Whilst looking up some avant-garde film articles by Mark Webber on Google, I came across links to an album released last year called Radure 4 : The Iki. Now one of the artists listed is named Mark Webber. The four tracks by this artist are guitar based ambient, and sound a bit Brian Eno.

I was wondering if anyone knew anything more about this release, whether or not it was Pulp's Mark Webber or another musician with the same name (which would be a bit of a coincidence)

Anyway, have a listen and make your own mind up. I think they are quite lovely.

The tracks in question are 33 - 36

Seems likely enough. I recall a one-off with Thurston Moore a few years back that was in the same general vain.

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I wish We Love Life had sounded more like this.

Hmm.... according to this blog the Mark Webber in question appears to be from Canada. There's a link to Myspace page but it's dead. Either it's a different Mark or he's covering his tracks very well!

Or he moved to Canada?

Ask him yourself:

Fanzine editor, musician, film curator, Formula 1 champion.....just how many guises does Webbo have?

In an interview a while back (probably during the promotion of the first solo lp) Jarvis said he or Steve, can't remember which, live quite close to him in London but that they never see him.

I mailed Marco Lucchi on Myspace. He wasn't sure, but he thinks no. Which would be a shame.

Although curiously I did find a link to a last.fm webpage which featured the first track "Coastalplan" alongside a DC era pic of Mark, which if it's not him would be a bit weird.

Last.fm frequently cannot differentiate between artists/bands with the same name. Plus, any user can just upload a photo.

I doubt our Mark lives in Canada now. Isn't most/all of his film curating work in England?

Not all of it. According to The Frameworks Archive he's hosted programmes in America, Germany, Australia even I seem to remember, Japan.

Posting someone's private email address on a forum like that is a bit naughty, Mr Fuss Free.

Normally, I would agree with you, Sturdy, but Mark has made his email publicly available online here. All I had to do was google search his name plus "curator" and it was one of the top links.

But now I feel bad. I'll go back and delete it if I still have the option.

Mark (''our'' Mar') did a song with Thurston Moore? I never knew...And I'm intrigued how they became acquainted. Perhaps when Pulp borrowed Sonic Youth's gear at the Lorelei Festival in '98 after their own stuff was sent to Russia?
A Jarvis quote from that show (great bootleg it is too despite his wretched mood): ''My own amp is more interesting than me. Better travelled.''

Webbo's been discussed more in the past week than probably ever on here. Great, in't it?

Yes, his track is number 7 on the "Root" album. Sandwiched between Blur and Stereolab and still managing to sound better then both of them. Note, it's Mark on his own, not with the rest of Pulp. The album is from 1997, before the Lorelie gig so presumably Thurston knew Mark's interest in avant-garde music and so roped him into partaking.
