Am I alone in thinking that Razzmatazz is better played live - I really like it but I always expect it to be faster than it is and so whenever I hear it it feels a bit like it is dragging
I read that as you contradicting yourself. You prefer the live versions even though it sounds like it drags?
I agree about the dragging it out live, (with crowd participation handclaps at the Pulp shows I saw this summer) and I far prefer the energy of the recorded version. To which producer Phil Vinal contributed considerably (taking Ed Buller's original couple of goes at producing the song before doing it himself and remixing Razzmatazz).
I can't see any contradictions - when I listen to the record (not live), the opening part before the singing just seems a bit heavy, like it's a bit of a challenge to get to the next beat. Just the opening bars - when the singing starts then it's much more dynamic. If it drags when being played live I didn't notice, probably being too excited to actually care!
This is an impossible task. Far too many variables to consider, such as my mood at the time and what mood I would like to be in - ie lidicrously high and dancing around the house, wallowing in self-pity, or just having a bit of quiet introspection. The most I can probably say is that Different Class MIGHT be my number 1, as it has the most potential to do all three of the above.
I agree. This is too hard. This is Hardcore is probably my favourite album but I don't think it's their best. And Different Class has such a special place in my heart...but Separations is probaby my second favourite.
I think Jarvis was a lot better than Further Complications though. I don't think I can properly rank the albums without feeling like I've betrayed one of them.

No they fought for the right to be able to make their own decisions which means not participating if that is their decision! Maybe the ladies are just too frightened to make an actual choice, indecisiveness. I thought it would be difficult too but I actually found it rather fun. I followed an intuitive path and let the records chooes themselves. I found that after I'd finished my exercise in automatic writing that my subconscious mind had made the right decisions. Hallelujah.
This is turning into a male only poll... Did the Suffragettes fight for nothing?
If you think this will make me want to vote now, it's not working! I reserve the right to waffle, skirt around the issue and not commit to anything at all.
Debatable... Although I am tempted to go back to it to see why some people love it.
One trend I noticed was the amount of times TIH was second in peoples lists.
If there's demand I'll be happy to update the figures from time to time if new people submit lists.
MOTU is one of those albums that takes a long time to get into, but once you do it never gets boring. Its challenging but there's so much depth. Freaks has some of the greatest Pulp songs too (Being Followed Home) but as an album doesnt work as well for me. Fairground and Never Ending Story are pretty uncomfortable to listen to.
Believe me, I've listened to MOTU way more times than a lot of albums I do like, just because it's Pulp. It's Jarvis and FC that need the love. Big Julie and INeverSIWDeep are two of the best songs he's done, and plenty of other songs on both albums are up there too.
