Fredthe3rd has made me feel a little better in the Sunrise thread as I thought it was just me, but I really struggle with this! What's different?

Intro always seemed that little bit slower, but I think I've just been trying to figure the difference and decided that would be it.

The version on Intro and His n Hers are the same, 4:05. The different mix only appears on the Sisters EP; it is 6 seconds shorter. It starts with the guitar and synth note behind it rather than have the 6 second guitar alone intro.

Maybe that's where I went wrong; comparing the wrong two versions. I'm sure the guy I was at school with who got me into Pulp once told me the differences and there was more to it than that...

I always compared the Intro and His n Hers ones as I assumed the Sisters EP version is the one on His n Hers. I could have sworn the His n Hers version is considered a "remix".

Hmmm, for me it's the same session recording but His N Hers is mastered differently. The His n Hers version doesn't seem to have as much base and there's a touch more reverb on Jarvis's voice.

That'd make sense, Buller maybe added it to make it fit more with the rest of the album.

The version on His n Hers is the same length as on Intro, but has perhaps been remixed to make it fit in with the atmosphere of His n Hers? The version on Sisters is definitely shorter and just to muddy the waters, from Truth and Beauty "...Island pressed for a reissue of 'Babies'. Some wrangling, later the group agreed, with the stipulation that the ORIGINAL VERSION (my emphasis), not the recent remix, be used on an EP alongside some new material..." Well, I can only find a difference WITH the Sisters version and I have now checked the Intro, pre remaster His n Hers, Sisters EP and remastered His n Hers. I thought this would be an easy one to sort out! have we heard the remixed Babies?

The world waits with baited breath. Or at least the percentage of the world without a (saturday night) life.

To be honest, I'm probably a little bit too pissed to detect the subtle nuances of such a cracking a song that is just willing me to jump around instead. I will return with my valuable critique when my senses are finally tuned again.

Ok, here we go. So officially the remix version is the one on His n Hers only. Sisters version is same as Intro just edited at the beginning. One thing I can say for sure is that there is an extra rhythm guitar part audible in the remix from about 3:16 through to the end, kind of slashing rough chords that aren't on the original. It also sounds a lot more reverby than the original which to me sounds quite dry.

It's the radio edit, minus the word "screw"!

As I suspected at the time: all I got for my money was a photo of an attractive woman on the cover...
