Is Candida not travelling? I noticed on Liam Rippon's Insta that Candida wished him a happy trip. Maybe just being nice!

Anyway, here's to more new song debuts...

The results are in from the first night...www.setlist.fm/setlist/pulp/2025/makuhari-messe-kokusai-tenjijou-hall-7-8-chiba-japan-73557645.html

More of a shortened/festival set. The only real shake-up is the welcome change of OU in for the Weeds-Combo which I hope is permanent.

The performances of OU in America a few months ago looked such fun on Youtube. It's an instantly catchy-song with a great momentum throughout and a classic build and rise to the end.
To be honest, it's a travesty that it was dropped as a live mainstay after 1994.

Hopefully they're keeping their powder dry re new songs/old surprises for their own gig in Osaka.

PulpWiki page up, additions/corrections welcome (no info on the line-up so just copied and pasted from September):

pulpwiki.net/Pulp/Live4January2025RockinOnSonicJP

Mis-Shapes cut for time. Hopefully Jarvis can be convinced to shake up the setlist for the summer shows. The current setlist will be two years old by that point so, whilst we're all grateful the band are still playing, it would be nice to mix things up.

IF we are getting a new album, I can't see the setlist getting jigged around too much. They would have to rehearse songs that they haven't played in years etc - along with the writing and working of new songs. I think it would just be too much for them.

That's awfully depressing.

But on the flipside, we know there's stuff they've rehearsed but haven't even played. And they might have done more since 2023...

Nowt else new or too surprising. All the Weeds returned.

The more I hear it, the more I'm convinced that Got To Have Love is going to be their biggest hit since Disco 2000. It's a cracking statement comeback single.

I'd love to hear it properly recorded though, as the bass on it always tops out in the live version.

Got To Have Love is strong and the backing vox of the demo always hinted as much. I think that choir-sample needs to be higher in the mix for the chorus as Jarv's vocal-strain doesn't do the hook justice.
I'm not sure about the mid-section, leading up to where he spells-out L.O.V.E. It goes on a bit and as Weej once opined in his Pulp songblog, you can only get away with doing that spelling-out-words thing once in your career, right?!
I also feel that with so many musicians on-stage (7?), maybe there should be more harmonies or counter-melodies in the instrumental/spoken Jarvis sections rather than everyone just playing to the same rhythm.
Does he make an in-joke in that section?! "You sit on your arse for 25 years...making an album"?! Couldn't quite catch all the words.

Similarly in Farmer's Market, the latter spoken-part does drag a bit with the band just repeating the same music while Jarvis gushes about meeting someone (Kim, I hope!).
Overdubs on the studio versions of both these songs during these long sections would be welcome - even if it's just some production atmospherics and not musical bits as such.
Also sounds like there's been some lyrical alterations to the spoken-word/mid-part of Farmer's Market.

Soz, don't mean to be a miserable fvcker, just want them to make their bestest album.

It's a lovely sentiment, but realistically there's no way on Earth that Pulp are going to have a Top 10 hit in 2025. A Top 10 album? Absolutely possible, albums are a whole different kettle of fish - see the big successes of Blur, Shed Seven, Suede etc in recent years -  but a massive hit in the singles chart?  As lovely as it would be, nope.

No but the album will probably go straight in at number 1 (and maybe straight outno).

Yeah, I appreciate the singles chart effectively doesn't exist anymore.  I was thinking more how it might become an unofficial song of the summer.  A bit like how Wet Dream by Wet Leg was in 2021.  That kind of a deal.

I find that one a bit boring tbh.  Wet Dream was the bigger selling one two (went Gold/400,000 sales, compared to Chaise Longue Silver/200,000 sales)

It's been a while since Background Noise was played. Hope it hasn't fallen off the radar.

If it is, then that's pretty much album confirmation, isn't it?

I hope it isn't over until then though. Hope we get some surprise UK indoors shows...

My feelings says that we're getting a big announcement in February... maybe music maybe tour (there's no single evidence confirming this theory)
