Nice timing. There's no way I can afford tickets after long weekend in London. Looks like I'll be sitting this one out.

Hmm. Rather good news. This'll make up for not going to Wireless.

I did the night they didn't play Common People.  Have taken a less than interested friend to see Pulp/Jarvis and all he did was moan on both occassions that they/he didn't play Common People.

Would be good if the set is a little more wide ranging.

 OH DEAR!!

This time I think I am not taking any friends along and just hook up with some of you guys, don't want anyone not enjoying it as much as I do, plus I wanna queue up early.

I think this might be hard to get tickets for. I did manage to get Blur tickets for Wolverhampton and this will probably be a similar struggle. Can they don't come up north? Not Manchester cause our venues arn't great but Sheffield would be grand.

I knew there was a reason I skipped wireless (apart from not wanting to spend best part of £200 on an outdoor show full of morons)

There is a pre-sale to those registered on pulp people, so should be ok to get tickets.  Then again I thought that with the wireless pre-sale....

Yeah, pre-sales are usually easy for anyone to access. Touts are not stupid, they will have been right on it as soon as the twitter update was on there... Basically it will be nearly the same amount of people as general sale but with less tickets. Anyone get the feeling this is the last pulp gig? Obviously there is one festival after, but i'm not sure they'll tour afterwards. I live in hope... though.

Payday is Friday, so I'll have to get my tickets with the general public, if I'm going. It's the day after Candida's birthday, (and exactly 2 weeks before Mark's). Sing along anyone?

Myself and deebs from this forum tried to get a singalong going for Russell at Primavera (he turned 50 the previous week) but it was too difficult. In a less vast, indoor area you might fare better.

The touts got burnt a bit on wireless on Saturday and Sunday.  Maybe if they got the 241 they did alright, but there were a lot of tickets selling on seatwave for less than £55.   Same has happened for a few festivals/gigs this year, but I suppose they just take the odd loss alongside the more profitable gigs. Black Eyed Peas tickets were going for £100+ on Friday, so that's where they made.

Fuck, fuck, fuck I'm in the USA for this.

Glastonbury and Wireless were special in their own ways but an indoor gig wouldve been amazing. I'm sure it won't be their last but I'm not back until the 16th September and if they tour I may well have missed them...

Yeah, the touts were probably selling them for about 15/20 when grace jones was on, this is what it was liek when blur did hyde park. These huge gigs are not money spinners cause the face is high enough anyway and there's normally a load floating about even if it sells out.

They'll probably have the tickets for the UK tour on sale 2nd September 9am.  Just as you are heading home on the train/coach...

Brixton is between Reading/Leeds & Electric Picnic, so they have a couple of nights spare  (assuming 1st September if 31st August sells out).  Any UK tour would probably be towards the end of the year (November/December).

Or they could just hop back across after Electric Picnic and do the North onwards? I really hope not since PJ Harvey and Arcade Fire have already announced gigs during this 17 day holiday I'm taking...

Best to just stroll towards the box office late in the day, look curious but not too bothered and then you'll have them approach you.  Got a couple of cheap tickets in my time off touts like that.

If you are really lucky, someone may give you a ticket cos their mate/girlfriend couldn't make it.  I have given them away in those circumstances, after the touts offer me nothing, and got some as well.

That was my original plan, but the prices on seatwave got low enough to not worry about the hassle.  The e-ticket is a bit dodgy though.   I got mine off seatwave, and wasn't entirely convinced I would be let in.  No way would I buy an e-ticket off a tout. They probably have printed a hundred.

OH NO! Only one gig and not far enough in the future for me to save any money! And they're going on sale before payday.. :( :( :(

Now I'm stuck relying on friend's spares and scrambling to get money for a flight..

What does everyone think of the probability of more shows?

They are clearly loving the adulation received so far so I would be amazed if this was it. Still think they might surprise with a trans-atlantic jaunt (sans Russell).

The only fear is the novelty wears-off and they get a bit burnt-out schlepping across Europe and Australia over the next couple of months. Going from the radio interview Candida in particular still doesn't like the prospect of touring so if there is to be any longevity to this it may involve sticking to the UK.

Thing is Pulp like to put on a show, and that costs.  So they have to tour a bit to get the payback.  I suspect that having got the new stage set, they can use it for the rest of the year before the next hiatus.

whats all this in the article linked somewhere on this forum (perhaps under 'wireless meetup') about Pulp quitting while they're ahead and not doing concerts after the at brixton?

Probable, but just have to wait and see.  I reckon a dozen UK dates in November/December, and a handful of European dates.  Not sure about the US, but then again I didn't expect Australia.

Yep in wireless meetup thread. I reckon the journalist took Jarvis' comment about seeing everyone in three years time literally.  I think they will see how the Brixton date sells and take a view on whether or not to tour any further.    Maybe everyone was fully committed to the beginning of September, but may not want to do much more. Candida and Russell may drop out. Who knows?  Wholly idle speculation on my part.

I think Pulp (or their management) have, at long last, figured out how to market themselves.

Wireless Festival must have had a non-competition clause in their contract preventing Pulp from scheduling any other shows in London until after Wireless. Even if they didn't, Pulp wouldn't have announced the date until after the Wireless show to prevent splitting their audience.

Now they're dropping rumours that the Brixton show may, or may not, be their last performance. It's all very calculated.

Personally, I think the Brixton show is a big gamble. Its following too soon after Wireless and all the other festivals.

Like most you lot I would love to go, but I don't think I can afford it. Pending a sudden cash windfall, the only way they'll get me to dig deep into my pockets again so soon is if they make an announcement to the effect of: "this once-in-a-lifetime concert will span Pulp's full 30 year history".

Brixton isn't a big gamble at all. Plenty of big fans who will happily see them again (the big setlist changes is worth bearing in mind too), plus I know lots of others who didnt want to pay £55 to see Pulp play a festival set who would happily pay £35 to see them play an Academy show. They can easily sell out two nights there minimum.

Yes, they could probably sell out 4 or 5 at brixton but I don't think they will do more than 1. I imagine there will be another show after electric picnic, maybe sheffield? I don't think they will be interested in much more after that though. It's been fun hansn't it?

Quite amusing after reading the previous posts!

A bit surprised that they're doing these before the end of the festival season as FF said. Don't know if it reduces the chances of a subsequent nationwide tour or makes it more likely.

I can see them doing a European tour. If they're going round a few places it makes sense timewise to stick Russell on a Eurostar and then just bus it round Europe. Poland I'll imagine they will have flown since it was in between UK shows.

I'll have to try and arrange yet more time off work to go to see Pulp, but I don't want to miss one of these nights.

As it is in London again I may actually be able to use my newly acquired casino membership once more while I'm down there, although I'm not sure exactly what the staff there thought of a group of Pulp loving Misfits using the place as a bar till daft o'clock in the morning!

biggrinbiggrin If only I was coming I definitely wouldve been down for a drink at that casino for old times' sakes. Mind you, it will be some way from Brixton so you'd probably have to go out of your way a bit for it!

Er, hate to break it to you two, but I think we may be even less popular with the casino staff after I returned there on my own to wait for the first tube back. I tucked myself away in the corner and fell asleep with my head on the table for hour and half - set my alarm and everything. Got some very dirty looks from the staff on my way out, who probably think I am vagrant now.

I will definitely be returning for the Brixton gig. I can never really properly afford any of the gig tickets I buy, but when I look back it's the fantastic times I've had that I remember, and not what bill got unpaid, or what shit I had to eat for a month to get there.

I got fucking bedbugs from my hotel in Lancaster Gate. Wouldve been better off being a vagrant in the casino!

I'd be fine with more UK dates, as long as they're further in the future (Nov/Dec as some have predicted).

I'm not even expecting a North American tour, just hoping as it would save me several hundred dollars!

I would literally cry if I missed a show where they played Death Comes to Town.. TEARS

I'm basing my mad scrambling for a flight over whether or not my friends can grab a spare ticket for me.. presale is before payday and regular sale is 04:00am my time

Less likely than the 2nd September, as they are playing Leeds on 28th.   If there is a third date (I think it is unlikely) it would probably be on Friday 2nd.

No, I don't think it will be the last show as Pulp, though it may be the last with the full line up. (Idle speculation reading between lines).

I suspect there will be two different set lists on each night.  They will have the big hits like Common People, DYRTF?, Sorted, Disco 2000 and Babies at both, but will probably mix and match the others. I suspect that with the pre-sale, the first night may delve deeper into the back catalogue. (again, idle speculation, don't take my word for it).

Hey all. Massive long time fan of Pulp, but have never signed up to this board (don't normally use forums). Have signed up just to ask this...

Are they planning on sending more emails out, as I signed up to the mailing list a while ago, but nothing has come through to my inbox. Do normally get things from them.

Really want to do at least one of the Brixton shows, and am scared they will sell out in the presale. This is Pulp, after all.

Any help really would be appreciated, and i'd owe you big time. Many thanks :)

Hmm... Y'know August 31st is awfully close to the end of the summer... I wonder if Pulp will do a song that touches on that.

Interestingly enough that second date is now removed, but I guess it's only temporarily.

This is bloomin' painful. I cannot justify paying out for two nights. Hope that the encores are similar at both shows. I was so upset when I went to see them in Brixton in 2002 and missed the night that they played "Anorexic Beauty".

I suspect that two dates are booked. But only once the first date sells out will the second go on sale.  I'd prefer Thursday to Wednesday as I will probably only go to one night.

Silly question, but how much are the tickets?  Not seen any prices for this (nor Morrissey for that matter) and they all go on sale Friday. (Wednesday for pre-sale)

Is this a fair assumption to make: The first night will have the lesser known songs because it will probably mostly be people signed in to pulppeople who have prebooked? @LeoVK I would be gutted if the same happened here

Wish that Pulp would do what Maximo Park, Sparks and I'm sure many other bands have done before, and take votes on what their encore set should be.

That sounds OK, so I may do two nights after all.  Well assuming booking fees are about £2.50.

Id doubt this will be the last date. Since they got big, theyve only ever missed the Sheffield/S Yorks area once...I got the Brixton email as checking out of our hotel for Wireless. I'm giving it a pass, as cant justify the cost to get between Sheff and there, plus hotel costs.

Tyranny of the masses: such an undertaking would produce an encore of Babies, Disco 2000 and Common People.

Rather, what they should do is turn the reigns over to the caretakers of this message board.

ARGH!!! I am seriously considering selling a limb so I can attend both shows hehehehehehe

I am not going on holiday this year cause of all this, IOW, Wirless, Leeds, two nights at Brixton......... I might as well set up a direct debit into Pulp's bank account!!!!!!

I've joked about selling a kidney to pay for my flight already hahaha

Kidneys and limbs are not disposable. Egg cells, on the other hand, are well worth cashing in. Plus, you can have peace of mind knowing that somewhere out there is a child with your excellent music taste woven into his/her genes.

They played anorexic beauty in 2002? Bugger, I missed it! Was that around when they did all the "forest" gigs? I like that this board has similar panicking people on it, hubby and mates like Pulp (thanks to having had to listen to it all over the years) but don't have the same level as me to be fair. Is it too much to ask for Pulp at Christmas, pleeeeease?

I will probably be tempted enough to do both nights. Given that I am both wreckless with money and get carried away by excitement very easily.

Is it just the tickets for the 31st going on pre-sale tomorrow? In which case I'll want to get that one in the bag first.

I reckon both will become available tomorrow. I used to work for ticketmaster and generally once the first pre-sale sold out they would put the 2nd date on pre-sale too. The problem with that is it's hard to know when the next date will become available, it tends to bee a random time once the first has all gone. Hopefully the 2nd date on pre-sale thursday instead to give us warning. Don't wanna sit refreshing all day.

It's really weird, usually with See Tickets they reserve the tickets for you whilst you enter your details...

Argh! Out of stock while I was entering my details?! Normally these sites will keep the tickets on hold for you for a couple of minutes whilst entering your details! That sucks.

Had to grab some seated tickets upstairs instead, which I guess is fine...my girlfriend is coming along who gets a bit fed-up with me always forcing her to hang around down the front of these things for hours on end! Haha.

Still...a little bit miffed about that!
