James Allenby, I've finally checked out the new version of Cuckoo Song you posted, definately better, well done! Really nice.
Weed, are you still going to do Bar Italia? Looking forward to hearing it!
Personally, I will probably do Little Girl with Blue Eyes or Birds In Your Garden, but I've only narrowed my list down to four possibilities, so don't worry anyone else who fancies one of those for themselves! The other two I'm thinking of are I Want You or Dogs Are Everywhere.
Who else is interested in doing a track? I'm hopig someone's gonna offer up something higher-tempo so there's more of a contrast...but whatever you want!
Great idea to do a tribute album. Are you releasing it on the net or anything?
If I had any ounce of talent musically I'd contribute something from DC, or maybe even something like My Lighthouse.
I know with everyone on here being big Pulp fans who like to listen beyond Common People and Disco 2000, I think it would be good to have the more popular stuff on the tribute aswell!
yeah, I started working on Bar Italia the other day. However, I tripped on the stairs yesterday and have broken my hand! So there mite be a bit of delay until I can play the guitar again!
I'll get there in the end tho!
i thought the same thing, barcroft. I covered Common People with my band a few years ago, they persuaded me to do it as they knew how much a huge Pulp fan I am! I just felt really embarrased singing it tho!
In regards to releasing it, I think we should see what kinda quality stuff we get! We also need to get some more people intrested as we'll be needing at least 10 tracks!
I hadn't heard about this. I did a version of "Something Changed" years ago that people seem to like (even made it on the Pulp Wiki!). I also tried "I Love Life", which was fun, but it would need some work.
So yeah, when's the deadline, and how serious is this? And is it even legal? ;)
I don't think we need a deadline, let's just see what happens. I'm not taking it all too seriously at the moment. I just think it'd be fun and an intresting idea. As for the legality of it, well, it all depends what we are going to do with it!
I say, lets just collect the tracks for now and see what we get! If it's any good then we can take it on another step if we want.
I'm getting excited about this idea. I haven't decided what song I'll cover yet, but I thought if we're going to do this we ought to have a blog dedicated to it. I'm a Xanga guy, so I made a Xanga blog at xanga.com/pulptribute. We can use it to discuss our ideas and progress.
You can post to the blog by registering at xanga.com and using "pulptribute" as the username and "sorted" as the password. Post anything you like. You might start by telling us who you are and what song(s) you're thinking about covering. Hope you like it. --Scott
Me again. James, I just had a brilliant idea for a version of "I Want You". Would you mind if I took that one, since you have a few others in mind? I'm thinking of doing a northern soul/dream pop hybrid.
Well, I made a start on 'Bar Italia' by beginning to program it into cubase but it sounded (how do I put this)..... Shite.
So while my hand is healing I thought I'd try something a bit more electronic, so I started 'My Legendary Girlfriend, and that sounded shite as well!
So I guess, I will have to wait a couple of weeks 'till my hand is better and I can play guitar again, Then give Bar Italia a proper go! I'm determined to have it sounding right. The 12/8 time is annoying me as I am not the greatest musician in the world , but I can do anything if I put my mind to it!
Anyway, Josta, the blogg is a great idea. On my way there now to take a look and leave my mark!
I'd like to give 'Ansaphone' a go but it would have to be recorded in one take 'live', singing along while playing it on the keyboard. My dad has one of those home recording studio electronic units but it might be out of bounds for a while.
I too have joined the Xanga blog. Great idea, & I love the presentation! I think I'll do a demo on some older equipment I'm already used to before starting the proper version on my new digital kit...the ideas in my head seem to be heading towards a slightly crazy post-Floyd Syd Madcap Laughs sort of sound. It's interesting & kinda exciting...
