James Allenby, I've finally checked out the new version of Cuckoo Song you posted, definately better, well done! Really nice.
Weed, are you still going to do Bar Italia? Looking forward to hearing it!
Personally, I will probably do Little Girl with Blue Eyes or Birds In Your Garden, but I've only narrowed my list down to four possibilities, so don't worry anyone else who fancies one of those for themselves! The other two I'm thinking of are I Want You or Dogs Are Everywhere.
Who else is interested in doing a track? I'm hopig someone's gonna offer up something higher-tempo so there's more of a contrast...but whatever you want!
Great idea to do a tribute album. Are you releasing it on the net or anything?
If I had any ounce of talent musically I'd contribute something from DC, or maybe even something like My Lighthouse.
I know with everyone on here being big Pulp fans who like to listen beyond Common People and Disco 2000, I think it would be good to have the more popular stuff on the tribute aswell!
yeah, I started working on Bar Italia the other day. However, I tripped on the stairs yesterday and have broken my hand! So there mite be a bit of delay until I can play the guitar again!
I'll get there in the end tho!
i thought the same thing, barcroft. I covered Common People with my band a few years ago, they persuaded me to do it as they knew how much a huge Pulp fan I am! I just felt really embarrased singing it tho!
In regards to releasing it, I think we should see what kinda quality stuff we get! We also need to get some more people intrested as we'll be needing at least 10 tracks!
I hadn't heard about this. I did a version of "Something Changed" years ago that people seem to like (even made it on the Pulp Wiki!). I also tried "I Love Life", which was fun, but it would need some work.
So yeah, when's the deadline, and how serious is this? And is it even legal? ;)
I don't think we need a deadline, let's just see what happens. I'm not taking it all too seriously at the moment. I just think it'd be fun and an intresting idea. As for the legality of it, well, it all depends what we are going to do with it!
I say, lets just collect the tracks for now and see what we get! If it's any good then we can take it on another step if we want.
I'm getting excited about this idea. I haven't decided what song I'll cover yet, but I thought if we're going to do this we ought to have a blog dedicated to it. I'm a Xanga guy, so I made a Xanga blog at xanga.com/pulptribute. We can use it to discuss our ideas and progress.
You can post to the blog by registering at xanga.com and using "pulptribute" as the username and "sorted" as the password. Post anything you like. You might start by telling us who you are and what song(s) you're thinking about covering. Hope you like it. --Scott
Me again. James, I just had a brilliant idea for a version of "I Want You". Would you mind if I took that one, since you have a few others in mind? I'm thinking of doing a northern soul/dream pop hybrid.
Well, I made a start on 'Bar Italia' by beginning to program it into cubase but it sounded (how do I put this)..... Shite.
So while my hand is healing I thought I'd try something a bit more electronic, so I started 'My Legendary Girlfriend, and that sounded shite as well!
So I guess, I will have to wait a couple of weeks 'till my hand is better and I can play guitar again, Then give Bar Italia a proper go! I'm determined to have it sounding right. The 12/8 time is annoying me as I am not the greatest musician in the world , but I can do anything if I put my mind to it!
Anyway, Josta, the blogg is a great idea. On my way there now to take a look and leave my mark!
I'd like to give 'Ansaphone' a go but it would have to be recorded in one take 'live', singing along while playing it on the keyboard. My dad has one of those home recording studio electronic units but it might be out of bounds for a while.
I too have joined the Xanga blog. Great idea, & I love the presentation! I think I'll do a demo on some older equipment I'm already used to before starting the proper version on my new digital kit...the ideas in my head seem to be heading towards a slightly crazy post-Floyd Syd Madcap Laughs sort of sound. It's interesting & kinda exciting...
I suggested on the blog that it could be a hidden bonus track. I mean, you're a dedicated fan, after all, and it does have rhythm. It's not too hard on the ears or anything.

Hahaha. Thanks, that would be great! But, I think if it makes the cut it must be said that I used some samples of this site called: www.miniorgan.org

a friend did a version of Seconds with alternate lyrics that were inspired by a girlfriend that wouldn't sleep with him, then slept with anyone. it's not quite a cover, but it's pulp-ish. i could put it in the bar italia account if anyone's interested in hearing it. just a warning: it's really vicious. and an embarrassing amount of effort went into it.
This brings up a question....how will we decide whose tracks make the cut...or will there be a cut? Something to ponder over the weekend.
It's easy - the good one's make it, the shit one's don't!
I would have suggested a couple of erm... judges - but i'd like to keep it amoung this board and given the largest concentration of Pulp fans on the internet gathers dust here - i think we should wait till we get all the tracks then put them all up for the vote on here.

that is awesome! my last break-up inspired a remake of pink glove, the favourite line being 'and i'm pretty sure that you're joking / or does screaming in french get you going...'
being nasty was never this fun before.

My recording of Little Girl ebbs nearer. Have a friend staying at the moment, who keeps downloading recording software and insisting it's better. It's fantastic, I know, but isn't my style. Save perhaps for a bit of mastering & percussion. It's a bit dancey for me, see...so I'm waiting for him to go so I can get my DAW, moniters and mixing desk out and do it mmyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy wwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy! I'm also working on We Can Dance Again, but that's more of a live thing. Frisko2000 I'm about to go and listen to your friend's track. Idea sounds great!
i'm not sure. the whole thing was done secretly and "released" as his "christmas single" last year. the christmas before, he recorded a Cramps song with alternate lyrics about another girl. anyway, i'll ask him and get back to you.
Yeah I'm still up for it. Currently I'm now running things from a solo Space here:

'Cuckoo Song' isn't there at the minute but UI'll get it up to download this week. But yeah, I'm definitely up for it and I really want to do 'Cuckoo Song'.
If I can get my soundcard to play nicely (Linux and Vista are currently laughing and pointing at it) then I'll be up for doing something. It might well be instrumental/spoken word though, cos I can't sing for toffee!
My girlfriend and I just decided to make a dance-punk band, so I'm writing songs for that, and this Pulp project is the furthest thing from my mind. I tend to jump around from one thing to another a lot. It's a bad habit.
Is this still on offer? I'd do something for this. Not noticed it before!
I tried doing a project similar to this back in '97 or '98 or so. Got a few tracks for it togethe from various people...but god knows where any of them are now!
Funnily enough Stephen, I was listening to the tracks you'd collected for that project just the other night. It was in a stack of tapes I've been digitising. Shall I upload it somewhere?

I never got around to recording 'Bar Italia' but I might have a go this afternoon if somebody wants to collect all the tracks together and upload our work of genius somewhere!
Well I've never heard of it... I'm not musical, give it away I'll download it, sell it for profit or charity I'll buy it.
Although this thread had been dead four years when I spotted it so make sure it happens!
