Now could live with that if they were also going back to the festival that supposedly meant so much to them and helped their career (and inspired me to go there), but for them to play nearly everywhere BUT Glasto... Just makes them look like real sellouts! I'm seeing them at Wireless but the reunion has really been tainted in my eyes at the moment

I think it is best not to go back to Glastonbury, because all anyone would say is it's not as good as 1995.  They wouldn't headline, and I don't see the point in supporting U2 or Coldplay.

IMHO gigs before Glastonbury 1995 were the best.  After that, they weren't quite so personal to me anymore.

I wish Pulp had done their own gig like Arcade Fire in Hyde Park rather than wireless and had some say in the support like Magna.  I suspect that sales for wireless aren't as good as may have been expected, and that promoters are not calling.

I'm happy for them to sellout if they boost their bank balances a bit, and who knows they may get inspired enough to make a new album.   Maybe they could go and play smaller venues to promote it with an audience of fans.

Given how conservative Glastonbury has become I don't believe Pulp were seen as headliners. 2007 was the last time I thought all the headliner bands were ones I would want to go and see.

Something like Magna rather than Wireless would have been much better but I guess they don't have the money - but maybe doing these fests would give them the chance?

i lost hope for them being headliners ages ago! I was just hoping they'd maybe top the bill on the Other Stage or even a secret set somewhere.

One positive that could be drawn from Eavis's quote is the bit about them doing their own shows!

My personal positive...which people who haven't been to Glastonbury might not understand is.....

atleast my whole sunday wont be all about being at the pyramid...I'm abit obsessive when it comes to pulp (lol) and ive been at the front at Leeds fest twice (i mean proper front, holding the barrier) when they have played...but it took a whole afternoon of dedication you understand.

Being 'at the front' for countless other bands to get to the barrier....like the way i turn up to their gigs 5 hours before they are on...... lol....Glastonbury has so much more going on...that id almost feel like im missing out, for the god-knows-how-many hours it would take to get a decent spot at Glastonbury (given that its a whole lot bigger then any other festival) im 5 foot...so im either at the front or MILES away to get a good view. (looking at screens)....

yes its a shite positive.....but eh.. it's something :( isn't it? :(

ETA - - !!! I ment Other stage not Pyramid!!! same stuff still stands.

I need them to do their own tour.....seriously.....they will wont they??

I went to Leeds festival for 10 years every year - i loved it to death...till i met Glastonbury lol.....maybe i outgrew it...I was almost willing to pay for the weekend when i discovered the tickets were still available...but friggin' 'ell....think im out of touch....i don't know many bands at all. :s
Sunday looks OK, with madness and strokes, but 200 quid for the pair of us, 1 day....gahhhhh....

Id be willing to pay for a good few local gigs!, god knows ive done it before....Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield, Leeds, even London and Glasgow!!!
please please please!!!!

I'm with you on all that Rachel! Used to go to Leeds alongside Glasto but had some horrible times there and wouldn't go back even for Pulp (though if I weren't on holiday at the time I might be saying different!). Stood atthe front at Leeds in 2000 for five hours with my arm in a splint (though it helped that the acts before them were great). There's got to be a gig in Sheffield. In fact their latest email has a list of announced gigs "so far", so definitely more to come

Do we know if Pulp were even offered a spot at Glastonbury? Seems to be a few folk who have dismissed the band as money grabbers before even hearing their side of things, which is a little unfair.

To those going to Glasto I'm dissapointed for you, but it is all part of buying a Glasto ticket these days that you don't know who you will see. Still, I'm sure when the time comes around you'll have a great time there, even without Pulp.

liltman!! i feel like know you?? and the arm in splint rings a bell - why?!?! *lol*

RE Leeds...I attended for 10 years, i was never robbed, my tent didnt get set alight...riots did happen but they were always far away from me. (i camped i yellow bubble?...don't remember where i camped at in the old park...except it was like a 30-40 minute walk. - i do remember after GNR - everything going nuts tho.)
II always feel like i need to stick up for Leeds fest, because nothing sinister happened to me.
My reasons for not going back is...there's nothing going on after midnight?..it cost so much money...you get searched every were you go.....no drinks in the arena (unless you pay )....the general attitude is shit..balh.....people put up with being treated so badly but the organisers are fine with that.... :(.
My first glasto was 2007 - apparently the worst year ever.....loved it...and even then I'd choose it over every other festival.
liltman - im so sorry you had a bad experience at Leeds. Over the years its becomes more aparent that i was very very lucky in my experiences.

Some bloke decided to set fire to my pack-a-mac (I was wearing it at the time!) whilest I was preparing to be 'entertained' by Daphnie & Celeste at Leeds 2000. I think that experience sums up the festival as whole!

I haven't dismissed them as money grabbers, I said it was a possibility because us Glasto veterans can't imagine Eavis not offering them a slot, but it could be true. Rachel, were we stood next to each other or something?! I had some brilliant times at Leeds too, I went from 99 to 02, but was camped in the middle of all the rioting in my last year. Saw riot police getting bottled, a Slipknot fan fired a fire extinguisher in my face... so that was it for me. Glasto 07 was my worst year there too! The rain just got me down and there wasn't enough to see, but my first year was 97, which was also muddy, so I can see why you still loved it.

glasto 07 was the best i've been to in recent years, despite the rain. '10 was definately the worst, and i fear this years will eclipse it in the shit stakes. i think i'm gonna retire after this one as its gone downhill so much since my first one in 2002. gonna go to primavera instead and live it up!

edit - i feel the decline is mainly due to them booking whoever is on emily eavis' ipod

Don't want to ruffle any feathers, but Glastonbury is so elitest - you need photo ID to gain access for f**ks sake - that I don't think it's the sort of place Pulp should be playing anyway.

Erm, the photo ID is to stop touts so people can actually afford tickets without having to pay hundreds extra for tickets on eBay, so how is that elitist?'

Line-up announced and they're not there, but Discodeine and Duayne Eddy are there, meaning possible Jarvis collaborations, and/or maybe one of the special guest slots at the Park?

We live in hope! It would be amazing if they played one of the special guest slots on the park stage (its not like those slots are exclusively played by bands already doing 'official' slots) but I doubt it personally :(
that said I'll definitely be getting someone to text me from back home when they find out online who it is. i found it surprising how little word gets round the actual site about who's playing those slots. I found out about Thom Yorke when it was too late so that sucked!

I'm not gonna get my hopes up on them making a 'suprise' appearence and just enjoy the festival... otherwise you just end up getting disappointed again. if you have a smart phone Twitter is the best place to find out about those special guest slots. Obviously, you then have the problem of your phone dying... Don't waste your time watching it charge up in the Orange tents or your money on a solar charger (as they are rubbish) there's a few stalls that charge phones for a few quid so you can leave it and come back to it in a couple of hours.

Can't find the link!

In other news, Notjarviscocker on Twitter has just made a remark about the Glasto line-up poster and it being too late to be on it. I know Bort insists it isn't him, but Lauren Laverne thinks it is him!

Looking at some of the other people following him (Chilly Gonzales, The Beat Is The Law, Emily Eavis), I'm almost convinced it is him and that Pulp will play the Park, probably Friday!

Definately, defiately Pulp, I even predicted them as secret Park Stage act on here!!

And I do think that Twitter character is the real Jarv. He has said before "hmmm, Glasotnbury tickets sold out. What to do? What to do?"

I hope I can find a bookies who will take a bet on this as I am certain it will be Pulp :P
