came across this on amazon. anyone know if Island got wise and started doing all the Pulp catalogue on vinyl so the 100 pound business on ebay can finally stop?
A number of albums are getting re-released by universal for the ahem 60th anniversary of the LP in 180 gram vinyl, so I suppose it is possible that Pulp could be one... http://www.backtoblackvinyl.com/
Hardcore is set for a release date of 2nd February (but believe it when you see it)
And to top it off, that vinyl reissue is with the basic 12 tracks on the album, and not include the tracks that the double vinyl thats already in existance offers if i remember rightly
£38.00? Are they fucking nuts? That's almost what they go for on ebay.
Probably won't be £38. HMV tend to stick up a high price on future releases until they get the stock. In all likelihood it will be around £20 as shown here (albeit out of stock) http://www.cargorecords.co.uk/release/6988

Apparently the reissue does have the full set of tracks. As much as I'd like this, it would be third or fourth version of the album I'd have got (original, with Glastonbury and deluxe plus all the singles more or less). Maybe if I get sent to the US at work (not unlikely) I may try and seek out a copy. Even with sterling heading south it will probably be cheaper.

Didn't you know, Pulp records don't get sold in the US. Rather, Americans pay x2 the British cost for an "Import", or we buy from Amazon Uk at the regular British price and pay for int'l shipping.
Island hasn't supported Pulp in the US since the Party Hard single. (Rough Trade/Sanctuary put out WLL).

Sure, but from what I understand this is an import from the US on Plain records. The $ price is around $26 whereas the best £ price I have seen is £23
Again I'm not sure if I will pay £23/$26 unless I see it in the racks and have the overwhelming impulse to buy. I have been checking out the local HMV @ Trocadero but haven't seen it. Sadly zavvi is about to go under so no chance of it apprearing there (though their 50% off vinyl has allowed me to nab a few Ramones Lps along with the New York Dolls, Velvet Underground & Marvin Gaye for less than £4 each)
Honestly, they muck around with bizarre stuff like this and we still don't get a deluxe edition of WLL. Bah!
Agreed. Wasn't TiH a mostly or all-digital recording? Seems like a weird choice of Pulp album to get a vinyl reissue. You'd think His 'n' Hers or Different Class would've been first.

What do you mean exactly by "all-digital recording"?
In relation to a potential WLL deluxe edition, it will be interesting to see if the success (or not) of Jarvis' new album will help bring about the reissue of Pulp's last album. If it doesn't we could always ask Universal to make the unreleased songs demoed from that period available to download at the going rate.
Where did you see it for $19? I may get a colleague in the US to get it and have someone bring it over.
As much as I would like a resurgence in vinyl, as I buy little else these days, and the fact that there is a increase in vinyl sales, it still represents less than 1% of the total market.
Approximate figures US 2008 (yearly change).....
Vinyl - 2 million albums (up 50%) CD - 360 million albums (down 20%) Download - 66 million units (up 32%) [that's just legal downloads]
There is a growth in purchasing vinyl but not in the volumes that make it economically viable. This means the vinyl is likely to be expensive. I wouldn't expect any other album apart from Different Class to get a vinyl re-release (ideally with the changeable covers ).

Pretty much every recording since the early/mid 1990s is an all-digital recording where the original sounds are recorded and mixed digitally. Older CDs have AAD to show they were recorded and mixed as analog, but these are rare these days as most re-releases are digitally re-mastered.
A WLL deluxe version would be great but not very likely. Pulp were well treated with three deluxe editions, most bands do well to get one. Of all the bands I like, only the Happy Mondays got two, though pretty much everything on them was already available unlike the excellent Pulp deluxe editions. Julian Cope's Jehovahkill runs them a close second, but only for the unreleased material not the packaging which was far superior for Pulp.
The download route is an interesting one. CD quality downloads of previously unavailable material could be provided via Universal or HDtracks. Unless there is a contractural reason preventing it, Pulp/Jarvis could release these tracks for free download on myspace. Sod the going rate! How they justify charging so much for low quality downloads is amazing. CDs often cost less these days, and you get a case, cover and no DRM, though that is dying out.
I'm sure everyone on this board is aware of the collectible value of vinyl. How many of us know someone with a huge record collection, and no turntable?
I think This is Hardcore came out at the low-point in vinyl sales, when the record companies weren't even bothering to press records. Vinyl was still popular when His n Hers came out (I think audiotape was still the top selling format in 1993/4) and the popularity of DC insured that DC would get substantial vinyl pressings. Then, by the time WLL finally came out, vinyl was already experiencing renewed popularity. I've seen the vinyl for WLL everywhere.
I have only ever seen one copy of This is Hardcore on vinyl. A guy I knew who used to own his own record shop had it in his personal collection, and he had to special order it for himself. Maybe TIH on vinyl is more common in the UK? That would explain why this is a North American release.

Most of my huge record collection is in storage, but I do have a turntable and a select set of records to play on it (I just need a bigger place to live).
I have been looking for all the Pulp albums on vinyl for a reasonable price for a while, but even Intro is expensive, whereas Hardcore & Different Class (with the exchangeable covers) are just up for silly prices.
I was discussing finding these with someone who deals in vinyl who is looking out for me. He said that although the Pulp vinyl is rare, the original pressings were all poor (pretty common for Island), and that they are probably best bought to look at rather than play.
I have picked up some newer vinyl in recent weeks, and the pressings are far superior to a lot of the older vinyl I have, particularly stuff from the late seventies/early eighties. Some of those discs could almost count as flexi discs, and the groove cramming made some albums unlistenable.
i'll make a post with the cheapest TIH price i come across.
WLL i found recently for $50 CAN, i bought it. i remember seeing Different Class once in Montreal for $19.99, but i didn't buy it. i've never seen His 'N' Hers. i figured that that would be the one least likely to be pressed. it's also the one that turns up for close to $300 USD on ebay whenever i see it.
i got Intro for $9.99 in 2008. (it's sad that i remember all this.)
WLL is definitely not a great sounding record. it might be the production and not the bullshit Island pressing. speaking of, i recently watched 30 Century Man. the only mention of WLL is a brief story Jarvis tells about the brim of Walker's baseball cap as a reflection of his comfort level, then, "We made an album called 'We Love Life'...nobody bought it."
This may be the biggest problem with that album. As much as I love Scott Walker WLL has none of the warmth or character that a lot of his own recordings have.
I found Different Class after years of searching for $25 but it wasn't mint. Had all the inserts but there was a piece of tape stupidly on the cover. But it plays fine and the price is better than the $150-300 I've seen them go for on ebay.
I am lucky to have scored We Love Life on ebay for only $40 in mint condition.

I'm tempted to sell you mine. What's a realistic price? I still dream of seeing it in a charity shop discarded with a load of other Pulp records carelessly given away
Mmmm, realistic for me would be up to £20, but I wouldn't expect to get it for that.
What I would actually pay would depend on factors such as record condition, my mood and finances. I suppose I would go up to around £50 at a stretch.
A mint copy has just come up on ebay, which is up to £32 already.
... and prices are falling. On amazon, the new U2 and franz (a double LP to boot) are less than £10 delivered. Ordered the latter along with Jarvis (which I got for £11) today. Black is back.
