They've gone about this tour quite strategically, haven't they?
Rolling out dates at different times... secret show at Glastonbury... waiting until the moment after they leave the stage at Wireless to announce more London dates... now waiting until the last Festival performance to allow cameras.
Surely (probably a lot more wishful thinking to this hypothesis than logic) the fact that it is being televised in order to raise public awareness EVEN MORE suggests that they are going to announce a tour-to get people wanting more and then buying tickets when given the possibility. Otherwise they would have done it in the beginning so more people bought festival tickets. Either that or they want a nice send off :/

Fearne Cotton and Reggie Yates introduce coverage of the main stage performance by recently re-formed Britpop stars Pulp. Having split in 2002, Jarvis Cocker and his band - including violinist Russell Senior, who had left in 1996 - reunited to play a series of gigs earlier this year, and their Reading set is rumoured to feature several of their most popular songs from throughout their career.
So from this, it could be the complete (or very nearly) set!
There is another program on BBC3 after showing The Strokes & Jane's Addiction @ Reading

Yeah I think it'll be the whole set. Sorry about the last bit of that detail by the way - "and their Reading set is rumoured to feature several of their most popular songs from throughout their career.". Erm, yes I think it probably will feature some popular songs! I tried to rewrite this but one of the subs wouldn't have it!
Good point, it'll probably be shortened then. Damm! I suppose Reading is considered more important as it was originally just there and not Leeds? And of course the North isn't considered as important as the South by the media...
Well, I'd be amazed if they didn't play some 'popular songs' as they put it. Maybe a complete trawl through the back catalouge isn't going to happen.
It would be great if it was all full of obscurities! But as Pulp told Steve Lamacq, the live shows wouldn't be a collection of B side!
Shame really, I'd love to hear Ansaphone!
Rgds
I would love to hear ansaphone too...
To cut a long story short, I have an access all areas pass for the sunday at leeds and if I am lucky enough to see or speak to any of Pulp, i am going to be cheeky and request that they play it, either that or cuckoo... as i don't know the level of access with the pass, i don't even know if i will even get a glimpse of anyone, but if the dream comes true, im going to go for it
Those two hours obviously will include changing the stage and instruments set-up for the later act but maybe there'll be a 90 mins set for the band going on second last.
would someone be able to make me a copy? and of The Story of Common People?? will provide DVDs and or postage and or other Pulp stuff on DVD...Im hyperventalating here!!!
You could try to ask for Ansaphone, but it's never been played live, so it's a long shot. But, never say never!
cheers!- ill let you know how it goes!
I know its a mahoosive long shot, and i doubt they would play it if i was lucky enough to even ask. i wonder why they never have though, its such a good song
pye - If you are lucky enough to meet any of the band, could you also try persuading them to come down and meet the crowd after Brixton :P good luck - you're right, ansaphone never got the publicity it deserved
- Jarvis mentioning someone who was born/died on this day (or something that happened).
For someone with a bad memory when it comes to dates from Pulp's past I'm surprised he gives so much time to ''commemorations'' on his radio show and now increasingl during Pulp shows.
Oh yeah, I suppose he does. The ''importance'' of talking about commemorations rather than remembering them, then is still a little bemusing.
Looking at a couple of different tv listings for tomorrow and fingers crossed it's the whole set that's televised, it does seem that way. Coverage from Leeds would have been better as it's oop north and their last UK festival date (with presumably a longer set than at Reading) but shouldn't complain. Following the coverage of Pulp on BBC3 they will only be showing bits of The Strokes headlining along with Jane's Addiction.
I was browsing this weeks NME yesterday and it was amusing seeing them try to make a ''The Strokes v Pulp'' battle out of the weekend (asking other artists who they prefer of the two, and the preview for next week's magazine a heavyweight boxing bill pastiche á la akin to what they did for the Blur v Oasis clash sixteen years ago). I've always liked The Strokes even though all their albums after the first one have been hit and miss affairs. Casablancas' solo album is really interesting. His embracing of synths and knack for writing a melody in particular.

I'm hoping that with the Reading set being on TV that this means they will completely change the set for Brixton next week!
I like the concept of your drinking game!
BTW cutcopy - I have been attempting to upload Story of CP to rapidshare but it keeps getting stuck half way. I will keep trying until it works though
Bollocks I missed all but the last 20 minutes! I'm leaving for Heathrow Airport at 5am, anyone know if theres any chance it'll be up on iplayer before then? It's a 9 hour flight so I'll sleep on the plane!
How many people did they have on that stage by the end?! Great to see Russell and Richard playing together!
It was an awesome televisual treat. Very refreshing after pouring over all those YouTube clips!
I have recorded it with intention of getting it on the PC to share but I reckon someone will beat me to that anyway as I'm working silly shifts until Thursday then I'm bound straight for London after work!
Crowd seemed pretty into it aswell. What I loved the most was during Common People, amidst the wodge of sound sending the crowd into a frenzy it was the fucking synths towering over everything. Fantastic.
''Yeah, yeah, yeah''. ''No no no''. ''Perhaps perhaps perhaps''.

It may well be on Iplayer (I can't see any reason why not as it was planned to be televised and no other UK live shows have been)
But, if not, there may be people who have recorded it, so it should surface in the not too distant future. I myself have recorded it to hard disk off the TV

At the end, there were eight on stage. 6 members of Pulp, Richard Hawley & Leo Abrahams

I'm pretty sure Jarvis mentioned somewhere he asked Richard to join them on the reunion tour but he was too busy with other work? Great that he could drop by like that. So that makes five guitarists we're up to now?
Just finished uploading Reading 2011 which I recorded off BBC3 last night. The size is approx. 450Mb, which is a lot better that 2.9Gb that it started off at!

Got a chance to watch the stuff on YouTube yesterday and it was wonderful. So good to finally see some professionally filmed footage of this tour. Really hope the band puts out a DVD. Maybe they'll film the Brixton shows!
Thanks for suggestions re. the drinking game - was mildly successful but a significant percentage of these people are already bored of me harping on about Pulp / attempting to monopolise the music, so only a few of us took part, guess they didn't want to appear to be encouraging me. If only I had made Eamonn's recommendation of "On this day..." we'd have been truly wankered, so a good call there!
Still, This Is Hardcore was astonishing, and Hawley's part was - as Fuss Free says, "magical". In fact, I'm going to watch that part again.
And thank-you very very much for the links, they're great
Watched some of the highlights on red button last nite - confirmed my suspisions at the time that it was the best gig I'd ever been to! Still, maybe tonite or tomorrow will beat it?!
