Hey everyone,

I'm new.

Was wondering if there was any sort of meetup organised for the London Wireless show in July?

Personally I'm in a bit of a quandry - I'm absolutely desperate to see them live but most of my friends aren't in for it. Either they like Pulp but not enough to want to go from Leeds to London on a Sunday for it...or want to go to the Saturday of Wireless instead...or were about to go until Prince announced his Hop Farm gig on the same day.

So either way I think I'll go but if there was some way of watching it with a few people then that would be ideal. I'm not used to going to gigs on my own and I guess a few fans getting together would be fun either way...

Yeah I think there has been mention on here of plenty of interest in a wireless meet up. I´m definately up for it, was great to meet Eamonn this weekend and it would be nice to meet more of you at wireless.

We have a few weeks to sort out details, perhaps this thread could be used to do so?

Ha, this personally feels quite funny to be a total newbie on this site and get the wheels in motion on a forum meetup between people who've been on here for years.

Either way, bring it on. There's only one place we can go, it's around the corner in Soho...

Round the corner in soho - that's very clever.

Yeah I'm up for it. Me and a load of mates are going so we can just work it into the grand plan! Just need someone to suggest a time and a place

I honestly do think a meetup at Bar Italia either before the gig for some lunch, or maybe for a drink or two after the gig would be funny and to see just how many other Pulp fans that day have the same idea.

Think it only takes about 20 minutes to Tube it from there, or its about half an hour walk up Oxford St to Hyde Park.

I was thinking the same thing. How many people can we cram into a cafe in Soho? There are ten of us! Let's go!

i'd love that as well. I'm heading over from Sydney and I know one person going but as I purchased those expensive tickets, I think I'll end up standing/dancing in the grand stand by myself which is a little sad....but yes I'd love to meet up with some massive Pulp fans!!

I'm game for it. I'm a massive Pulp fan and I hardly ever meet other fans, so it would be cool to meet fellow fans.

Maybe we could all meet at a pub (Pulp centric perhaps) Maida Vale, Kentish Town (does Mark still live around there?), Finsbury Park, Brixton, Hoxton Park - get my drift....on Saturday night before Wireless or even Friday night.

Just thinking out aloud here?

Maybe if we all put where we live/or are staying for the event I could work out where to meet maybe for a saturday meet up before the gig? Sadly I'm an expert on London pubs! I promise not to suggest the nice place 30 seconds from my house...

Trying to think of somewhere to go on the Sunday - it might have to be some shitey cheesey place in town.

It would be great meeting up at some point. Does anyone knows what kind of time will the festival finish ?

Does anyone else have the same problem ? I met my husband well after Pulp split up, so he never saw the groupie-side of me... He's coming to Wireless but might get a little scared off !

Heres the map to walk from Bar Italia in Soho to Hyde Park...

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&xhr=t&q=bar+italia+soho&cp=11&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&biw=1366&bih=541&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl

Not the closest but also easily walkable - plus Marble Arch tube is 5 minutes tube from Tottenham Court Road if you don't feel like walking it that much.

They serve beer/wine as well as pre-gig food!

Does anyone know around what time Pulp will actually be on stage? I should have college Monday though something tells me I may be 'ill' on that day (Pulp clearly has priority over my education :P) Plus do you reckon there will be a way to get the pulp wireless poster? It's pretty cool!

Pulp are on Sunday, not Monday. Unless you're talking about not being able to make it back home in time for Monday?

I'd imagine they'll be on around 9ish.

lol I know Pulp are on Sunday but for the Barcelona concert they came on at 1.45 AM Saturday for their Friday concert so was wondering whether it would be the same sort of story here - I'm no festival genius though so maybe they're completely different (I suppose it is Sunday and probably quite a few people have work the next day)

Nope, Hyde Park will have a curfew. It'll be 9, half 9 at the latest with a finish by 11pm

Spanish/Portuguese/Latin American countries do everything later, but here we care about our sleep a bit too much...

I have a similar problem - I'm going to Wireless with my husband too and I think he's slightly alarmed by my fever pitch excitement . My daughter recently asked, "Do you love Jarvis more than Daddy?"

Not that I want to discourage a Saturday night meetup too, but I was thinking of meeting up on the day of the gig itself?

Maybe meet at Bar Italia at 1 and head down around half 2?

So, hypothetically, if someone were to organize a Pulp Tribute Night on the Friday before Wireless, would any of you be interested in attending/collaborating?

EDIT: ...in London, of course.

 Well, look.

It's a chance to hear rare Pulp and Pulp-related songs and bootlegs you will otherwise never get to hear in a public place, in a private bar full of like-minded fans.

But... the pub (which I already have) needs to make a minimum Ł800, or I get stuck with the bill.

So, I'd love to do this, but I need at least one other person to commit to co-DJ, help organise and promote the event.

Oh, and I'm full ideas to turn it into a genuine 'event'. Door prizes, a Pulp Quiz, and some karaoke for brave souls among ya. But I can't do it all myself.

I agree. I'm coming down to London on Sunday for the show, so a meet up on Sunday evening would be great. Be good to go somewhere afterwards too. I've been looking into it and haven't found much yet!

Fuss Free I'd be there!
You only need 40 people spending Ł20 at the bar each and you'd get loads more than 40 people i'd reckon, especially if you put something up on the pulp page on FB

I can't dj though.... am rubbish at stuff like that sadly.

This would be great and could probably have helped out but I'm going to go see The Flaming Lips at Ally Pally on the Friday.

I'll be in London from Friday through to Monday so I'm easy when/where the meet up takes place.

TFL, very nice! Something'll get sorted out, I'm sure. I can't realy take London for more than a few days and I'm only down for the day. I remember last time I saw Pulp in London was Finsbury Park 98 and that was a bit of a disaster!

A meet at Bar Italia would be good, though may I just add that acting out Pulp lyrics could not always have the best consequences!

I'm in London Saturday and Sunday so can meet either or both days, but unfortunately will not be able to make Fuss Free's proposed Pulp rarities night. I'm staying pretty much next to Hyde park, Kensington Gardens Square to be exact.

I'd just like to point out that Bar Italia is a bit cramped and they don't seem to have much regard for their famous Pulp connection. Its a fine meeting point, but I wouldn't recommend staying. Perhaps we should identify a pub nearby? I don't plan to go to the festival until around 18:00. The other acts hold zero interest for me and I cannot justify wasting my entire afternoon there. Long queues and overpriced beer: no thank you.

Does anyone have an opinion on what would be a good time to arrive at Hyde Park in order to obtain a good vantage point? Am all prepared to stand through a few bands that I'm not too bothered about if it means I can sneak my way forward. Although I don't desperately want to be right at the VERY front, it would be nice to see a little more than just a few blurry stick figures in the distance.

Good news as far as the lenght of the show is concerned :

EVENT TIMES

Friday 1st July (The Black Eyed Peas + Guests): Doors 14:30 - Show 16:00
Saturday 2nd July (The Chemical Brothers + Guests): Doors 12:00 - Show 14:00
Sunday 3rd July (Pulp + Guests): Doors 12:00 - Show 14:00

Set times will not be available until the week of the event, when they will be published on this website. The days headliners will be last on and will perform full concert sets, ending at around 22:30.

There will be no readmission to the event should you leave at any time during the day.

All times are subject to change.

I guess we can hope for a show as long as in Toulouse

I've been thinking the exact same thing. No idea on how to win the waiting game. It depends on the weather.  If it rains, you'll have no problem getting to the front as I experienced with Blur & Oasis in London in the dim and distant past.  Also if it is very hot then a few will drift backwards.

Never been to wireless, but I think it's fair to say the audience won't be the most dedicated festival goers, and probably quite a few will be making for the exits long before the end, especially on a Sunday night.

I'm not sure tickets are selling that well, because they are still advertising in London Metro just two weeks before the gig.  You may be able to stroll to the front.

At big shows like this you tend to find that hardcore fans who want to be at the front will be able to do so easily as there are plenty of people who are content on watching from a distance.

Fuss Free - All bus shelters will be in cahoots now since they saw Pulp had been rehearsing their songs from 1992/1993. It's the the only real period in music that they have been properly acknowledged!

Cutcopy - I thought the VIP tickets looked like a bit of a rip off! You can't see the band from where the tent is?! Am I right?

As I won't be doing any other festival, I might turn up early and make a day of it (if it doesn't rain that is).  I'll bring my Barclaycard and see if I can get the goodlies like a ticket upgrade or a balcony view.  If I'm lucky I'll get to dine with Russell, Nick and Steve (fat chance!)

Got my tickets in the post a few weeks ago. As soon as I heard Pulp were coming back, I ordered the tickets on the exact day they went on sale at the exact time (I believe it was November 11 at 9am). Are there any 100% concrete plans for a meetup made yet?

Shall we confirm:

2PM - 3:00PM
Bar Italia, Soho
22 Frith St, London W1D 4RP

3PM
Party Move to: The Coach and Horses Pub
34 Romilly Street, Westminster, London
(just around the corner)

Off to Festival at 4:30-5:00.

------
SOMEWHAT UNRELATED

For those looking for a Friday night out, How Does it Feel is having a 'Alternative Pulp' theme night on Friday July 1. The idea is to play Pulp's less popular club tracks, mixed in with the usual HDIF staples (indiepop, Northern Soul, britpop, post-punk, you get the idea).

Actually, I will probably be going in at doors to get a good spot much like Pip. Should be a good gig! :D

Yep I'm going to go doors as well. I was doors for Finsbury Park as well, and it was ok, except I got crushed during Ultrasound, nearly had my arm broken, got seperated from my date and ended up being hauled over the barrier and having to lie in the St John's Ambulance area during Catatonia. Hopefully Hyde park will be a bit more sedate. Must remember bottled water.

Pip, Jazza...care to meet up at Hyde Park?

I'm not gonna spend all day there like. Once you're in there are no pass outs and I can only imagine the corporate imagery/prices/uncomfortablness. So I would happily go along with Fuss Free's plan.

When I went to see Moz at Wireless, this sounds really weird and geeky but we took in our M&S stuff and had a picnic in there, fraction of the price for food in there, yeah of course drink is extortionate....

Well, as it seems most of you are planning to go to the festival at 'doors open', it a bit pointless to plan a meet up at Bar Italia on Sunday afternoon. Consider it cancelled.

No need to get stroppy...I think some people were interested in your plan.

No stroppery intended, Eamonn. It just seems a bit redundant to hold the meetup when only or or two people have expressed interest. Better to plan a meetup at the festival, I say.

Do carry on with the meetup at Bar Italia if you'd like.

Well I'm happy to do either. Might do a Pulpy photograph tour with my mates around London in the afternoon then aim to get to Hyde Park at about 4pm. Does anyone have any suggestions as to wear I should go?

how busy do you lot reckon it will be? I thought the general impression was that it wouldn't be too packed, but after Glastonbury...

This may be considered bad manners by some, but from my past experiences of getting in early and bagging a spot at the front that you dare not leave for hours (even if you are dying for a drink/sit down/piss), it is just as effective to stay in the pub drinking for cheaper, loos on hand, and then worm my way down to the front at the last minute.

It's what loads of other people do, and I got fed up with being the mug stood at the front for hours only to have some very tall and very drunk person right in front of my face just before the band came on. All is fair in love and war now.

I never really went away - just been silently stalking you all! If anyone sees a bad mannered small blonde woman barging her way past you all to the front on Sunday, say hello to me :)

The spirit of a gig/show/concert whatever you want to call it is that everyone has a good time. Crowds of people enjoying themselves tend to organise themselves anyway. The one's who are happy at the back tend to stay there and the one's who want to get up front get there.

I'm happy as long as I can see the band in the flesh rather than a screen and I'm in a decent focus point of the speakers to get a good sound. I'm usually happy at these big shows to take up position 30 mins before the band start and then find a space to stand in (by a space I mean an actual space not a place someone was standing in until I shimmied them out of it). Good manners is the key - I'm 6 ft 2 so usually have a check to see who is standing behind me and if they're a bit short ask if they want to get infront of me - also if I am gonna squeeze myself a bit further foward say "excuse me", "Thank you" and "sorry" instead of just barging through like a big old bag of shite! My days of being in the front row are definately over as my body, bladder and patience can just no longer cope!

I agree with you anet, it's pointless standing there all day (unless you really do want front row centre stage) as come 8.45pm you're just gonna get a bit pissed off rather than over joyed!

Yes, well if we all lock arms and barge to the front surely we can manoeuvre ourselves.

How far are people coming?  Not too far for me, as i'm in zone 4 in London, so it's only going to take me about 45 minutes to get there (and maybe 2 hours to queue for tube coming home).

Coming from Cardiff... and attempting to head back straight afterwards, which may be foolhardy. The coach leaves Victoria at 11:30... :-/ just depends on being able to get onto the Tube at Marble Arch, should be easy from there...?

Possible word of warning about Marble Arch tube station - I was at Hyde Park last Friday for Hard Rock Calling, and on leaving they had closed Marble Arch tube station. I assume this wasn't just a coincidence.

steve, don't go from marble arch, go to one of the tubes south of the park, or you could even walk it in about 30 mins (if you don't get stuck in a crowd)

You should probably splash out on a taxi Steve!

I think I may be a contender for the furthest travelling distance to do for this show... as I had bought my big brother and his girlfriend tickets for The Flaming Lips at Ally Pally on the Friday for his birthday back in October and then Pulp reformed and announced this concert - and so there are now 10 of us travelling down on the Saturday. Because I work on the railways I can get free travel for everyone but they must be accompanied by me!

So I'm travelling Newcastle to London Friday, watching The Flaming Lips. Travelling back with my brother and depositing him in Newcastle on Saturday then immediately picking up my 9 mates and travelling back to London, arriving back Saturday evening then taking everyone back home on Monday means a round trip of just under 1000 miles!
