So Rage against the Machine have got the Chrsitmas number one, which gives me an idea. How about doing the same thing, but with trying to get Common People to the top spot it deserves but was so cruelly denied by those twerps off "Soldier Soldier"?
Anyone good with Facebook? Come on , lets really put a dent in Simon Cowell's reputation.

Anyone good with Facebook? Come on , lets really put a dent in Simon Cowell's reputation. Thing is I was amazed that people were so bothered by the Christmas number one they would pay to download it. I spent £3 more productively buying the Small Faces BBC Sessions on vinyl yesterday.
Sadly I don't think 1/2 million people would buy Common People....
Smiths/Morrssey fans did attempt it a couple of years ago with 'Life Is A Pigsty' think they just made the top 80 or something silly like that. It's an intresting exercise but I'm afraid in regards to the charts, the damage has been done - these days in regards to number one, whether it be Christmas or not - I really couldn't give a fuck!
I think the success of the RATM thing was down to more than just RATM fans getting behind it.
Firstly you had the X Factor thing - a lot of people will have spent the 79p or whatever to download the track even if they had never heard it - just to annoy Mr Cowell and 'make a stand' against another x factor winner becoming xmas #1. Where as in a round a bout way it's probably made him a shit load of extra money through the extra publicity.
The real winners here were Sony, as both tracks ultimately belong to them. Don't tell me there wasn't a few people behind the scenes pulling the media strings in order to cause a "chart war" which historically have always been very good for extra sales.
Now if I were to take my cynical hat off I'd tell you it was all rather intresting and fun to observe but if anyone were to attempt to repeat that then it would be a case of jumping on a bandwagon that had already left some months ago.
It would have been nice to see Pulp at #1 back in the day but I fear the only chance of it happening now is if Peter Kay does 'Sorted For E's & Wizz' with Brian Harvey, Bez, Sam Fox and Michael Jackson's Doctor... which frankly, I'd have mixed feelings about!

Not only just number one, the charts in general. I just had a look at the top 100 and bar the cover versions (Queen & The Muppets! WTF! ) and re-releases I don't recognise most of them. Who'd have thought Robbie Williams would cover the Sex Pistols.... (It's probably a different song)
