I feel a bit embarrassed I've never heard of this film, but The Quietus have published a feature comparing it to Different Class. See here...

That's been popping up on my Facebook feed these past few days as well. Never heard of it before but it seems like an interesting watch filmed, as it was, during one of the transitional eras for the city.

Definitely a formative experience for me, and one of the key influences* on my as yet unpublished Sheffield novel.

Possibly the most Pulp moment comes when Glen is introduced before his karaoke performance. "What do you do?" asks the compère. "I'm a thief," says Glen.

*Another one is A Very British Brothel.

If you're interested in this kind of thing then this BBC documentary from 1974 is worth a watch for a feel of when Jarvis was 11. I do think that the opening title card is very Pulp.
