Great idea, a chirpy radio-friendly single that'll give the album just the push it needs on the eve of its release... oh, hang on.

Hurrah! Great news, this song will go down well with the general MTV2 crowd. I had just convinced myself that we were only going to get one single!

It reminds of Graham Coxon's solo stuff, does anybody else get reminded of Coxon by this?

I bet we can expect another good video aswell!

Maybe it could follow "My Super Sweet 16" on MTV.

It reminds me too of Graham Coxon's solo stuff.  Like Jarvis too he doesn't seem to get enough credit for his great solo work either.

Delighted that Fat Children is being released finally as a single.  I hope Rough Trade make a big effort to get it to chart - and that means releasing at least two CD versions with great B-sides like live versions of One Man Show, Running The World, Big Stuff or the various cover versions that have been played at the various concerts.

How odd...I was only asking Hawley on his forum a few days ago whether there were any tracks left over from the lp sessions last summer. Apparently there are but he said that he can't remember the details.

If not, maybe the song he mentioned in an interview (with Planet Sound I think) about VHS and Betamax will turn up. It'll be a shame if there are no new songs on it - I can see them putting a live cover version on, the DLHWYT video and being awkward by putting the b-side on the vinyl!

As regards the choice of song, well it was either Fat Children or Black Magic wasn't it? At a push Heavy Weather. Strange that the 6 month gap between singles mirrors the much-derided We Love Life campaign when we had to wait for a similar length of time between Trees/Sunrise and Bad Cover Version. Of course Don't Let Him...should have trailored the album in November, Fat Children should havve come out in February/March and then a third single for the summer. Still, I doubt Jarvis minds too much about the machinations of it anymore. I think it will do pretty well - should get playlisted on Radio 2 anyway, and Meltdown will just have finished, giving him more exposure. There's the South Bank profile on him on ITV around that time too. All that remains is a Glastonbury slot...surprised that hasn't been forthcoming (unless Meltdown clashes with Glasto?).

Glastonbury and Meltdown do clash unfortunately. They both end on June 24th.

Don't forget he's playing the V Festival!

The onyl problem with releasing Fat Children is that it doesn't really reflect the rest of the album. Still, it's the best choice of single.

I don't think it's an especially good choice of single to be honest. Yep it's fast and energetic, but it's also not especially tuneful, rather stark-sounding, the lyrics aren't terribly inspiring and it's got that long instrumental bit at the end. I'm not convinced the public at large will really 'get' it. Then again, I suppose it'd stand out - there's not much else that sounds like it at the moment.

The obvious single was From A to and its singalong chorus
