I'd imagine that in order to make it worth his while and to make the book "marketable" poor old Mr Sturdy would have to update all the old stuff then write another chapter to bring it up to the present day .... and then get it on the shelves for late 2011ish
A lot of work and a very mean task to set himself!
yes I would definitely want and updated edition, sadly Ive only read snippets of the book online as I was never able to get a physical copy of it in New York
Question number 2: would you be interested in a new edition where the bulk of the book was the same, but with an extra chapter or two bolted on to the end to bring things up to date? (Ie basically covering Relaxed Muscle, Jarvis solo, the reunion, and everyone else's bits and bobs.)
Less interested, but I would buy it because I would buy anything that is even a little better. I must have bought about 10 histories of Arsenal in the last 25 years with very little difference, so I'm sure I'd buy this.
Have been re-reading this book, and I had to laugh at a horrible typo on page 254 that opines about Common People: "there could simply have been no excuse for this record to be universally loved." I assume there's a big NOT missing somewhere in that sentence?
Thought I might just bump this thread seeing as there are a few more people on the board these days. My publishers don't seem to think there's enough market for a fully revised edition. Prove them wrong!

But I was thinking, even if your publishers didn't think it worthwhile rereleasing it with new info/interviews, then why not consider rereleasing it yourself? PDF it on a CD for £10 or something...? I'd certainly buy a new version, no matter what format it came in.
Omnibus don't even appear to have the original Truth And Beauty on their website. Help yourselves for God sake!
What number would it need to sell to break even - less than a thousand? I think you said before that the original sold 3,000 approx though presumably over a 5+ year timescale. They should at least see how much the Hatherley fella sells of his to gauge demand (though they are different beasts in angle, the subject is the same).
It's sold closer to 5,000 now - hence being officially out of print at the moment, which is probably why Omnibus aren't bothering to mention it on their site.
Releasing it myself - I don't think I could legally do a new version of the book that way, but it has crossed my mind that I could do an entirely new book in quite a different format, with minimal cross-over with the previous one (and obviously quite a bit shorter). The thing about self-publishing though, is I'm not sure I can be arsed! Writing a book is much easier when someone else is providing (a) enough money for you to eat while you're writing it, and (b) a deadline so there's a vague possibility of finishing the damn thing!

5,000 and out of print...'kin 'ell, isn't that enough of a reason for them to remake/remodel it? It's sold more than Hits (I know...not difficult), come on! Who should we write to petition (whilst getting practice for the We Love Life deluxe)?
