I still think they will be a secret act, left unannounced until the rumours leak on the site.
Otherwise, I suspect the reason for not doing it could be so as not to risk taking the gloss of what was their biggest ever performance, by playing it less successfully on the comeback tour?
One of the editors of eFestivals asked Eavis on Saturday and he said something along the lines of with them playing at Reading and Leeds they didn't need them!
haha "didn't need them"? That's a bit strong if that's what he actually said....also the idea that they're going for "whoever offered them the most money" is rubbish given what Jarvis has said about glastonbury before the reunion was even announced. its common knowledge that with glastonbury (even the headliners) the money bands get is hardly huge.
i was thinking earlier actually I hope they end up as one of the secret 'special guest' slots that seem to be becoming more common in the last couple of years. Franz Ferdinand/Thom Yorke etc. would be good, if unlikely/definitely not now.

They took that risk when they headlined in 1998...

Not sure of your point. If the bold bit is true then surely it adds to the argument that they are doing Leeds/Reading instead for more money? I wonder if their placing on the bill was a sticking point. The compromise of co-headlining with The Strokes at Leeds/Reading suggests maybe their management (still Geoff and Jeanette?) are taking no prisoners.
I know they are second on the bill at Isle of Wight but if reports are to be believed they were approached after the 3 headlining slots were filled but are getting the same money.
Bit of a shame then, considering this was the one festival we all thought a reunion would be based around. Now it seems they are doing practically every other festival in Europe apart from Glasto!
I agree with you Eamonn. I'm so depressed about this, my wife thinks I'm being really over the top, but I just feel like they really must have done it for the money. Now could live with that if they were also going back to the festival that supposedly meant so much to them and helped their career (and inspired me to go there), but for them to play nearly everywhere BUT Glasto... Just makes them look like real sellouts! I'm seeing them at Wireless but the reunion has really been tainted in my eyes at the moment
Don't be too gutted fella. To be honest I think they more than paid their dues putting petrol money into Transit vans to play to a dozen or two people around the country during the 80's. Probably lost money more often than made it. They've been there and done it. I don't begrudge them a payday.
Nor would I rule out them working together beyond the summer either. Let's wait and see what they say in interviews when they start doing press in the next couple of months.
Hi Rachel, recognise your photo from eFestivals. I almost daren't look on eFestivals now because I'm waiting for some idiot to say they're glad they're not playing or call them sellouts. I think I'd end up going apeshit on them!
hi!!! haha long time member here, but not much a poster. lol. Yeah I'm the same with that thread, :( Ive honestly been so down today its untrue, my finance has never seen pulp and i thought at our favourite place in the world we'd get to see them together! - like a dream come true lol. I cant afford wireless....and I'm not sure about Leeds (possibly for Sunday - but not sure) Grrrr - why didn't they just play glasto!!!?! I was always under the impression that the whole 'pulp re-union' thing started on the glasto boards on efests (and else were maybe?) in 2009-2010 (getting such a good reception that it started making news thats why Jarvis got asked would he ever reform) ?? maybe I'm wrong.
No that's exactly how i thought it came about too. Ny wife never saw them at the time but loved them too, and I thought this would finally be our chance to see them together, but she can't go to Wireless. It really pisses me off that it may be Reading and Leeds that's thrown the spanner in the works. I went to Leeds in my youth but never again

I know they've played their in '98 but I just think it would be more of showcase with all eyes on them as a comeback band.

There's no reason why they can't do both Glastonbury and the money-grub gigs. Blur did it in 2009...
I don't like the way he's so dismissive about them. Did he make an offer and was turned down? To say 'well they're playing elsewhere' isn't exactly a good reason.
