I'm not sure I'm as entirely blown away by this as everyone else.  It's a pretty serviceable, faithful cover, but the vocals aren't great and it IS just a more boring arrangement of the song.

You do like the original though, despite Russell's non-involvement?

Haha, yes I do!  To be honest I was a little unnerved by comeback single Help The Aged's "same-old" feel: a fine song, but it somehow felt a little like a leftover from Different Class

This Is Hardcore
blew me away though.  It's just phenomenal.

My story is just that I don't like rock music anymore.

Heh, me neither.

I don't even listen to Jarvis' music anymore. I just think he's one of the last interesting celebrities in a world full of bores.

Hi, so glad you found Vaqueros Paganos, they're one of my favorite bands in the indie scene of Buenos Aires.  That cover is fantastic, I was there that night and it was awesome.  Here's the link to their LP, it's free download

Bienvenido! Did you get to see Jarvis on his Latin American tour last year? (No puedo acordar si tocó en Buenos Aires).

careful people I ADORE keane! :P
The studio version of disco2000 is quite a bit better. It is on the Island50 CD. Even as a die hard Keane fan, I would never say they can even come close to PULP's version. I think Island made them do it for the 50th anniversary cd. I doub't it was their idea. They just road tested it at live gigs and the fans loved it...for the song itself I think.

There is a london band on myspace called 'Concrete G-ds'. They have an absolutely hilarious cockney cover of 'common people' ...worth a listen.

Yep, I'm sure that the members of Keane can all really relate to those lyrics...

I don't think there is any greater wrong than a bunch of middle of the road, humourless, posh, privileged private school twats singing about "woodchip on the wall".

Not that I'm one of these people who think that Pulp were some huge "working class" band, but seriously, they should have changed the lyrics to "Daddy used to give both of us a lift home sometimes in his Bentley fitted with in-car dvd player and drinks cooler but it meant nothing to you, cause you were so popular..."

I find it disturbing too.

That opening riff cannot - must not - be played on keyboard. It should be only played on a Gibson ES345 stereo.

Preferably by Mark Webber.

Anyone else, possibly not even Hawley, could do it justice.

Webbo is a placid man, but I think even he would up and rip Tom's nostrils out for this travesty.

Her name is Davinah......Davinah!!!
Still could be worse.....could've been Phil Collins. That really would have me reaching for the sick bucket.

I like Phil Collins.  He sings and plays the drums at the same time. Who else can do that?

Dunno about that. They've played it live a lot and even said it was a favourite of theirs. It's not a bad stab but like has been said the riff just doesn't work on keyboards. Too much HIGH NRG campness. Like something the black bloke from the Radion Micro ads with the colourful clothes would use for his spin-off aerobics videos.

One of my favourite Pulp songs but little to no chance of hearing it performed live ever again. I suppose after the year 2000 there was not much point but still......i live in hope. And if Pulp ever do reform they really should perform this song as it was a big single at the time. What your really paying money for is to hear their hits now and this was one of their hits.

And he manages to drag it out for more than seven horror filled minutes. What a sadistic bastard.

Loved it! Thanks for sharing!

If you can't appreciate the guy doing laps around a giant stage, looking like Ghandi gone on a bender, then I think you take life much to seriously.

I find the number of hispanic Pulp fans facinating. Absolutely facinating. There is a guy on youtube called ProudRobot (check him out guys) who has got some live stuff, TV footage and promo vids and put spanish captions on them.
