Is the '96 Common People mix actually any different at all?

Well, that was short & to the point. Best fill up with some waffle.
How is everyone this evening? Excited about the November tour?
I'm definately off to Shepherd's Bush, & there's a VERY slim chance I may get to go to Edinburgh too. (My mum lives near there.)

I've been practicing my Cuckoo cover, I might try it out at the Caversham Festival tomorrow.
Been working on the Long Blondes' I'm Going To Hell too.
I wanted to crack After You, but it sounded shit on just an acoustic guitar. & I couldn't cope with the rythm for such a long period!

Maybe it's the Wii Elbow!

Anyone think Jarvis might play a couple of Pulp songs this time around?
Does Shakespeare Rock count as his first post-Pulp Pulp song?
& did anyone find a recording of it?

Anyway, enough waffle!!!!!!!!
I just wondered about the 96 CD 'cos there's one on ebay. If I wasn't overdrawn already I'd just go for it 'cos I like the artwork...!

Jeez, look at all that! I really shouldn't try to communicate late at night!

Hello James. Common People '96 is the same as the single edit with no notable difference at all.

I too am looking forward to November and hearing the new stuff live as well as hoping for an old song popping up in the set.

The Common People '96 mix is just the radio edit, with the word "screw" missing. That's all. I have the same cd, and I bought it for the artwork too! ;)

Was wondering about maybe some early Pulp material too actually! Would seem feasible if it's his 30th year in music anniversary and all...?

Jarvis (and Pulp) have never struck me as the nostalgic types with their sets. They always seem to favour newer stuff over the old, but I shall cross all my crossable bits that he will play something that will light my fire on this one!

I'm still wondering which show to attend. All apart from Birmingham are within easy reach for me. Does anyone have any info/opinions on the venues he's playing. I guess the academy venues are all more or less the same.

 They've been known to surprise audiences with the occasional prehistoric song. "She's Dead" in '98. "Blue Girls" in '99. "I Want You" and "Little Girl" in 2002.  And, this might be stretching, but "Happy Endings" in '03.

Speaking of "I Want You", I don't believe I've ever heard the '02 live version. They played it several times over the forest tour, no? I still love that song and would like to hear how it evolved. Or maybe I have heard it and it didn't make an impression on me..? Anyone have the mp3?

You're right but yes, it was very occassional. Auto being a real treat with Lipgloss, 59 Lyndhurst Grove and Razzmatazz in the set as well, which were rarely played from 96 onwards. I'd love to hear a version Anorexic Beauty that was played on a handful of occasions from 1998.

I think if Jarvis was to put a Pulp song in his current live set one of the older, more rare tunes would fit quite snug with his solo songs

I'm still surprised that the apparent rendition of Shakespeare Rock played at his pop music lecture in Brighton hasn't made it onto the internet by now.
Surely someone must have recorded it, even on a mobile phone.

As for I Want You, I was at the Eden Project & it sounded pretty unchanged & very good! Great performance.
I'm sure the mp3 from Eden is in the account, ors I don't know how I've come by it! If it's not, I can upload it.

I would LOVE to hear She's Dead (& Disco 2000) from '98. Please, someone?

Is Wilderness any good James? I know he's gone for the pared-down piano and cello sound but I worry he's starting to think his songwriting is more deep and important than it actually is. Pity he doesn't do any Tears stuff solo either.

I like it. Despite the arrangements, melodicly it sounds far more like Suede than either The Tears or his last solo album.
Imagine an acoustic version of Europe Is Our Playground. He's in great voice for it too

It's quite short tho', so I imagine he'll play some older songs live too.
Has he ever done Suede material solo?
Where would I go to see past setlists?

Back to the record, the only slight snag is one or two slightly clunky lines, but that might be just 'cos it's a love-themed album & I'm (very happily!!) single. ;)
Oh, & the 'one, two, three, four' at the beginning of the first track is a little odd, I think.

It's a really good record tho', the stripped-down sound is very well produced & the melodies are lovely. It won't be starting any mosh pits tho'! A very relaxed album.

Yeah he's done plenty of Suede songs. Just as well as I don't think his solo stuff is strong enough to stand on its own in a live setting. Concert Live released some of his live gigs last year. You can see the tracklists to them here:
