I think they gave Mark a more prominent spot since he was always a bit of an additional musician during the days when Russell was next to him. Mark was a full member of Pulp 'till the end. It would be weird he would have been served off and put in the back spot when Russell came back.

Yeah i thought that too but that seemed weird anyway. Maybe that means it's temporary, that Russel wont be joining them for further adventures (new album ?) and that those festival gigs are only a last goodbye for him. Maybe im reading too much into it but stage set up is always a good indication on who is important.

I think it's highly, HIGHLY unlikely they'd do another album and stuff anyway. Pretty sure these shows are a "last goodbye", which would explain why they didn't bother to learn TIH and WLL songs with Russell.

I agree Calumlynn, I don't think they'll do another album, but I could see them maybe touring again some day

I dont know, when i compare to the blur reunion, there seems to be a lot of money thrown out there just for a farewell tour. Especially the new website. We should know more after the new interviews.

So good to hear a modern day Pink Glove - just needs a bit more of a touch up and it will be spot on. Only think I dont appear to be keen on is Jarvis "talking the words" opposed to singing them..........

Hahaha. In the Pink Glove clip, I love how Jarvis points at Mark when he comes in too early with the guitar as if to say "NOT YET!!".

Hahah sorry, but that's mental. No band would think like that "Oh well, so and so deserves to be here on the stage because it symbolises what a loyal member they were etc etc"

The decision would have been made purely from a technical point of view and personal preference. Maybe Russell wanted to be at the side because it made it easier for him leaving the stage on the songs he didn't play on? Maybe it was much easier for the extra guitarist to be next to Steve because they need the same monitor mixes? And if you think about all the D.I.s for the millions of keyboards plus violins, maybe Russell HAD to be over there in order to actually plug in?

Or, in most probability, they just decided in rehearsals that the stage layout would be like that, and it just so happened that on probably the smallest stage they'll be playing this tour, it looks like Russell is right off to the side, whereas on big festival stages...it won't.

Bookmark - Where are you travelling from in France? For the hotels I recommend laterooms, I usually found good stuff on there!

Can't decide which old pulp t-shirt to wear... hesitating between the "i'm Common" and Mish-Shapes one but they're both very worn out :)

It's probably just a logistics thing, having Russell where he is. Mark has accumilated a lot of hardware over the last few years, ie samplers and keyboards, effects pedals. If you've ever read that Melody Maker article from 1998, you'll know what sort of stuff he's got. So maybe he just needs the space, or something. Or maybe, yes, smaller stage.

The layout is essentially the same as it has been in the earlier years. From the view of the adience: Russell on the left. Mark next, but a bit more to the back. Jarvis. Steve on the right. When Russell left, Mark moved to Russell's spot and Richard Hawley moved in between Steve and Jarvis and a bit to the back. Like Sarah said, Mark gathered more and more material, like keyboards and stuff, so his space expanded. When Russell got back, he went back to his old spot, but needed more room and therefore the space of Russell became smaller. The new guy got a spot next to Steve, albeit not on the spot of Richard Hawley.

Just joined to straighten a couple of points out!

Russell wasn't being "punished" as far as I could see. I was right in front of him during the gig, and he seemed quite happy where he was. It allowed him to nip into the wings to get a drink now and then too. Lucky sod. It was very hot in there, and I spent the next 24 hours with a dehydration headache.

At the start of the gig, Jarvis mentioned someone's birthday. I didn't catch the name, but I think it must have been Russell he was talking about. Also, when Jarvis announced Russell was going off for a short rest, he was actually standing with his arm about Russell's shoulder to prevent him sneaking off quiet-like. I can still see the slightly bemused look on Russell's face as he stood there clutching a can of Coke Light, with the spotlight on him and all the fans cheering.

Also, the guy with the "I Remember The First Time" T-shirt is lucky to be alive. I want that T-shirt. There was NO MERCH! A historic occasion like that and no merch???!!!!

Ah, that was it. I think I went deaf from all the awesome. He also mentioned Tapdancing Day in America (yes, Jarvis tapdanced for us), but completely forgot it was also Towel Day.

God almighty, how is it possible? They haven't forgotten anything! Any single thing. Guess not even in my dreams, the setlist would be that perfect. Neither Jarvis or Mark or Russell (*-*) would be so perfect. Which is not perfect is this goddamn distance that separates Brazil from Europe that makes me sob on every video I see and prevents me from realizing my dream. Life's good, but then you live in Brazil and has assured that your favorite band will never come to your country... Life's sucks.

Yeah, no sign of new merchandise at Primavera either. The T-shirt was from e-bay, if anyone wants further details PM me, I´ve even got a discount code you can use.

At Primavera Russell snuck off stage without Jarvis saying a word, and then rejoined half way through Sunrise.
