Harland Miller who wrote the book that Jarvis wanted to make into a film, is coming out with a new book this April. International Lonely Guy is the title and from what I understand, Jarvis also write poems in the book.

I read Slow Down... and thought it was rubbish... The man can't write about sex for a start (unlike Jarvis). There was no plot to speak of. Don't know why Javis thought it would make a good film (probably just wanted to do afavour for another one of his artynorthernerincamden mates). Hope it's better than the first effort.

I read the Harland Miller book at Christmas, quite liked it actually. I can see why Jarvis was keen, it's a story about people doing bugger-all in a Northern city in the early '80s. Quite amusing though.

I read "Slow Down Arthur..." when it first came out, and I thought it was alright. I did have some difficulty with Harland's liberal use of the english language though. It's not just that the dialogue was written phonetically to reflect "northerness" but a lot of the prose seemed somewhat incomprehensible to me.  I felt he was trying too hard to be Joyce-ian or something.

He also wrote the linear notes for Hits, and you just have to read that to see what I'm talking about. He is sometimes guilty of putting style before substance.

But like I said, the book was alright.
