscience is clean. Technically I've paid for the song Further Complications 3 times... The main thing that breaks my balls about this is the title of the thread (sorry!), bit disappointing because no it's not really a new song, would I listen to it on my iPhone whilst walking to work? No, no I wouldn't.
And If anyone's shocked about the champagne and stuff, you gotta realize that Jarvis is among the elitist people now, Not saying he's elitist but in Paris he's with that kinda circle of people. His ex wife was all that.
And for those of you moaning about Jarvis hanging round with fashionistas and media wankers, he was at a school in Sheffield today, he signed my mates relative's guitar and tie and did a music workshop for the kids. That's more like it eh?
Hmm, I posted on this and it has disappeared into a black hole, said it thought I was a spammer. Maybe it was all the links I put in. A more concise version goes something like:
The original cultural angle that got Jarvis involved with Eurostar seems totally logical to me (look for Eurostar Jarvis on Youtube, there's a couple of interviews in St Pancras with loads of kids doing paintings). He's always up for promoting arts and culture and what have you. And he must spend half his life on it these days. We took our kids round the Musee d'Orsay a couple of summers ago and they loved it, even more so when they saw one of the very rooms they had been in on the Van Gogh episode of Dr Who a few months later.
While the current ad is a bit more surreal, it's quite amusing. Maybe it's all part of a bigger contract or something that came out of the original thing. As for getting paid actual money, shock, horror, everyone does that, given the chance of decent employment. If you want to invoke Common People, surely the point is precisely that it's not glamorous and desirable to be poor. And so Eurostar just want to sell more tickets, but all commerce is surely not of itself inherently evil, whatever impression you might get from the purists.
As liltman says, the posh corporate dos aren't the only world he inhabits, reminds me of a bit of Kipling's If:
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with Kings---nor lose the common touch, If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too much: .......

Ahhh, that's very interesting liltman. Remember they had a rehearsal room set up in Sheffield for months. Maybe they're back at a little bit of work? There are certainly plenty of studios here in Sheffield at the moment. Fran, I tend to agree actually. I'm all for the man pushing more cultural and artistic events, it was the audience he was doing it for that most got up my nose. Not the work, or the comission but the audience at that party. The ad is ok but fails in its purpose for me. I just don't know what it's advertising and who those two other blokes are and what they represent etc.

Thanks Deborah thats excellent. I was wondering why he wasn't making an appearance at the literary festival here in Sheffield which is running at the moment. It seems doubly confusing now he's just done a presentation at his old school, so he was in town! Will anybody be recording hsi talks at Cheltenham or Manchester? Wouldn't it be nice to have a recording of Shakespeare Rock?
