Great to see Misshapes go down so well. Perfect length, instantly catchy, fast-paced and an easy anthemic clarion call to sing along to. Hard to believe they disowned it for so long really. There's always room for Common People and this.
Was on the fence, slightly left of stage centre but still right in front of Jarvis.
Mindblowing, one of the best gigs I've ever been to and something I will never forget. Was in the same spot for Radiohead the previous day who are actually my favourite band, but Pulp blew them and everyone else away.
I had said to someone stood next to me that I was desperate to hear Like A Friend played live but looking at previous setlists I thought there was no chance of actually hearing it. When it came it was even more brilliant than I had been imagining it. The setlist was perfect - yes it was only 14 songs but I couldn't have thought of a better set of 14 songs to play. Every song I was desperate to hear they played, though obviously missing countless others out that I would love to hear.
Really great to see their set get so many platitutudes too. I think the brilliance of their set was universal, and not just from those, like me, who don't remember the first time and who have been waiting more than eight years to hear songs we love.
That was totally me you were stood next to! Best gig ever. Did your pictures come out?

Were you the girl from L.A. I was speaking to? Yeah I got photos but they have loads of pictures of the security guards in so need to crop them before uploading them! How were yours? I'm resolving the problem of potentially having to go to the gig on my own by meeting up with people from here instead...
All these baritalia forum people meeting each other lately, random or planned...quite nice really considering the amount of regular posters there were until relatively recently.

Have you seen this photo?
YES!!! I wish I didn't have my stupid hands up. Here is a link to my pictures, all my glasto photos, but they are mostly of Pulp and Jarvis.
Someone posted a nice playlist of youtube clips from the Glastonbury performance on here somewhere. Does anybody know where it is? As I can't find it! (But I am a bit useless!) Thanks!
Sarah, can't say I agree with you on Russell/Mark. I'd expected Russell to age somewhat, but other than a little bit of weight, I thought he still looked amazing. Full of character, carrying himself well, dressed up to the nines and still with his old, dependable stage persona of hating everything around him.
Mark though, I was shocked at Glastonbury! Yes, he put on weight, but I suppose 'cos he was always shorter, you could see it more. He also looked really old, he seemed slightly sunburnt, his hair was lank and those glasses, too. Oh dear oh dear! I did feel sorry for him. He played well, but there was no charisma there, sadly.
As for Steve. Well, he must have a portrait in the attic, mustn't he...?

Why feel sorry for him? He's aging! They're getting into their 50s, Stephen, you can't expect them to look like they did 20 years ago... I don't really care if they look older/fatter/balder/whatever... they're lovely people!

Agree with the sentiment but Mark is 40, a lot younger than the rest of the group yet he has aged noticeably. So had Candida when I saw TheBeatIsTheLaw but she's looked great at the reunion shows so far, very graceful. Got her roots done especially no doubt ;)
Nick, maybe a few more pounds too.. all the better to give him a great man-hug if I ever get the chance.

Oooh, way to rattle my cage, Stephen. Yes, I admit when I first saw him in that Ken Jacobs interview, I was a little shocked at the changes in him, least of all the glasses, but you know, it wasn't like it was unexpected. I mean I don't look the same as I did 15 years ago. Hell I don't even look the same as I did 5 years ago. Maybe it's the curse of the youngest to age badly. As for his lacklustre looks, it's no secret Mark suffers terribly from hayfever and with all these festival dates, poor love is probably rotten with it. Plus when Russell is absent on the the eastern european dates, he really has to up his game somewhat. Also he's hasn't neglected his film curation stuff, so as well as entertaining us lot, he planning and arranging his Experiementa and Plenty screening and is currently working on a book/books on Avant-Garde cinema. Cut the guy some slack already!
For my part, I still love him to bits. Glasses or no glasses, aging or not, he's still the most amazing man I've ever met. He's always been and still is the shy, quiet man I fell head over heels for in the nineties. If you interpret that as a lack of charisma, then so be it.
Man, if you ever see him smile close up, it's like the sun emmerging from behind a cloud. Beautiful.
Mind you, I do agree with the hair thing. He never has got that quite right. (Wouldn't stop me running my fingers through it though!)

Pip, I know they're ageing, but with Russell going from 36 (when last in Pulp) to 50 now seems less of a jump than Mark going from 32 when last in Pulp to 41 now. I suppose it's a harder age bracket to jump across.
Plus I feel sorry because I know what it's like having an extra wrinkle or an extra creak in the knee every day!!
And yes Mark, I think Steve has become a 'Grecian 2000' sort of hair-dye man. He split up with his wife last year though, didn't he? Maybe it's to help his self confidence a bit? After all, you can dye your hair, but it's the one thing you can change...!
Eamonn, you're right about Candida - she looks so peaceful and contended throughout. Lovely to see.
Re: Mark and hayfever. I can strongly recommend 'Nasonex'. This year was the first year of festivals I managed to get through without streaming eyes and nose!
I'm sure Mark does up his game when Russell is away, but the Russell era of Pulp has always been much more 'my' era. It's just more fun and pop and...weird. As amazing as This is Hardcore and We Love Life are, it's just not quite the same band for me...
