I'm curious to find out how this message board skews, WRT the new album.

Think it's a good album...if the wording had said "great album" however...

It's growing more and more in me. I was a bit disappointed at first, mainly because i thought the guitars were a bit too clean for such a heavy orientated album.

But after a month or so, it really sounds great, though i still cant forgive 3 things : the saxo intro on Homewrecked (god awful), the sequencing of the album (really bad), and Girls Like It Too not being on it.

I'm a massive pulp fan but also maybe more rock-orientated than most people here, so thumbs up for me, that's the album Jarvis had to make to end the Pulp sound for good.

You might want to see a doctor about that.

You might want to get a new joke book!

Btw - I never thought much of Girls Like it Too, so I don't mind it being off the album - but agree about the' god-awfu'l saxophones on Homewrecker - I think guitar on that part would have sounded much better.

The saxophone is class. Wish they'd left the brass bits off 'I Never Said I Was Deep' though. When they come in at the chorus I keep thinking of Van Morrison. Not in a good way.

The only saxophone piece that ever sounded good was the one on Gerry Rafferty's Baker Street.
Trumpets, however are cool.

I disagree. I love saxophone, whether it's John Coltrane, David Bowie or Morphine. Sure, it can be abused, but so can pretty much any instrument.

I have found I have come to like the album more after giving it a break for a couple of weeks or so and then coming back to it, but I don't know if it is a good album, so I voted no. Possibly better than the first Jarvis Cocker album overall, but without any really strong songs (except the title track).     Maybe poll should be a little more wide ranging with an out of 10.  I'd give it 5 or 6 right now.

The lyrics are alright but the " music "...no..no, i have listen to the Manchester gig a few times now and the acoustic styles fits the songs so much better.

I never said I was funny, but I am laughably tedious.

I really like it, not sure about Homewrecker and Pilchard - but live he dances during those so your attention is not fully on the music... lol

I think they all work well live from the Shepherds Bush gig and Rough Trade shop appearance. Some slate 'You're In My Eyes' but I think its really nice. I'm glad he has kept 'Black Magic' from Jarvis on the setlist for this tour, thats amazing live.

I heard Big Julie in a central London pub last night and it reminded me that the first solo album really did have some great moments.  Sadly, I don't think Further Complications does.

I thought you said DiscoSong was his best song in years, a couple of months back?!

I generally like the new album alot, though having said that I can understand and even agree with some of the criticism of it. I heard most of the songs live first, which definately helped, and I'd urge others to hear the songs live before writing them off completely.

I'm sure I did, but now it sounds fairly dull.  I suppose it's my favourite track off FC, at least he sounds like himself on this song, and it doesn't have the lame rock Americanisms of I Never Said I Was Deep etc.  But it's no Sheffield Sex City, I Spy, Seductive Barry, Deep Fried In Kelvin etc.

I've never been a fan of saxophone's but I LOVE the intro to Homewrecker!

I also love Pilchard, I never said I was deep and fluffingsong.

Only track I've no time for is disco song but I think the Pilooski version is great.

(best long JC/Pulp song is Wickerman, I reckon)
