Hey. I used to post here regularly (about 7 years ago!!! JEEZ!!!). Anyway I've just recorded an acoustic version of 'Cuckoo Song'. If anyone wants to listen then it's on my bands Myspace here:

Yes, really nice, good one!
I'm going to do some recording soon, 'cos I've just started playing live again after quite a while! (Solo acoustic, if anyone cares)
So I reckon I'll do a Pulp song too. Was gonna for my own pleasure, but as you've already made a start why don't we do a fan tribute album if enough people are interested?
Just for fun, like.
& it'd be an excuse for me to do a Pulp cover...

Someone suggested doing a tribute on here a couple of years back. I was intrested then and still really intrested now! I's definately put my name forward to do a track!

Nice work James btw.

Thanks for the comments:) I'll change it so people can download it. I was just sick of not having a clear version of the song. It means a lot to me so I thought "why not do it myself". Hehe:)

I think it might've been me who suggested it last time. My organisation isn't the best!
But since I started my one-man-one-guitar approach, I seem to get more done. What song are you thinking of doing?

Thanks for making it downloadable! Much appreciated.
Are you up for the tribute album idea?

Yeah I'd definitely be up for it. What ideas have been knocked around about it?

I think to pay homage to Steve and his site the idea was born, I'd just have to do 'Bar Italia'!

Evening all. Just letting you know I've updated my cover of 'Cuckoo Song'. It's now get a nice echo on it and more bass. Basically it just sounds better.

Thanks!

Kewlio! You improved on it quite a bit, james! For a minute there I thought you were going to have it swimming in 'Hall' reverb to make it sound like the original flux version!

Sounds like a Bright Eyes track now! Lovely indeed!

Oh I know I am too late but hey I want to hear this! What's wrong with your myspace James?

I agree on the part being sick of not having a clean version of this extremely beautiful song. I had the exact thought like you, that "why don't I make one myself", but unfortunately I'm just not that talented. I just simply can't sing like I mean it.

Oh, if that 26-second sample is cut from exactly the demo version ... I do not understand why everyone is still abandoned.

I sing very well. I have a slightly different voice, but I'm working on it. Oh yes, in our city nobody knows about Pulp, so there are problems.

It's a good job I check back here every now and then:) I now go under the name Fraktured Boy. I'll upload the song onto my Myspace so you can have a listen to my version of Cuckoo Song:

http://www.myspace.com/frakturedboy

It should be on the music player:)

Incidentally is there still no chance that anyone has the Pulp version? God I've been after this for 10 years now:(:(:(

Isn't it the only version available? Then presumably James has already heard it because it's the only way for him to know that song. I suppose what James and I have been talking about is the demo version of the song which is clean enough, instead of all the coughs and things. Thanks to FRLKEANERUSSIA I have heard 26 seconds of it to have something to dream of. If it is absolutely unavailable then where was that sample cut from?

And James, thank you for re-uploading and linking me. But this shite network from my college has blocked myspace so I will check it later.

And now I'm home, checking your site, James, but Cuckoo's Song doesn't appear in the player. I'm listening to some of your music, and it sounds cool. Added you as friends! Please fix some time, I want Cuckoo.

I've gone and fixed it. Cuckoo is now up there to listen to. I hadn't made it "public". Stupid, bloody, crap-designed MySpace.

So there's a 20-odd second sample of the original floating about is there? I'd like to hear that...I just wish someone out there would provide us with the full thing.

P.S. I had heard the live version, thanks:)

I am sure that this is the second half of the second chorus.

So where did that small snippet come from? This is like the holy grail of music - yes, MUSIC - for me. If I can get hold of this song then I can die a happy, happy man. But after 10 years no one has been able to dig it up:(

I have a feeling that the demo version had some adjustments to the flux one. Certainly, no matter how the adjustments were, I would die for the whole of the demo.

And I enjoy your cover too, James :) If only it could sound a little bit more emotional :)

it sounds weird, gotta say im a little disappointed. Are you sure its not just the flux version without the crowd behind ? Sounds really close although i gotta say i havent heard that version in a long time.

by the way, the holy grail of music was We Can Dance Again biggrin

It was certainly not the flux version; some notes were adjusted as well as the background music was totally different. Actually, I do prefer the flux. However you must agree that the coughs and things are great minuses.

I used to wish for a clean version of We Can Dance Again after hearing the 1994 royal live one, but hey that wish was granted. You know something, when it wasn't, I had to listen to Chavette's cover just for a clean one.

Uh that version by Chevette was awful - however what gets me was how were they able to cover a song that was never released at the time, with it only being played live once?

Well, it was the same record label, they probably had access to the sheet music and even the demo.

Or they had access to it through the - whatever you call it in england - company that register music, rights to it and stuff.

Danny Hunt (from Chevette, later with Venini) was a mate of the band, so they probably got the lyrics / possibly the demo through that route.
