Does anyone have this, and if so, are you willing to share (although not on that Yahoo thing...I can never get any downloads from that to work for some weird reason!!!)
David's Last Summer was only played live a handful of times around the time His 'n' Hers was released in 94. The recording I have uploaded is from a concert at Manchester University (27 April). I think it's a pretty good recording both in terms of sound quality and the performance from the band.
I'm less impressed with this performance than Sturdy. It lacks the album cuts' evocative theatricality, and rather sounds like the band is just rushing through to the next song. It doesn't add to or reveal any hidden depths. Contrast it with performances of FEELING or Seductive Barry, where the band actually seems to relish those songs' indulgent lengths and even improve upon the studio versions. Call me disappointed.
"Disappointed" is a bit much. What were you expecting? Live recordings rarely sound very good, lacking as they are the close atmosphere and bass raising the floorboards, and Pulp were definitely a band who benefitted from multiple takes in the studio.
Though I do prefer the live versions of Countdown and Death II in the archive.
Wow! I didn't even think this song had been played live at all! Haven't listened to it yet but I'm truely grateful to you for giving us all the chance.... Whether it's disappionting or not!
edit... I have listened to it now. I like it! Slightly faster obviously a bit more 'lively' than the studio version - Which is what you want when you see a band live!!
btw - it is a better quality recording than most other stuff i have heard from 1994. Where's the rest of the concert Will? Sounds like a good one!
Am listening now - wow, thanks!!!!!! Sounds like it belongs on Inside Susan. Funny, I don't get that from the studio version. Instant favourite. Again, thankyou!
