love that a thread from 2008 is revived lmao?

i think recent artists i enjoy are caroline polachek, perfume genius, weyes blood, mr twin sister, john maus. older stuff in my rotation ranges, eno, sparks, roxy music, the smiths, s uicide, prince. i LOVE YMO. i will say there is some dude in my larger social circle that feels somewhat pulp-esque in terms of seediness, in a 2023 revivalist indie sleaze kind of way, called 'the dare' who ive been listening to a bit lately? but otherwise i dont think much of the music i like has a lot in common with pulp weirdly either

I discovered an artist called Andrew Cushin as I clicked him on YouTube by mistake. I liked what I heard so started following him and bought what was available. I also went to see him live earlier this year. He has worked with Peter Doherty and Liam Gallagher and has recently released an album which made number 69. I think that, with a bit more promotion through a major label, he will be quite big in future.

Lapinette, I also love Mr Twin Sister. Maybe my favourite band of the 21st Century.

Genesis

My second favourite band, after Pulp. And yes, I'm acutely aware of how utterly incompatible the two choices are. Jarvis, Nick & co would surely disown me, but hey...

Other faves (deep breath): Depeche Mode, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Keane, ABBA, Patrick Wolf, Scott Walker, David Bowie, Bloc Party, Lady Gaga, The Beatles, Muse, Kylie Minogue, Kate Bush, Oasis, Prince, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, New Order, Lana Del Rey, Goldfrapp, Moloko, Roisin Murphy, BANKS, Tyler the Creator, FKA twigs, Shygirl, Tinashe, Tove Lo, The Divine Comedy, Alanis Morrissette, Elvis Presley, Queen, Iggy Pop, The White Stripes, Thin Lizzy, Charli XCX, ABC, Girls Aloud, Frank Ocean, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Spandau Ballet, The Killers, The Weeknd, Ariana Grande, Alexander O'Neal, Marina And The Diamonds, Grace Jones, Lorde, Electric Six, Franz Ferdinand, Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine, Sleeper, The Hives, Blur, Suede, Manics, Spice Girls, The Smiths, Sparks, St Vincent, Jeff Wayne's The War Of The Worlds...

... yeah, I'm all over the place, really.

My favorite is obviously Pulp, but after that would be the Auteurs, Severed Heads, of Montreal, and Sparks.

Also, super envious you're seeing Sparks, cutcopy! Hope you have a fantastic time!

Sparks was sheer joyful pandemonium!! The reaction in Brisbane for them was amazing - They were taken aback. Last show of their world tour. I'm on such a high this morning!! Its funny the last 2 nights I've seen Paul McCartney and then Sparks - 2 icons.
