i've had a bootleg of this show for years and always wondered what the hell Jarvis was doing at the end.  he was in such a caustic mood the whole show....

anyone see this broadcast?

I think this was on not too long ago and someone said that the feedback monitors, I think that's what they are (things he flips over) weren't working , making it hard for the band to play, for the entire gig so Jarvis wasn't too pleased!

The band's equipment has been sent elsewhere in the world on the wrong flight. That (plus a few too many drinks!) has put Jarvis in a bit of a grumpy mood! After 'Common People' he tips all the monitors off the stage and buggers off! The bootleg is gripping stuff with many a handbag raising moment!

It doesn't help when your lead guitarist comes in 5 seconds late on your trademark anthem. I love Mark Webber to bits as you well know, but even I have to question that. I have a feeling he may have been ripped by Jarvis after that one

Also, notice Mark's playing on the "Warhol" amps? Presumably none of his equipment got sent to Russia, which may have exaserbated (sp?) tensions that day as well.

If you watch the rest of the band it's pretty clear that they're all having a bit of a hard time onstage. Probably one of those typical festival situations where no one can hear what they're doing and you've no idea whether it's all falling apart around you. I'm sure that's only part of the story though. God knows what must have gone on backstage to create such a wired atmosphere.

I agree the bootleg is a gripping listen - it's like the adverse situation forced them to really go for it.

Incidentally, Candida looks rather nice here doesn't she?

Leave the poor fucker alone - about time he indulged in some clichéd rock'n'roll behaviour. Pity he didn't take a long run and stage-dive into the crowd to top it all off.

I had heard that it was Jarvis' birthday as well, can anyone confirm that?

I'd love to see the whole set.  The intro to the opener, The Fear, is priceless, "Yes, we are Pulp, yes, you are not safe yet. You are going to die in pain.  It's going to be very horrible and very painful."  or something like that.

According to Truth and Beauty, Rockpalaste was 20 June, which is 3 months before Jarvis's birthday.

Actually I have the entire gig on a pirate video somewhere, but not having a VHS machine anymore means I haven't seen it in years.

There is another bootleg out there where Jarvis is in a bit off a mood again and it's his birthday... it's from 1998 again. i can't remember anymore detail off the top of my head.
I like it on this gig where at the end of 'Do You Remember...' he goes, " ooo hoo hoo.. You wanna go home... TOO FUCKING RIGHT!"

I'll attempt to upload the tracks to BI account when I have some spare time for those who'd like to hear it.

Strange, I thought the "You wanna go home... too fucking right" comment was from Loreley as well.

According to Pulp People, Jarvis' birthday meltdown gig was September 19 1998, Tokyo On Air East. Haven't heard that one though!

It is from Loreley... I haven't made a good job of writing about 2 things at once there!

I'm curious about this other bootleg now. I shall launch my investigation tomorrow!

She does. I love her style. She always looked good. I'm curious what she looks like now. Probably hasn't aged very much.
Steve & Mark look very nice in this video as well.
Interesting performance. I've never seen agression like that come out of Jarvis.

In my Loreley DYRTFT he closes by saying something like, "Double right, chew for fresh breath always!"

which is also pretty funny.
