From that bastion of pop news, Channel 4 teletext's music part:
Jarvis Cocker, Martha Wainwright and Feist are to go the Arctic to examine climate change, PS can reveal.
They will go to Disko Bay from September 25-October 6 on a research boat organised by Cape Farewell to see the effects of climate change in the Artic Circle.
Joining oceanographers and architects, other musicians inlcude KT Tunstall, Laurie Anderson and Robyn Hitchcock.
10 days in the company of Tunstall in the freezing cold? I hope you know what you're letting yourself in for Jarvis...
He's back in the UK now, did a repeat of that music lecture in Manchester yesterday. Possibly performed a bar or two of Shakespeare Rock again, can any of our Manc contingent (Barcroft innit?) confirm I wonder.
Eammon, I completely forgot about the In The City event (the event where Jarvis did this lecture, I believe), until it was too late, unfortunately. Therefore I'm non the wiser.
I'll be hoping he plays some old stuff on the 'looking rough at 30' tour though which i'm glad to ahve got my ticket for :)
I'm not sure I understand why he is doing this. His own curiousity?
Further more though, why is he hanging around a bunch of mediocre musicians?
Now I don't pretend to speak for Jarvis, but I suspect he wanted to see the northern polar ice-cap before it completely disappears, and quite possibly reshapes the entire Earth's ecosphere. A reality which, perhaps, outweighs any concerns about musicianship.
I mean more like, why the TV special? Why does he have to go with all the mediocre musicians at once?
Why not go with friends or family off of TV? Is this to get the public to understand they are melting and raise awareness? Although I thought we were already aware...
