So after a quiet end to 2007 - after the summer festivals all he did was a DJ event for Oxfam and a set of covers for Rough Trades Christmas knees-up I think; and nothing heard much so far this year, are we to expect that Mr Cocker is beavering away writing new material for a second solo album, or less likely, a Pulp record?

The one real pity about his festival shows last summer was that nothing "new" was performed, despite claiming in an interview around last May that he had written a new song about VHS and Betamax (I think?) and he hoped to try new songs like that out while still on tour. I wonder what happened in the end. Had he a crisis of confidence or was he just not arsed?

I see on nme.com that his version of Heaven 17s Temptation with Beth Ditto is getting an itunes release this week - apparently theres an interview with them both in this weeks edition so maybe he sheds some light on what hes up to at the moment. If its true about him playing dates in Mexico soon you would have to imagine that he will play new material - he must be sick of a lot of the songs on his album as he has had to play the thing in its near-entirety up to now given the lack of a back catalogue as a solo artist. Or maybe hes content in his outsider icon status who moves at his own pace.

Id hate to see him going all-cabaret on us though for the rest of his career and doing the odd cover version on some tv show for a hitherto overly-recognised artist cos he has shown signs of being content in doing just that.

Hopefully he'll make a new album, with or without Pulp. Perhaps he'll go back into hiding after these Latin American gigs, or maybe an European festival apperance here and there. Hopefully he'll stay a musician, but I can also see him move into some other directions like fulltime filmmaking or something like that.

Officially, his next move is:Cast your mind back to this time last year. You probably saw Jarvis at one of his sold out shows or you were smiling at the "Don't Let Him Waste Your Time" video.

Something else was happening too. A unique collaboration was taking place at the annual NME Awards between Jarvis and The Gossip's Beth Ditto in the form of an electrifying cover version of the Heaven 17 classic 'Temptation'!

Rough Trade are now proud to announce its release with all profits donated to housing charity Shelter.

It has taken a full twelve months for the world to be ready for this track - I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed performing it.
Jarvis We are delighted that two of the hottest names in the music business are donating the profits from this single to us. By downloading 'Temptation' you'll not only get a great track, but you'll be raising money to help homeless and badly housed people across Britain. Shelter chief executive Adam Sampson

This digital only release is a must-have souvenir capturing the full energy of the most talked about performance of the night!

The logic of presenting a download-only single as a must-have souvenir escapes me.

Typical - the same day I posted the first mesage on this thread wondering what he's up to, he makes his first blog in months...

Jarvis wrote:

Tour News & Temptation

2008 - Super. Smashing. Great.

Once again I have to apologise for my recent reticence: it doesn't mean I don't love you anymore - honest.

This is the bit where it gets interesting; anybody can start something going but not everyone can KEEP it going & still fewer know how to finish it properly. I'm working on the middle bit - stick the plates on the end of the sticks & SPIN THEM! Billy Smart should be in touch any day now.

Professionally speaking (& let's not forget: I am the Consummate Professional) there is much to alert you to - People of Central & South America, are you in a state of readiness? I do hope so 'cos I will be in your neck of the woods during the first half of March - Monterrey, Mexico City, Buenos Aires, & Santiago, consider yourself duly warned. On another subject - do you remember myself & a certain Miss Beth Ditto doing a version of "Temptation" at the NME awards last year? You do? Well, now you can own it if you like as the NME is making it available on iTunes from the 18th of February - all the proceeds go to the homeless charity "Shelter" you know. And there's more....if only I could remember what it was. Anyway, that'll do for now. I hope this (relatively) new year is treating you well so far & I want you to know that one of my resolutions this year was to be more communicative - ok, this hasn't been the most auspicious of starts but at least I'm not as bad as the people across the street who have still got their Christmas tree up....

Keep the faith.

xx Jarvis

Wonder what the "there's more" is...
